Only that the keyboard on the UX is crazy unusable. I went to a store determinded to by one - until I tried typing a a bit on it. I hope the Oqo v.2 is better, I think I am going to test that one instead.

But my favourite is still the old Sony Picturebook, which unfortunately is not available with modern stuff inside. I still have my Picturebook with transmeta 667MHz cpu working :0

Cool, I just thought of writing more or less the same. I bought my Walkman back in the late 80's I think, and still have it. Used it daily (or should I say nightly) for about three years, bringing out the newspapers in my neighbourhood. Used it during training (bicyckling) and else when I wanted som carry around sound. And I remember the same argument about going deaf.

I can still hear loud and clear, despite all the arguments. And I think I have louder sound in my old Sony Megabass Walkman than in my new mp3-player.

For that matter, linux was the end of BSD, or perhaps we should say OpenBSD was the end of NetBSD. Take your pick of history, BSD is alive in well despite what some anonymous cowards would have you believe.

That is simply wrong, isn't it? As far as I know, linux started out completely unrelated to BSD... But the rest of the comment is right. And a split in X may be just a good thing anyway. It's the only part you can't get rid of, but you still don't want.

  4. Re:Removable... Sure... on Toshiba's iPod Competitor · · Score: 1

Sure, it must be removable. Just think about it, using your favourite p2p tools, you can easily fill up more than 5GBs. What a bout one disk with Jazz, one with Rock, another with classics and so on - such that you may swap in and out depending on your mood...

There may even be other gadgets supporting the disk out there, like laptops - then it is really nice with removeable disk.

So, definitly, this looks like a great feature to me.

I don't know your childrens, but I think we learn kids the internals of OSs and computers anyway - But even to get them started, of coarse Open Source stuff is the best path. We just have to polish stuff a bit - it is still easier for my 4 year old kid to use windows when she want to watch a DVD than doing the same thing with Linux. Thats mostly a matter of integration of coarse...

Sorry, you don't get the point about Debian distributions. Indeed, the versions of the individual applications in the stable release are usually lagging a whole lot, but then they also are stable. Bugs are also backported from newer versions if possible, AFAIK, so that is usually not an issue. You have to define your needs and choose a distribution thereafter.
For a lot of needs, Debian stable could be the right way to go, especially for servers. Just my .5NOK

and my system is updated to the latest version of Debian.
There's a program called "cron" that you might want to use to automate this.

It's not that easy, there might be some configuration questions you need to answer. So an unattended upgrade could be bad!
  8. Re:In related news... on A Common (Internet-Based) Language? · · Score: 1

I just must agree with this as a norwegian. We may say that English is a universal language when you want to reach a international audience. But it stops there. For instance, we use our own language also on the internet, when we know the audience is people speaking norwegian. Hence, there is a hole lot of webpages around written in my native tounge.
So, will there in the future be one language all a round, which is also used in daily life. I don't think so, because people are so clever that they could speak more than one language, if they want. This means that you may have to learn another language to recive the information you want, say from the internet. But this is no reason to forget your native language. Man use to identify himself and his culture with his language a.o. I think it will stay like this, as long as there are more than one culture on this earth...

  9. Why rip? on DVD Hack Delays DVD Audio · · Score: 1
Why in the world should anyone be interessted in ripping a DVD. Of course, you want to be able to play it in Linux, but not rip, which means saving it to disk. Just 10 DVD's will easily kill all your storaga.

Someone gotta change their mind in this business.
