So you can't buy 2.4 GHz cordless phones in France either? I'm going out to buy one today. As for raditation against the 'nads...the antennia are in the lid of the laptop.
As for the poster that suggested the UN run the whole broadcast band. Thats something that is way outside of the UN charter.
After watching the interviews with Teller in the Atomic Bomb Movie and reading about him in Dark Sun...I really got the impression that he was quite mad.
I never thought of him as Dr. Stranglove...but now I will always think of him like that.
No...but it is funny that people in California keep building houses where they know there are mud slides and wild fires. Now Tornados can spawn about anywhere...I was in a couple when I lived in Pierre South Dakota and on the Reservation in South Dakota. Tornados are pretty random, they can be on the water, in Salt Lake City or Miami, or trailer row in Bufu OK.
But at what point do people just flat start ignoring history and build in areas that are just plain stupid? It's not just Florida. I saw on the news that 90 percent of the homes damaged by floods in the south eastern US damage the homes of the same people year after year after year, and the Federal Flood Insurance is finally going to force people to move.
I'm sorry...but I think it is kind of funny for millions of people to live on a sand bar that gets hit over and over again by hurricanes and the Federal Governemnt keeps giving them money to rebuild there.
No it's not funny when people die from a hurricane...but it is funny that people will move back and wait for another one. And for people that will ignore an evacuation notice and ride a 150 MpH hurricane out on a boat...two words for you. Natural Selection.
Man I hope KSC doesn't get damaged...all four Space Shuttles are there.
I have an older "Beige" G3 and they will upgrade just fine.
Now for all you Apple bashers out there I offer this, a few monthes ago Apple released a new version of AppleShare IP that fixed a nasty little memory leak. Well when ASIP 6.2 first came out they told everyone you had to pay to upgrade. Basicly it was like this ROM issue...everyone flamed and flamed and flamed. That was on Monday...thursday night they changed things around and released it for free because of public pressure.
Now the ROM issue that blocks the G4 isn't in the physical ROM...it's in Firmware that can be upgraded. I think Apple will change issue an update that fixes the problem.
But even if they do people will still find reason to flame em.
When...and if these things take off want to learn how to update em...they have to have an OS or Firmware somewhere right? So someone is going to have to learn how to do the updates...thats what I want to do for a living.
What are the chances that MS "allowed" this hole to exsist so they could spread FUD about *NIX.
"This just shows the world that a free OS built by a bunch of hackers in thier bedrooms can't compete with an Industry Supported OS like Windows 2000."
How long till something like that comes out of Redmond?
Why would you put Linus's notes in the Smithsonian? I thought Linux was developed at the University of Helsinki.
As far as I remember the American History Museum is about American History. Sure there is a V2 in the Air/Space Museum but it's one we captured in WW2.
I thought that the next generation of Apple Motherboards, the ones in the Sawtooth G3/G4 towers didn't have physical ROM on the board. That it was going to be more of the ROM-in-RAM like the iMac has.
I also read something on Friday...MacOSRumors or MacWeek or somewhere that IBM got one of these monsters to boot from 8.1 a while back.
I use the "Enterprise" Apple Extended Keyboards...the BIG ones.
And the first time I ever used the "pause" key...out there at F15 is when I got Railroad Tycoon II...and then I tried to play it on an iMac and well it only has 12 F keys...try pausing your game then.
The "print screen" key out at F13 sure doesn't seem to do anything under OS 8.6. I'm sure we could live without that.
I suggest you look at the Chevy/GMC and Ford fullsize trunks again.
There is very little similarity in the designs. In fact the Chevy/GMC truck has changed the least in the last two revs. The overall exterior shape of the Chevy/GMC is very much like it was in the 1986 rev.
The Ford 150 truck went to a more rounded hood with a "hourglass waist" step behind the cab and no "bulbous fenders".
Actually the Ford Crewcab has always been a larger trunk than the Dodge Ram. The Ram does have a larger engine than the Ford/Chevy.
The only real rip-off in the full-size trunk industry was Ford/Dodge's copying of the Chevy/GMC "third door".
This got alot of coverage yesterday on the Macintosh sites.
MacOsRumors talked about it and I am going to quote them.
"1. This problem has so far been only reproduced when the 32+ CGI processes are spawned by a benchmarking CGI -- this problem may or may not actually affect other types of CGIs. It is very possible that it does not. Thus, the problem can be avoided simply by removing the Apache Benchmark CGI from the cgi-bin directory or setting its permissions to prevent it from running ("chmod 500 filename.cgi" should be sufficient).
2. The problem is not fundamental to OS X, according to Apple sources. Although the specific issue has not yet been determined, it appears to be related to Apache's use of system resources (although the issue itself is apparently in the kernel) and is not likely to affect OS X under any other conditions. A patch is in development and should be available very soon."
Since when does a bug make something "worthless", oh when it's made by Apple.
Isn't THX a standard for the hardware, software, ease of use and sound quality...not just another sound system? I thought one of the requirements of a THX reciver is that it can run multiple sets of sound system. Like a home theatre or the TV and stereo in the bedroom. Of course I have no THX rated hardware so all of my knowledge is from reading magazines. Oh...DIVX needs to die a quick and silent death.
True. But if we bring in Matt, shall we bring in American Politics Journal, Foxnews or Salon Magazine? How about a slashbox to Lindatripp.com? I thought/. was News For Nerds...not a Portal Site that has links to other portal sites. Since the Impeachment ended nine days out of ten all Drudge has had are links to other news stories.

You don't think SysAdmins in public education arn't looking?
Well we are. We focus on the High Schools and to a lesser extent on the Middle Schools.
After watching the interviews with Teller in the Atomic Bomb Movie and reading about him in Dark Sun...I really got the impression that he was quite mad.
I never thought of him as Dr. Stranglove...but now I will always think of him like that.
Hey what is Gil Amelio doing these days? Maybe SGI should bring him on and then get rid of him...it worked wonders for Apple.
Then he can write...500 days on the Firing Line part 2...my time at SGI
Question: Who will buy SGI?
- Microsoft
- Sun
- AOL
- Apple
- Compaq
- Rob Sux/This Poll Sux

I'll throw this one out.

If they have caught the "we don't comment on products that haven't been announced" bug from Apple...I'd say it could be likley.
At least thats what it says at the Apollo 204 pad.

You set the Energy Saver to turn the monitor off after ten minutes...the computer keeps going. You need the screen back and you shake the mouse.
It's what I do on my G3 All-In-One running YD.

I know that Motorola/IBM PowerPCs are pretty limited...and are not IA-32 chips.
But G3s are nice chips and overclock well.
If they get the same group that puts the Macintosh 4.5 browser togeather, it will be a nice broswer.
I'm really getting sick of these crappy browsers from Netscape that are as stable as a one-legged chair.
You need to get the teachers and administrators to understand what Linux is first.
Then explain why it is better than Windows. Now the average teacher/administrator knows less about computers than my iguana.
Works fine on my 233MHz G3.

Turned mine in middle of November.
