When I got US West ASDL they told me "We Support iMacs, that's what you have?" I said "no, but I'm sure it'll work. "They transfered me to someone that knew something and all they wanted to know is did I have Open Transport and a newish OS (8.5 beta in my case). The kit even had one of thos funky AAUI-15 Adapters for Ethernet.
I run all Power Macs...I do have a copy that came with Connectix Virtual PC. It came free with my G3 so if I returned it and got money back that would be like stealing from Apple/Connectix. Connectix makes good software.
Consider what has happened recently in India and then tell me why this is the fault of "bad software from the United States."
1. India elected a new nationalist government. 2. India detonated...six nuclear devices...that was the number right? 3. The United States decided it was time to stop exporting software and equipment to India and Pakistan that would help thier nuclear programs.
So why does this action by India point the the decline of American software. If India had done this to Israel or Germany it would not have recieved the negative comments about those countries.
If I put my bread in the toaster the night before it will be all dried out by the time I get up to eat it. Or what happens if I want Captain Crunch? Then I stick dried out bread in the trash.
I don't care if Microsft, Sun, SGI, Apple or General Electric make it. I still think it is a stupid idea.
The new G3 Power Macs will go to the 400 Mbit/sec. And they don't require extra hardware. For some of those thumpin' throughput SCSI cards don't you need two of the cards? Are they hot-plugable? I don't think so. Do they support 63 devices? I don't think so.
Now I think I remeber seeing them share a camcorder with two computers and a hard disk with two computers at MacWorld...I know you can't do that with SCSI.
How long were CD-Rs out before they became popular? Or Minidisk? Or 3.5" floppies? Or mice for that matter.
Just because it has been out for a while does not make it vaporware. It takes a while for somethings to take off...and others like DVD and DSS dishes take off like a rocket.
Firewire is going to be the next standard connection for home theater too.
I started out working on a wheat farm, the family business...no thank you.
I went to the city (Portland Oregon) and learned computers. Now I have a kickin job. I work when I want, I am almost unreplacible and I have two Power Mac G3s sitting on my desk and Xeon powered Compaqs to play with.
The jobs are out there...at least in the United States. Workers make more than ever. Sure the cost of living is high and so are taxes...it doesn't bother me.
I am far more empowered than my Mother or Grandfather ever was. I was born middle class and I still am middle class. I have lost nothing.
Subject says it all.

Took me 20 minutes to hook it all up myself.

Shouldn't we point Hubble at Alpha Centari/Beta Centari/Proxima Centari and see if there are any decent looking planets there?
Sony, Philips, IBM, and Texas Instruments have licenced Firewire from Apple for a one-time flat fee.
Dolby noise reduction is licensed, so why can't Apple license Firewire?

Someone had one of those damned plastic demons in my office over the Holidays. They are more annoying than Microsoft Bob.
I bet some supervisor got pissed at a Furby and wrote it up as a security risk.

I didn't see Dark City until it came out on DVD. So the best Theatre Movie of 1998 was Private Ryan.
Dark City gets the Video Pick of the Year.
B5 is heads and tails about Buffy. Not so sure about that strange B5 movie that was on TNT though...
Oh and Metallica Garage Inc...oh yeah. I played "Am I Evil" and "Blitzkrieg" all day on Christmas.

It was in a degrading orbit and was forced down so that big film vault wouldn't kill someone.
It came down years after NASA was done with it.
Yes the Salyut were temporary things...so was Skylab. And someday people will say that Mir was a "temporary thing".
Mir is not the first manned space station.
Look at Salyut or Skylab.
Both of them were up and running a decade before Mir.
