I think the cause of this "junkweb" is that the lowest common denominators now have the ability to create and post content to the internet. Whereas in the past you had to at least be intelligent enough to create your own website.
"no lost stuff, no hangs, no delays, no network-reachability issues or timeouts, no ads, no jscript, no worries about blocking and maintenance" which describes my gmail experience. With the added bonus I can access it anywhere.
With IMAP the parent probably has the option of web access.
A few years ago I was on a cruse ship and using a mail client saved me heaps on Satellite internet charges. About 30 seconds to sync my email, then offline for the next hour or so while I read and reply to people. Another 30 seconds of syncing, done.
I did feel sorry for the poor sods using webmail. I saw some of the smarter ones saving pages as html docs for offline reading. They would then type their reply offline and later copy/paste it into the email they where replying to. The less smart users just copped huge usage charges.
Believe it or not disconecting people, does not solve the problem, they buy a new computer take it to geek squad who nukes and paves it and sells them a rediculously overpriced unreliable antivirus.
Actually that scenario does solve the problem. Infected machines need to be formatted and reinstalled.
Not to mention that LastPass can also use multi-factor authentication. While multi-factor doesn't stop offline attacks against the local cache, it will stop a compromised master password from retrieving data from lastpass servers.
Just block the IMEI number. It's been a legal requirement in Australia for decades.

Lack of purchase doesn't automatically mean people are pirating it. In the end a product is only worth what someone will willing to pay for it.
I use auto fill settings in Lastpass, essentially no more sign up forms.
Or respect the privacy of their users.
Exactly, single sign-on hasn't arrived because it's simply a bad idea.
That's generally the attitude of the copyright/pro-drm groups in general. Upset that people don't want to buy their crap.
When consumer choice threatens your business you're doing it wrong.
Write apps that people WANT to pay for.
So many apps in the market place are just crap, even the paid ones.
Try: http://www.lemonparty.org/ is a lot safer to view at work.
Go over any random next and you'll be able to construct any sentence you wish.
Except it's a HEX not an actual word. "Big Boobs" doesn't actually appear at all, just a case of people seeing what they want to see.
It knows when you are sleeping,
It knows when you're awake,
It knows if you've been bad or good,
so be good for goodness sake!
Next Christmas I'm going to hang signs like that underneath the CCTV cameras in London.
So you're incapable of distinguishing the difference between Private, and Public information?

I agree, nothing beats a good local mail client.

Actually it was you who brought up Google and Yahoo. I conclude my initial reply to you may have been incorrect.
Refuting an irrelevant comment about Gmail and Yahoo doesn't mean you have refuted my original comment about Facebook data mining..
No, they don't. They run it through a realtime keyword analysis. No data is mined.
Good for them, however they aren't Facebook.
Not sure about Yahoo but Gmail data mines the contents of the email for advertising services.
Don't use the service if you don't like the terms.
What possible expectation of privacy do you have on Facebook? It's a data mining company, why would you hold any 'Private' conversation there?
I believe the Police also used the Police Boxes to call HQ for updates as they didn't have portable radios back then.
Ok, that would be a big zero.
Linux is mostly confined to fringe nerd groups. With Apple confined to artists, musicians and the unemployed.
Apple still hasn't innovated changeable batteries.
Clearly you're not a scientist, otherwise you'd know how stupid you sound.
