There were stories detailing the moderation system there recently, and a lot of this "moderation" is taking place in other countries. This has led to a lot of cultural confusion.
I like cosplay girls (sue me) and this has been a constant problem with some of these girls. They post a bikini picture or something a bit too sexy, someone (usually attributed to the theoretical "jealous bitch"), and then a moderator somewhere throws it out saying it's pornographic.
I can easily see the same thing happening for "criminal activity," though you would hope that wouldn't survive the escalation process. But how far does the outsourcing go???
We are living in a culture where the entire political "debate" is revolving around the fallacy of false choices. If we were having a healthy debate both sides would be admitting that there are at least some areas where it is appropriate for government to be a healthy size and spend resources. Emergency management, in my humble opinion and setting all theories about FEMA set aside, is one of those areas.
It shouldn't be outsourced because you can't truly rely on a profit-based agency in a true emergency. The goal of the modern corporation is selfish and doesn't care if anyone else survives the emergency or not.
Well.. it's a very poorly worded headline. The Analysis is quite clearheaded. Researchers have seen sprites in other atmospheres indicating that lightning is occurring. Since our current theories of the creation of life believe lightning played a part in the formation of organic matter then it's another indication that some of the correct conditions for the creation of life exist on other planets. No conclusive evidence of anything... just more evidence backing up what we currently believe to be true.
All the good parts of the Daily Show and spinoffs are available legally on the 'net anyway. So this wouldn't be a loss for me...
but still I always hope that this sort of idiocy causes drops en masse. I wouldn't bet any money on that, however... it's just a hope that "consumers" might actually kick a corporation in the ass for being jackasses for once.
Oh, and as usual, we are forgetting that a Corporation is a creation of the state; if the state is so inclined it can take away its charter and make it illegal to do business in this country. Sure they just morph and reincorporate, but that brand name would be lost forever.
If the CEO is important enough to get millions of dollars, then he is important enough to jail, though I would say it would be reserved for more grevious crimes.
Rick Scott, the idiot governor of Flordia, made himself rich off what was then the biggest medicare scam in history. He is a great example of someone who should of gotten personal jail time.
Oh before that. In 92-93 in college I had to deal with other idiot students saying stuff like "The Mac is not a computer" and how it was junk from the past. It's been dying for 20 years now.
It's garbage. Even the marketshare argument is stupid. Wouldn't you love to have 5% of a trillion dollar market? Dumb arguments all around.
Having said that, this move does make it look like Apple are moving towards the "corporate weenie" camp and that the death of Jobs removed one of the obstacles in the way of it.
It's already fun in tech as long as you're not a microsoft-centric person.
Quite frankly the farther I get from Microsoft-groupthink-land the better I feel. Since I'm a gamer there is nothing I can't do on my Ubuntu laptop that I can't do on any other O.S., plus I don't waste gbs on a huge Office install.
No it's not. Facebook isn't a telecommunications system. There is no legal expectation of privacy.
You will never get the Feds to call the Internet a common carrier like your telephone system. Never in a million years. They're power mad now.

They aren't. We've managed to elect the biggest group of idiots to power in world history.
And it isn't just the Republicans either... so don't go there. The only people that can get on the ballot for any race are inept empty suits.
It will save plenty of money until the system breaks down and the corps. involved don't give a shit that you're down.
They you'll spend all the saved money and more converting the infrastructure back to what is should of been in the first place.
The suits will look great in the short term and by the time the thing blows up they'll be long gone.

Not only rulers, but corrupt, entitled rulers demanding huge amounts of money for political favors.

Every time the corporate anarchists have to come out to play.

This is true... however there is virtualbox.
since I'm *not a gamer. God I need to learn to proofreed.

They don't support Plan 9? What BS.
While I agree with this, you have to be aware that to the previous administration, the Constitution was just a "goddamned piece of paper."
This isn't limited to one party.
More people get killed by lightning in a couple of months than from terrorism in the last few years.
Where is the war on lightning?
Oh... you can't funnel money to corporate buddies if you have a war on lightning.
It's coming soon to the U.S. Don't think they want this sort of thing to happen to Texas schoolbooks.
About $5000... ba da bum bum...
Who cares that you don't care??
pfft. I still use an original Newton.
See the "Cool Bikes" episode... he thinks he's the judge of Galactic Cool Court...
