    Every country is different.
If India were to follow the US standards it would be too expensive for them to operate. If the US follows India's standards, we may be missing quality, or the consumer protections that we demand.

  3. In Business it is more complex then that.
To survive in the market you need to get your product out before the competition and/or you need more products. Failing to survive as a business is worse then the expense of a security glitch.

It is a chicken and the egg problem. We need a security commitment from the whole industry vs just one brave little company who would go out of business rather quickly. It isn’t an issue of bad programmers or management not wanting to give a quality product, but the restrictions on trying to make something good enough before someone else beats you to it.

It isn’t always with companies. Programmers working for costcenters in a different industry are pressured to get the advantage of the program out of development fast so the cost savings of the company can be realized. Or other cases esptwith not for profit is rapidly changing government rules (bipartisan) which are setup so you are always on the verge of being non compliance and not receiving the funding for the next quarter. So faced with being closed down or leaving a security flaw which you hope you can manage.

An outside group who can help maintain security may be able to help some issues. But unless customers are willing to wait for the product to be done right va fast. It isn’t going to happen.

  7. Not even Apple fanboys will go that far.
They will normally tout how a long time missing feature once implemented is so superior to the other implementations (The swipe features in iOS 11 is so much more innovative then WebOS a decade ago).
If the feature isn't in the device, they will defend why they don't need such a feature. (We don't need a fast charger as part of our device, as most people will just charge it overnight)

Any fanboys for any technology seem to be equally as bad. But right now Apple is in the #1 spot so there is some added smugness.

  8. I am not sure if you have worked in IT or not. But unfortunately my experience is if I share too much info, it creates a panic in the non-technical user who gets angry because they think they are so smart, but something goes on beyond their understanding.

The battery in your device gets worse every day, they are a lot of factors that can affect the rate of decay. Too much info to the user, especially ones who do not really understand what is going on, will see after a month of usage their battery isn't at 100% there can be a rush to get it fix, having staff trying to explain the numbers are not in the warranty range, thus opening to seem like they are performing bad customer service.

I would rate this on bad judgement in Apples part, not part of some evil plan. Just because there are areas where giving too much info causes in general more problems then less.

Being that an old phone, will have updated apps made for new phones it is kinda expected to run slower anyways, and the speed probably wasn't that notable to most people. Apple was probably trying to extend the usage life of the device vs actively trying to get people to upgrade.

Chrome has its sandbox. Sure it may be sending data to google for adds, but at least I can go to a site and not worry about backdoor apps installed on my computer.

Edge may have fixed this, but we have had such a bad experience with IE and IE 6 being around for much too long (Like Netscape 4) it has became a joke to use compared to Chrome which better supports HTML5 and has good security.

For the most part as a rule of thumb, in order to not give a summary on what the product does...
    1. It will need to be 1st, 2nt, or 3rd most popular product in its class. (Windows, OS X, Linux) or (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime) or (Android, iOS, Windows (10 years ago we could had used WebOS or PalmOS))
    2. Explain what the product does if it belongs to a class that isn't available to consumers even if it the top used product.
    3. If Slashdot had articles which had explained it within the last 3 days, it is fine to use the name without explanation, otherwise rehash it.
    4. Assume a High School level of education and experience. Not to dumb it down, but after that point adults separate and specialize in things, so you can be talking about things that others have paid no attention too.
    5. Explain the product if the Acronym is similar or the same as a different products Acronym or Name. Eg. If there is a story about the Dodge Ram truck line, While people in the industry may just call it a Ram, on Slashdot it would be confused about RAM (Random Access Memory). So if the article covers how the Ram has been increasing in prices, we are thinking back to the day where RAM was expensive due to illegal actions from Memory maker Samsung.

And the people who want this feature returned are such a small group that they cannot sell enough to keep the business going.
