The problem is the scientists are trying to show a rational answer to a gut response. If the science hasn't swayed the deniers already then nothing probably will... However the trick is to influence their kids. While I am skeptical about most news coverage of science, because it is often over sensationalized, simplified, taken out of context, and stated as fact while it is mostly an untested hypothesis. We need science and rational thought to fill every little gap that the deniers put in their argument.
If this study shows to be strong, then that can fill in one of the deniers "questions" If global warming is caused by humans how come we didn't have it back during the industrial revolution. As most deniers are going that Global Warming is because earth is just going threw a natural warming period as it finishes it last Ice Age. Now if we can teach there kids the fact while their minds are open to new ideas even if we can convert each generation 10% over to stop being a denier, then we can work for progress.
However Science Reporting is so piss poor it makes it easy for these groups to say how science is wrong. Also sometimes we want to watch a Nature/Science show without the guilt.
I think Microsoft will first need to improve its Exchange Calendars first to allow better booking ability. I get way too many emails asking about my availability.
The wireless companies are really dropping the ball. Perhaps they are still trying to regain some of their wired business? But if we can get quality unlimited and unmetered speed at a good price. We would drop our cable isp for the more convenient wireless.
Mozilla has been offering free software. Changing its look and feel could be disastrous because it can give the impression that it is something other than what we knew and loved for decades.
Google only tweaked its font a bit. Microsoft just took the curves out of its logo. Apple had removed the colors.
Mostly all the changes to the branding for these companies were a simplified version what they had. They didn't get Artistic and fancy. Just flat and dull, but reminiscent of the old logo.
That was more apt to Microsoft with Internet Explorer.
Back in the olden days over 20 years ago. Netscape was the prominent web browser. Back at the time The Applications installed on Windows were just baby versions of the real Application, just enough to get you to the next step. So IE was installed in Windows 95 mostly for the purpose of downloading Netscape. While IE was fast and light, it lacked way too many features and didn't support too many of the "Modern" HTML Language. features. Making most page render poorly.
However Netscape was the big name in high tech, and was getting very popular, and started talking things that were scary to Microsoft. Such as the Web Browser being a cross platform application engine, and even replacing the Operating System for the Desktop as we know it towards a new form of thin client.
This scared MS into getting into the browser war. So it put a lot of time and effort to Get IE to being a competitive browser. Being the first to put in such features just as CSS and Advanced JavaScript, and ActiveX. So they would always have control of the platform and the applications. Then with Windows 98, they integrated the Web Browser into the OS. So IE is always more handy and available then the 3rd party Netscape, combined with the fact that it was comparable with Netscape.
The objective of the Browser war was to put MS in such a dominate position that it could control the Web Standards and keep it closed to MS only, where all future web development and application development would be for Microsoft only.
Now this seemed like it was working IE won the browser war by IE 6.0 on XP. However Microsoft stayed on IE 6 for way too long, people began to want more out of their browsers. First with a bunch of major security attacks on IE (especially with Active X nonsense) made PC users willing to switch to Firefox as a safer browser. Where they shortly learned that it supported newer HTML features, then later the WebKit based browsers Chrome, Safari... came out supporting these new features as well. So developers started coding to the standards more than to IE, and just hacking IE Compatibility so it works.
By the time IE 7 was released there were too many apps that still supported the broken browser and the outside pages used the newer browser. So it was the case IE for intranet and Others for Internet.
Then we got that sneaky iPhone and then Chrome (Both with WebKit based browsers) that supported the Web Standards better than The current version of IE on a high speed desktop....
So in short, If you are going to take that challenge make sure you meet your objective.
The government's job isn't to be heavy handed. It is to insure that we are all playing by the same sets of rules.
But this case isn't giving Uber Driver regulations, but just taking them to support the competitors who have a bunch of regulations.
Now as I see it, the Government should be doing either the following. Lessening the regulations on Taxi Companies so they can be more competitive. Or Giving Ride Sharing services regulations to insure safety and standards are met to match the Taxi Services.
I don't get this changes with Microsoft than Sony. They key advantage of Consoles isn't their power and performance but the fact that they are a common setup for the entire platform. Having different models with different features, will degrade this advantage and will end up with the same problem that we get with PCs. Games not optimized for the platforms, where they will not support the features that want to use, or will perform at a level that will cause a disadvantage to the other lesser box.
Security needs to be top priority. Lets face it a proper secured environment is slightly inconvenient to the end user. That includes management, However if security had been a priority than management will need to think in terms of security. This means they will need to know what all their employees need to access and how they access them. Be disciplined enough to take a long passwords, and prepared to fully explain why an exception is needed and what additional safety precautions will be build around it.
Proper IT security isn't the blame of any one part of the organization. That SQL injection that the developer put in, because it was designed for 2 internal users, and told by management it needed to be coded in under 1 week. Which then became more popular and put out on the entire web, from a different unit who never reviewed the code, because the CEO wanted that feature to the customers.
Most of the posts are just from people who really have no idea what systemd is for or even the old the init system. They will just use the defaults of what the distribution gave them. They are just it is different and other people say it is bad, so I will say it is bad too. Then you have the next group who knows what it is, and for the most part just doesn't want to learn systemd as they had made their reputation with the old system. So they will grasp straws on any particular feature or tradeoff and over inflate its flaws to make it seem like it is bad. Finally you have a small group who has a legitimate reason for not liking systemd however their particular use is rather limited in the grand scheme of usage.
In short the Taxi industry has a lot of say in the politics. Especially because the government decided to highly regulate the taxi industry.
I am sorry Taxi industry that your business model is failing. However it happens, trying to have the government come in and try to subsidize your business model isn't a solution.
That isn't using Linux as a desktop and you know that. That is imbedded systems. When People say Linux as a desktop they talk about GNU/Linux distribution. Where The Linux OS is directly used for a wide range of tasks. Not just running some directed piece of software.
Now the desktop market share is dying. However if we can get the Linux community to stop shooting themselves in the foot we may be able to transmission Linux/KDE development from Granda Approved Desktop to a useful Workstation environment where we can do real work more effectively. Because all the other major OS players are dropping the Desktop market towards low end devices with touch displays. We have a gap need for a real work OS
Edge is a couple years behind Chrome, Safari and Firefox in standards support. Why should I use edge on my powerful desktop where pages actually render better and sometimes faster on my phone! Microsoft Energy per page load metric is kinda useless being that Windows is mostly installed on a rather powerful PC, where such battery life metrics isn't that big of a deal.
You are thinking about 1st world metal roofs. Made to high standards for long life and corrosion resistant, and designed to look like other types of roofs, which can last decades longer than normal Shingles.
Then we have 3rd world metal roofs. You may see these in the States for our tool sheds, and other building that we use to protect inanimate objects from getting too wet in the rain. Low quality tin roof which is easy to setup still may be a bit more expensive than shingles. However the roof can be constructed without extra labor and it more effective even with a low quality install.
Mr(s) President we have good news and bad news. The good news is that we now have excellent radio communication. The bad news is the atmosphere will be be too thin to breath in about 20 days.
on a side note, we had figured out how to achieve ludicrous speed.
AMD has been behind Intel for about a decade now ever since Intel released their "Core" processors. Because back in the early to mid 00's AMD CPU finally were considered serious chips in the desktop environment, outpacing intel. Then it just fell further behind.
What Blackberry did then Apple was change how we think about phone and how we use them.
Both of these companies had created a new product that was considered popular and it changed how people used the device. First Blackberry using your phone for emails and texting was a big deal, with a full keyboard, as well keys placed in a way that was comfortable and practical for a lot of usage. This really had set the vision on how a smartphone looked for most of the 00's
Apple did the same thing with the iPhone, before the iPhone was released most models from people trying to guess how it looked like had it with a keyboard and looked like some sort of blackberry or an iPod. There were some rumors about a touch screen keyboard, but it wasn't taken seriously as Multi-touch technology was still new and considered to far out there for a consumer device. But apple showed that the touch keyboard was fine for most usage and having the additional screen real estate made it popular with other uses other than email and texting but with a full web browser made it a decent replacement for many peoples PC's So now during this decade all the smartphones are based on the iPhone model.
Nokia if they want to get noticed will need to do something to make people rethink how they use such a device. And kinda as shown from past history trying to appease the Slashdot crowd isn't the answer.
I expect Microsoft is trying to end its consumer business and focus more on B2B.
The Desktop PC isn't like the Desktop PC 10-20 years ago, where everyone needed a powerful desktop or laptop PC, to be considered part of the modern world. People are no longer willing to dump $2,000 for a new computer $600 - $700 now, and they want it thin and portable. Windows 10 uses mostly same specs that Vista recommended nearly a decade ago. 14+ years ago you had about 4 years good run on your PC before you needed to upgrade, after that time modern software just wouldn't work on it. Expansion cards wouldn't be compatible (Or you filled all the slots already), You have peaked how much RAM it could. Today you can still use an early 64bit Intel (Core 2) computer and run most of the stuff without that much regression in speed for most normal tasks.
Microsoft knows this, we have reached peak PC. There isn't much more growth in the PC Market. The Dells and Acers of the world can take solis in picking up the remaining market as the smaller guys slowly drop out. So the market isn't worth the hassle of consumer electronics. I also expect the XBox much like with Internet Explorer is a case where Microsoft won the war for market dominance without achieving a key objective. XBox owners are not necessarily big Windows Supporters or fans of all things Microsoft, much like how Apple was surrounded by the iPod halo effect. There wasn't an XBox halo (Other than the popular game) that made gamers who loved the XBox to be a big Microsoft fan. Buying Zunes, and going with PC's like Apple users did.
People are more scared to fly than to drive, or walk across the street.
The general fear is from a loss of control. The more control a person has the less they are afraid, because they can make decisions about their life. While if you intrust it into technology or someone else. The risk is that other person just will not care as much... Even though the numbers show that they are safer.
The same with many people with cloud computing. You hear about a major outage or problem once a year, however if they were administering their own local systems there would be problems happening a lot more often. However the scale of the problem will not make the news.
It doesn't but a lot of people don't realize that. A commercial airplane has autopilot however they need at least 1 pilot in the cockpit at all times. Autopilot doesn't replace the need of a pilot or a driver for the case of Tesla, but a tool that can deal with a lot of the monotony in driving.
