The debate if politicians should or shouldn't release tax records is an other debate. Right now they don't have to go that far, so by hacking and getting them and releasing them to the public is wrong.
OS X had an emulation mode that allowed both PowerPC and AMD64 programs to run.
It would seem to me that the Mighty Microsoft could had made a 16 bit emulation mode. I mean you just click on the program the OS already gives you an error. Just swap to a 16bit emulation mode. Yes easier said then done but not impossible.
Well that guy is an idiot. 1. If he does have the real document how will he prove it? I mean all Romney will need to say is Those are not my returns but a forgery made by some crazed radical liberal who is willing to lie and cheat to get his party to win. The main stream democrats will not use this information because it is not from legal means, If they do you can get the republican conspiracy theory linking the democrats to an event similar to Watergate.
2. Bit coins? Really? here is a guy who is publicly saying he committed a crime. FBI goes to the Bit Coin Servers with a warrant sends the million and tracks every Bit to see who finally receives it. Oh it goes to a PO Box... That is OK, you get an FBI agent waiting right next to that PO Box to arrest anyone who opens it.
3. How politically damaging is the truth anyways? It seems like the only people who really care will not vote for Romney anyways. He already admits that he pays less percentage in tax then most Americans. After months of digging you may find that he missed the rule here and there. But then the other side will find that he could have benefited from other areas where it balanced out.
There is the argument If Romney doesn't have anything to hide then why isn't he releasing his taxes. This is on the same vane the only people who should opposed to airport searches are people with something to hide. Why would he not want to release taxes? Because his taxes are long and complex, it isn't like our W2 done on the simple form. His opponents will distract his discussion of what he considers important issue and bogged down defending every line item in his taxes that he probably paid a team of accountants to do for him.
I personalty don't care for Romney and I don't think I will vote for him. But I am sick of this extremism partisan crap. Where we actually celebrate politically motivated criminals who brake the law that causes something to favor our political stance. These hackers are not hero's, they are petty criminals who can't stand a world where people have opposing views to them.
I hate to sound like a right wing hawk. But I think the importance in the second amendment is for citizens to one guns without being assumed that they are criminals because they own them.
Guns are dangerous (I personally do not own one because I don't need it nor do I want the responsibility of caring for it) They were dangerous when the second amendment was written. The founding fathers main concern was a government where citizens feel empowered. If they pass laws where the military can have guns but the citizens cannot, is a step to dis-empower the citizens. Now the central registry will indeed improve safety, at the expense of big brother saying oh you own a gun, when there is a crime that means you are on the list of suspects first.
The founding fathers figured the risk of gun violence (which existed back then too) was worth the safety net of keeping the government working towards the peoples self interest.
Windows flopped in making a 64bit OS that was good at 32bit binary compatible... Well to be a bit fair. the 32bit OS still runs some old 16bit programs while the 64bit OS will no longer run 16bit programs.
If you have that old program made for Windows 3.1 then you still need a 32bit OS.
i386 and AMD64 are architecture not the manufacturer.
Intel Architecture won the i386 so AMD back in the days kept compatibility for that design. AMD Architecture win the AMD64 (for 64bit vs the Intel Itainium) so future versions of Intel chips were compatible with the AMD64 architecture.
Last Year 10 year old computers were 32bit CPUs this years 10 year old computers are now 64bit.
Why? If you are writing software, you now know that we crossed a point where 64bit is more common then you will make your programs take more advantage of the 64bit systems.
Most people design software for last generations systems, because that is where we will have most people using it. Knowing that 64bit is becoming the majority that means we can take more advantage of the new system.
I actually choose Debian for servers, the biggest and fastest servers I can get my hand on. Debian isn't a desktop distribution, you got Ubuntu for that. But for a server you want a small and fast OS, You don't care much about X the server should be able to run by itself for weeks at a time and casual maintenance.
Also considering putting Linux on a newer system is often hit or miss in terms of compatibility.
But 64bit CPU's like the Intel Core 2 have been out past the 5 year mark. So when they re-purpose their old systems they are now 64 bit, and for those people who use Linux on new gear are getting new PC's and almost all of them are now 64bit.
I do find it funny how Windows and Linux, were not as graceful from the 32bit conversion to 64bit like Apple and Sun Microsystems. Both Apple and Sun released 64 bit and 32 bit OS's and got very little of this you cant run this 32bit app in your 64bit OS. Now Linux is a lot better then Windows but still, they just didn't quite think threw the process.
God help us, if we try to work hard. Some jobs just don't work well in a 8 hour shift. Or some people want to get the extra money for the extra time put in. Yes lets force them to work 8 hours a day, and get paid less. That will fix the economy, by paying people less.
We have lost the understanding that every choice we make has a trade-off. Every time someone comes with a new idea, someone else sees that there is a trade-off and fights tooth and nail to make sure we don't live in world that we suffer no tradeoffs.
We made a material that has a lot of properties like plastic but it is non-toxic and biodegradable... Oh No! It is made from genetically altered corn! We cant use it because Genetically altered stuff is always BAD!!!
We found that Natural Gas is can be more abundant in the US then coal and cleaner too... Oh No! If you process the stuff wrong and don't have proper over-site and regulation it can pollute our water supplies!!!
We just don't understand the idea of doing more good then harm. We just want technology to solve our problems, not offer us a new trade-off condition that we need to weigh and see if we can work to minimize the damage of the consequence.
You sound like a 70 something retired engineer. Who had technology advance beyond your comprehension. So you get old and grumpy and say how you job what that much harder then today, although you are no longer able to keep up with what today's engineers are doing.
The world we live in has limited resources. We are not going to live in a cooperative world.
Not everyone will be able to get everything. If they share then no one will really get it. So they need to show that they need it more then someone else.... Competition.
A cooperative world is one where all people are equal. They are not. They have different needs and desires.
You are taking a Mass Generalization quite personally.
When speaking in these Mass Generalization they are exceptions, A lot of them. It is not about me complaining about my life, me I think I have done rather well... But for many other smart people in my generation I find that they are still trying to get onto a solid ground floor. Public Education is Under Attack because we gave them more money and they wasted it. Labor Unions seem to get most active right when the company is about to fail. Causing the Company to go out of business because the unions just didn't want to make a concession. Social Security Everyone says we are not going to collect from it... So why are we paying it? Medicare The same thing.
Why are we not hitting the streets and demanding a better deal? Because we need to survive, our Old Bosses Who are well in Boomer ranges are still in it for them. If we push to hard we get fired or tricked into getting fired.
We don't want to be hippies. We want to be professionals.
The problem is we live in a competitive world. We have limited resources, the best of the best get picked up first, then Above average, then the below average and well below average get the short end of the stick.
If live gives you something that gives you a disadvantage, you will need to find a way to work around it, it will probably cost you. You may be the worlds best programmer but if you can't output as much as the second best programmer, you are at a disadvantage, and you may just need to work as an average programmer, where you World Best Skills, can compensate for you lack luster output, but it will bring you down.
It is not that you have to be a burden on society, it is just a fact that you know your abilities and skills in life.
I think the part time hours are the biggest stumbling block. Most of IT expects a 40 hour work week, part time is difficult to find. You can see if you can find a place that allows flex play were you can make up some time during the weekend.
I am under the impression that putting more money towards schools won't help that much. The problem lies in the fact that no one is really looking at how the money is really spent. For examples Computers seems like an expensive tool that doesn't give the best education per buck.
The Boomers was really a short sited generation. Their fight to stay young and relevant, created a situation where there was poor if any succession planning. Previous generations when they got into their 40's or 50's they realized they were getting old so they shifted their work from going further, to slowing down and teaching the next generation on how to take the helm. The Boomers were really the first youth culture, and they tried to keep it up as a generation of young go ambitious high energy people. Now their bodies are getting older and falling apart due to trying to keep the youth idea running. And not thinking towards the future generations but to themselves. So us Generation X and Y are fighting to take over, often overwhelming due to no training. We are making old mistakes over again, because we haven't been passed down any wisdom.
It isn't about stupid politics, or how big a business is or how much taxes they pay... It is a culture where Me First was used. Now they are still in power and they don't realize how short sited the quick profit is.
The reality is closer to the person who disagrees with you is looking at the problem in a different point of view. In my experience there is only a very few times where I had to implement a method in a way I really disagreed with (Well one) the other times, I can see and understand their view point, and see that after the debate in cases where they one (I have one more then my fair share), While I feel my approach world work just as well, their view would work two, deciding to give a different set of trade-offs.
That one time I was forced to do it the way I really disagreed with, while I did massive effort to get it to succeed. They guy was found to not be a "good fit to the company culture" and left. Where we in essence after that with managements full blessings redesigned the entire project.
When you think you are the best programmer out there, that usually means you actually suck.
When you begin to realize where your strengths and weaknesses and work to improve your weaknesses and leverage your strengths are then you become a better developer.
Good ideas and wisdom come from all levels you need to listen to everyone to be an exceptional developer, you need to realize that someone will look at what you did and say your design and idea is horrible, see why they are saying that, then use it to learn and expand.
I have found the best developers are the ones who want to make software that helps their customers and are willing to hold back their own egos to accomplish the goals. When I hire a developer I look for someone who will do the following. When given a task question me on my approach if they feel it is wrong, argue with me professionally to explain their point, if they loose their argument do the best they can do to implement the way I wanted so it will succeed. On the flip side I agree to listen to their argument and judge their method fairly and let them win if their argument is better then mine, and I will work as hard to have his idea be successful.
I have worked in the industry long enough to be confident in my work and produce good work, and I am not afraid to be wrong.
No it is more of a case that most companies don't need a team of rockstar developers.

Well what would be the point of a space station if it couldn't accommodate humans?
The goal of the ISS is for humans in space. Life Support is ISS main mission.
This is one of the comments that needs a score higher then 5.
If you are going to scientific research.
You have a choice.
Montana,
Siberia,
or
Some tropical island. Where would you choose?
