Well I think the extra clumsy ness of an external numeric pad, isn't really that huge. I use to bring an external keyboard around with my laptop all the time without much issues. The Apple Keyboards are actually nice to type on and they are very thin so they can fit in your bag. The external numeric pads I have seen seem to fit well in a laptop case as well. I think this author is posting because he really wants to keep his desktop but his boss is pushing a laptop. So he is trying to confirm that he cannot do his job without the desktop.

I am for more environmental conscious companies. However Greenpeace with its lies and over exaggerations, make it seem companies who are trying to do the right thing are doing nearly enough, or give estimates that a company knows it cannot meet, so may just scrap the whole idea. or because they are being called the environmental bad guys even when they did the good thing, they will not try to improve their press relations much on that topic.

In terms of User Interfaces you have an Uncanny Valley type effect going on. you can only make it seem to life like until people start to react negatively to it. Microsoft with on Vista and Windows 7 probably reached that limit. So in the new UI, they are cutting back and making things more abstract.
But if you pay careful attention in windows 8 you can see a lot of eye candy going on, I had installed the Customer Preview there are a lot of effects going on but they are not designed to be as showy as before, but seem to have more of purpose.

Unless we solve the problems of...
    1. Range
    2. Recharge Time
    3. Getting the Grid to handle all the cars.
    4. How do we generate all that electricity to do so.

Range and Recharge time. is the biggest issue for me. I travel 30 miles to work and 30 miles back. That is 60 miles. Most electric cars are pushing 100 miles, but that is the ideal range... what is the range going up a mountain? What if the batteries after 8 years are not optimal...
Next my parents live 800 miles away. Say I have an electric car that can do 500 miles per run. I drive mostly there, however I need to recharge. Can I recharge in 5-10 minutes or will I need to spend the night charging my car.

I do not have the money for a car to drive to work and a car to drive longer ranges.

So we will still need chemical powered cars, until these issues are fixed. I am happy to see that they are getting a lot more fuel efficient. That is a good sign, because electric cars are not going to solve all the problems.

  10. Re:Yes, it will raise prices on U.S. Imposes Tariffs On Chinese Solar Cells · · Score: 2

Yes the low labor cost debate...
However the United States is much better as improving efficiency in the process. So one worker can do the work of many low wage workers. Now if China is selling things below cost then that is bigger issue, because then we are producing optimally, however the Chinese government is producing sub-optimally, in an attempt to monopolize the market.

While Labor cost is a big expense, it isn't the only one, and isn't normally the key factor. We are seeing a lot of In sourcing happening in the market right now. As they found out that this cheap labor is not cheap labor+the high efficiency that they were expecting, but cheap labor and low efficiency, which isn't saving them a lot.

The full Free Market has Huge ups and downs (Where the ups are excellent, and the downs are horrible). Now over our history we have put different amounts of regulations, Regulations tend to limit the Ups and Downs and stabilize the markets, so there is less extremes allows a stable predictable market and everyone is happy... however they are less happy during the upswing (and demand for more free market, which in turn creates a heavier down swing). Now too much regulation will keep everything at a statuesque. And this will hinder a lot of innovation, and new markets from emerging, so in time the economy will degrade as it isn't adaptable enough.
There is a careful balance that is needed for the optimal balance. It is like trying to hold the most amount of water in your hand. If you grasp too tightly you squeeze all the water out, if you let you hand be flat the water will then just rush out, you need to cup your hand enough for the optimal amount of water to stay.

However unlike grasping you hand where you can find the optimal range with some basic calculous, the economy isn't so predictable, so you need touchy freely work to get it right, and after you get it right it will change on you so you need to try again. The Lazy Political Motivated peole like to go to extreams of saying No Government or all government, so we just don't need to keep trying. However to stay optimal we always need to keep trying and going back and forth, with no end in sight.

I consider myself a moderate with a little bit of right leaning. I don't really care for the Tea Party I see them as too extreme for my taste. However as someone with significant Science and Engineering training and experience. These disciplines really don't push my political beliefs.

Unless I am going deal with the issues that the real nuts care about such as Evolution (which I hold as the most solid theory) or Global Warming (which does exists and is caused by man) Where my training will form my opinions.
