  1. Granted the Scissor/Membrane chicklet keys arn't that bad. Compared to the 1980's Chiclets keys, where you had to be very precise (or hard) on your button pressing, with wide spacing, and lack of feedback. The new chicklet are just a diference face to the key, without the bevel to make it look like a mechanical keyboard.

The disciplines of Math and Science can show us trends and long term projections, and give us these big picture complex problems. But the solutions to solve these big problems seem to require suffering short term problems, which we are evolved to instinctively respond to.
If a predator is threatening myself or my family, I am not going to go, well this animal is endangered, and us humans are over populated, so Ill just be passive about the problem and see what happens. I will setup conditions where my family is safe over the safety of such animal. The more urgent this threat, the less of a long term solution I will have for it.

I am not sure if any of you remembered some rather unpopular toys from the 1980's. They where pneumatic powered creatures. where you pumped them up 20-30 times. flip a switch they would walk/drive/hop for about 30 seconds. They had these tanks on them the size of 4 D sized batteries. Which they would have the energy to power such action for hours.
If you were to fill them up too much the tanks would break, and the toy will be broken.
Now the energy of the 30 pumps gave more energy then such movements onto a generator to charge a battery. But there were a lot of tradeoffs.

Moving parts wear out, a tank that is dealing with changing rising and dropping pressure forces will need to be monitored and maintained, enough room will need be made for to safely hold and store the tanks.

  9. But instead of blaming the dog, you can blame your cellphone.

  10. Compressed Air Energy has one major drawback. If there is a problem it could cause an explosion. And unlike from chemical energy storage such explosions cannot be monitored and cutoff as quickly.
I once had a tanker truck drive by me, and at the same time, the tanker had buckled inwards a dent (probably from pressure differences from changing altitude) I needed to stop my car and inspect it, because that little buckle felt like something had hit my car from that pressure wave.

There is a lot of danger in compressed air.

This can be mitigated with proper maintenance and monitoring. But this is the same with nuclear energy, Companies don't want to do it, because it costs money that cuts into its profits, and governments don't want to do it, because the Tax payers need to pay for it.

And I would need to copy and sell thousands of books in order for me to break even. So copyright violators were doing serious business and were quite intentional on what they did. So the fines and punishments were just to the level of preventative action needed.

Now today we can use a Computer that costs less then $20.00 (say a raspberry Pi) We can take an exact copy and distribute it a billions of times. If we had gotten some malware on our system, it could had even do this without our knowledge. This throws justice into a difficult situation.
The violator has tools which make copyright violation super easy, and effort is usually need to make sure you do not violate the law. While the company that is being violated is getting a bigger set of damages from not being able to sell such product, because of general availability.

Currently the punishment is very harsh to the violator, which isn't necessarily just to the crime, while the volated companies need to work hard to enforce their IP.

Don't forget the leftwing nutjobs too.
The problem of escalated tensions in discourse (I am going to side recent violence from the rightwing nutjobs, and focus on the normal communication discourse) is there no way to find who started it, and we really shouldn't care who did.
However Post WWII Victory from the US, and with the horrors of war, and horrors of the Holocaust fresh in the generations head, lead to a strong dislike of war, and a feeling of needing increased morality in relations with other people. Now this didn't stop wars or racism, but unlike in previous generations these started to get push-back. Now this created the Anti-War movement for Vietnam. This created a lot of unfair and cruel redirect to the Solders who had to face the horrors of war, then go back and have their peers at home to mock them and call them a murderer. Now this made the people returning, not really like the left. The next big issue in political discourse was Row vs Wade, and abortion. Now the Right unhappy about this ruling are now the ones calling the other side murders.
So we now have two sides with a strong ethical stance, fighting each other.
But the political divide was more like fans of opposing sports teams. Then the redirect escalated as media diversity increased. Cable News with 24 hour cycles that in order to keep content flowing brought in the News Opinion to fill up the space, having arguments back and forth, the more heated the better the ratings. Then the internet came out, where the most crazy and often most vocal members of a side could get their voice out, with little fear of retribution, and little if any fact checking.
This polarization isn't about ideas or policy (while many arguments are coded as such) we are now defensive because we hate the other guy, because the other guy hates us.
I drive a Prius, I recently got cut off by a large pickup truck with a bumper sticker saying they will cut off Prius. I live in a rural areas, Pickup Trucks are common, because they are often needed for their livelihood. My Livelyhood requires me to commute 30 miles to work, so I got a car with the best gas mileage that I could afford at the time.
The pickup truck driver sees Prius owners as a threat because Prius Owners has/had a tenancy to be preachy and he probably fears that if we have our way we will push him to get rid of his truck that he enjoys and uses for his livelyhood, and get the same little car that I have. Now that he was clearly targeting me, I no longer like that particular driver, but I always need to be cautious around larger pickup trucks because I know they see me as a threat.
This sounds stupid, but it is a sign of our times. We see our differences a threat vs a benefit.

Because we more or less assumed that we would adapt to be rational to work better with technology vs. Having technology designed better to deal with our crazy human nonsense.
