  1. Re:Clue Alert on Free Be · · Score: 1

Hear, Hear! The best post yet. I totally agree, and of course, I will still buy r5 even though it's free. Why ? r4.5 is so damn good so r5 will be nothing less, and I gladly payed for both r3 and r4. BeOS is worth the money.

  2. Re:Well in my town on On Keeping Geeks in a Metropolitan Area · · Score: 1

Spoiled ? Here in Sweden, we have a law against working more than 40hrs work per week without extra pay. Not that everybody follow that law, but that's a completely different story. Why work 80hrs/week when you can hire more people, get the work done faster and with better quality ?

  6. .. don't get me started... on On Hollywood and the Portrayal of Computers · · Score: 1

I watched the movie 'Hackers' last night on DVD (I actually bought it!) and while the story itself isn't too shabby, the hacking is. Here is a guy, in a dark room, wearing sunglasses at 3am in the morning hacking on a computer. The screen shows strange animations and the guy is typing away like there was no tomorrow. And it goes on like that through the entire movie. I mean, what is he typing? He can't know so he must be quite a good typist... another good example is the ugly smelly russian hacker in the James Bond flick 'Golden Eye'. He ONLY used IBM PC's through the entire movie and a couple of them ran OS/2...

  7. Music... on Ask Slashdot: What Music do you Code By? · · Score: 1

... Depeche Modes 'Songs Of Faith and Devotion' and Nine Inch Nails 'The Downward Spiral' are two albums that totally rule when you want to get some work done... fast.

  8. A typical American view of things... on The Public & The Internet: Open Forum · · Score: 1

As far as I'm concerned you americans are the only ones that are even close to worrying that nerds are gonna take Quake to the streets. Here in europe, and sweden where I live, geeks are geeks and we're quite happy with that. The US gov. should ban handguns and other weapons instead - the laws regarding guns in the US is what is sick!

  9. Can you say penis envy? on Wired on RMS · · Score: 1

I agree. He might want to make himself relevant by actually DOING something instead of trying to talk his way into the limelight.

Also : RMS might have to realize that while GNU is an important part of Linux and loads of other software packages out there, times passes and as in any evolution, things get outdated and forgotten but there is always something there to be reminded of it.

  10. The Future of the Palm Pilot on Pictures of the Palm V · · Score: 1

The Palm V has one big minus to it - it isn't expandable. You can't add memory or anything else for that matter... but I guess you can survive with 4MB for a while.

  11. Palm V is COOL! on Pictures of the Palm V · · Score: 1

I got to try the Palm V at a press meeting with 3Com last week, and it's totally cool. The case is made in aluminium and it's THIN. The screen is like a thousand times better too compared to the old Palm Pro.

Too bad I had to sign a NDA to get to play with it. I got the pictures today but can't post them yet. :-(

  12. Mounting large volumes with Netware... on Ask Slashdot: How Reliable are Enormous Filesystems in Linux? · · Score: 1

.. in older versions of netware, i.e v3.x or v4.x it really takes ages. But take a look at Netware5 and the new file system... it rox!
