I never really understood why the iPod became the gold-standard for music devices.
Good enough audio fidelity, excellent industrial design, easy-to-use integrated music store, easy data transferring and syncing, and most importantly, a world class user interface, to name a few. If Microsoft could get two of those right, they'd have a good product. Hell, I'll even cave and pre-empt the next reply with "hip advertising campaign" too, because we all know Microsoft could use some help there too.
In order for Microsoft to have "ten-ed - up" Apple that would imply Microsoft had the creativity and engineers in place to develop an elegant UI with decent hardware. I'll give them the decent hardware part--still not sold on Microsoft ever making an elegant UI, however.
But it doesn't matter, because most people: a) can't tell you what Windows CE is, b) name one Windows CE program, c) name a phone or product that runs CE. The iPhone has Apps. The commercial told me so, and the iTunes store made it easy to check them out. That's the formula of marketing success.
Well, I only threw Dell out there for discussion because of their notorious discounting schemes. I mean, if it works when using it as proof that Macs are overpriced, then surely it's a valid claim when comparing prices to build-your-own machines.
I'm sure there are several other PC vendors that have similar, ridiculous discounting, so feel free to replace Dell with HP/Gateway/Whatever. My problem with my scenario though is I hate having to wait around (and/or find) these discounts. If I have a free weekend to build a PC this week, I want to buy the parts on Saturday, not at the end of the next sales quarter.
The amendments to the US Constitution apply to citizens of France as well, because the amendments say what our Government can't do, not what citizens can do.
Casinos don't put habitual gamblers "deeply in debt"? That's news to me! And you don't think there are associations with Casinos and "harassment, suspected murder, etc. etc."? Have you ever heard of the Mob? Maybe you should rent Casino, to get a rough primer--maybe watch a couple scenes of Godfather.
I'm an atheist and find religion to be abhorrent. However, I love the form of government I live in that allows people to believe in whatever magical, invisible, made-up things they want. Xenu, Jesus, Budda, who/whatever. This is why I hated living in Germany, France and the UK, and that's why I love living in the US.
Why is it ok to believe in Jesus, or Allah, but believing in Joseph Smith or Xenu is illegal? They are all akin to my invisible friend I had when I was four--he made me feel better about my personal shortcomings, and he didn't really exist. The right of an individual to be stupid shall not be infringed!
I wonder why they didn't pick Austin? They already have the iTunes/iPhone/customer service division here. There's a ton of talent with UT and lots of other tech companies in town (AMD, Freescale, Dell, to name a few). Real estate and taxes are cheap. Austin has recently been rated the #1 job market in a couple of magazines and is consistently at the tops of quality-of-life ratings. As we say around here, the worst part about Austin is it's surrounded by Texas.
Sounds like my 6-year stint in Georgia. I guess there's a reason they all yell "Yankee go home" at the rest of us when we move there. "You ain't from around here" was another common one I heard a lot.
I speak German (my undergrad degree is in German), yet I have no idea what relevance of your link to "The Awful German Language" article provides. Did I just get whoooshed?
Buy a $300 Dell loaded with bloatware and OEM garbage. Make sure it has at least Intel Core 2 Duo, two ram slots and a PCI-E video slot. Format the hard drive (getting rid of bloat and OEM garbage), upgrade to 4gb ram, buy a decent 3d video card (what are they now days, about $200 for a good one?). There's a $550 solution (if you already have keyboard, mouse, monitor).
It's worked well for me for well over 10 years now. If you have to go through the pain of owning a Windows based system, you might as well buy cheap, upgrade cheap, dispose of cheaply when it outlives it's gaming worthiness (about 2 years).
And? There have been applications for phones that have allowed you to draw things for years.
That's my point. The guy should have linked to any number of phones, if he wanted to credibly discredit the iPhone story--not a tablet pc. He might as well have linked to a an art site that sells easels and oil paints.
However, it is a bit disingenuous to think that phones with software from a few years back are anywhere near as usable in the same capability as the iPhone app that was used for the New Yorker cover art.
Define "small player on the mobile phone market". I read a slashdot article this weekend showing Apple as the #3 cell phone manufacturer (after Nokia, and Rim??).
More importantly, the guy posting the tablet PC link totally misses the point. Sure you can draw a New Yorker magazine cover with a table PC but this guy did it with a phone. For his remark to have been modded up, perhaps he should have linked to another phone that also can draw pretty pictures.
Or, maybe the fact that Apple develops one of the main three OS platforms, they are actually relevant when it comes to technology news? Dammit, I just fed the troll.
then I don't see why it can't be a hit also.
Only works with Windows...for starters.
You'll pass on HD radio in favor of what?
Um, the internet?
...and my 120GB of personal music.
Do they work with OSX yet?
Gay people make more money than straight people, and Mac users are more intelligent than PC users. Consider yourself counter-flamed.
Yes, because I always buy whatever it is the people who I THINK are snobs are not buying. Enjoy your house full of crap!

The 'thousands' of programs in the Apple App Store will be surpassed in six months, if the new Zune is not locked down like an Apple product.
Less space than a nomad. Lame.

So? (hehe, get it? So? "Also" in German means "so" in English).

The only virgins in North Carolina are those without siblings or cousins...or fathers.

Heh, kinda like my coworkers who think Paint is good enough to edit screen shots for technical writing & documentation!

Imagine that--an artsy magazine glorifies products from artsy computer companies!
