    As a faithful Mac user since 1986, let me tell you something about woeful market share--it matters not. I don't measure my friends as a percentage of all people in the world so why should I measure my OS of choice the same way? The way I see it, the more Linux boxes out there, the more chance somebody who has never seen or used Linux will be exposed to it, and might start using it themselves. This phenomena is completely independent of market share. If Linux grows from (make up numbers time) 5 million to 10 million, I have twice as much of a chance as encountering it, even if PCs went from 500 million to 1 billion in the same time period.

    All a high market-share tells me is what platform is the most mediocre.

    Yes, but somebody skilled in video editing and graphic design can easily make changes to a .fla file, but not a javascript file. Sometimes complexity is prohibitive, especially with small to medium companies that don't have a small army of programmers.

    The article doesn't say html 5 will have some sort of mechanism in place to manipulate and display vector art. Until that happens, Flash will be king for the sort of content that relies on vectors as opposed to rasters/bitmaps.

    It surprises me to see so many supporters of such oppressive products.

    Given the choice between "oppressive product" that is ugly and doesn't work half the time or an "oppressive product" that just works, I'll take my oppression in heavy doses for the later.

    Do you mean "watched the show" as in beyond three episodes? Because I tried, but got tired of exploding cars and killer robots chasing the hero from town to town. Perhaps the show died because they didn't advance the supposed compelling writing along sooner.

    Actually, yes, they do--at least the Arab terrorists: http://www.acpr.org.il/ENGLISH-NATIV/issue1/bukay-1.htm Scroll down to the "the Phenomenon of Time" section. The airplane is a symbol of western (fill in the blank...progress, excess, civilization, etc.) and is thus the primary target for (Arab-culture) terrorists. With my background in Arabic, I know this, as do the people who are putting special emphasis on airport security.

    Right. The millimeter-wavelength full-body scans can reveal anything somebody is trying to conceal whereas a metal detector, well, detects metal. I'm not afraid of a guy with some pocket change or an over-sized belt-buckle, but I am afraid of a guy with a wooden/plastic/non-metal bomb.

    I think the shoes/hats/water bottle things are stupid too. But we should just ditch the whole security check point as others seem to want. To me, the detectors (to include the wang/boobie exposing imager) are not unreasonable, not intrusive and might actually have the potential to speed up the process while providing better security.

    Ok, then since you need a plane, you probably should go through the detector thing. Otherwise, it's a long boat ride. I'm still confused as why everyone thinks flying on a plane is a right and that public safety issues needn't apply.

    Police states are evil. Scanning a passenger getting on a plane is a large leap from police state. I call BS on the "gladly" comment as well. If you were offered an international flight from NY to Israel from two different carriers--one with no security, and one with a metal detector, you'd "gladly" walk through the metal detector. Even if the odds are "slim" there's no reason NOT to take REASONABLE precautions, such as having all passengers walk through a scanner.

    I see where you're going, but I don't think it is in the name of "security". Profit is a much more likely reason/goal.

    Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right. I just wanted to try and give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt once, just to see what it felt like. I don't like how it felt, so I'll probably not do that again.

    Well, I wasn't implying that Avid was bad because it was old, I was implying it was bad, because people who use it think it's good (like and old beat up Porsche is "good" because it says "Porsche"). There seem to be far better tools now days, and Avid simply hasn't kept up.
