  1. Re:Loud Pipes do not necessarily save lives on World's First Fuel-Cell Motorcycle · · Score: 1

I can tell you right now that when I went from a V-4 to a V twin it made a huge difference in the way people reacted to me on the street.

even seeing the difference between my old V-4 with a not so good exhaust and my friends new V-4 with a nice quite exhaust was like night and day. The primary difference is the way people pulling onto the road react. when approaching an intersection with someone on a side street waiting to enter traffic the difference was more noticeable. people were far more likely to look over and notice me than before.

that said... there is such a thing as too much of a good thing... when I bought my current bike I was concerned about the pipes being obnoxious but they arent louder than many sports cars and I have been very happy with them.

no... certainly not difficult. but it is difficult to reason that the life line of the capitol of the state... which brings in huge amounts of tax revenue for said state... is worth more than the cost of finishing up the project.

I dont understand why anyone would want to kill this project now when it is so close to completion and there is no other viable support infrastructure in place for the city.

now if you could go back to the beginning and compare the value of the upgrade to what it actually ended up costing you might make a different decision, but we call that 20/20 hindsight.

they are going to build a large, beautiful snaking park that will go from the north end to south station.

    should be absolutely beautiful.

but it wont help you find parking... maybe the new MBTA upgrades will help you get into boston easier. Check your it out and be sure to attend community meetings to make your voice heard.

yes... canning it now would be dumb... its practically finished.

The plumbing and sewer infrastructure upgrade was sorely needed. I remember a few years ago there was a water main break in boston and when they dug it up the found the pipe that broke was made of wood.

    wood.

as in hundreds of years old... made of wood...

yea... maybe we should upgrade those.

and the sewer system has needed an overhaul for years. the way the storm drains and residential drains are linked together causes massive pollution of the boston harbor whenever there is a heavy rain storm. these things are far overdue.

actually, the reason you pay the insurance you do is because mass has state regulated insurance prices for autos. one of the reasons that you cant get progressive or geico in mass is because the state sets the price structure for all insurance.

if you have a clean record you are on the good side of the structure, if not you are on the bad side of the price structure. Where you are in the state only factors in with theft rates.

that said, insurance is expensive here.

while I wouldnt be surprised to see this tech hit the x-server market, I believe strongly that this will show up in the Powermac line, and probably first.

for one, powermacs are bigger physically making it easier to cool them. for another, one of the best uses of all that power (in apples market) is high end video and desktop publishing... which would tend more toward the powermac side of things.

I wonder about that. I have a friend that works with a lot of highschool and middle school age kids and according to him role playing games (primarily 3ird edition D&D) are becoming more mainstream amongst kids these days. Not quite mainstream enough to be considered common but far more than when we were that age.

I suspect this might be a combination of WOtC owning D&D and making giving it a more out of the box game feel. Also, I suspect the popularity of the Lord of the Rings trilogy has brought this kind of fantasy thinking further into the mainstream.
