You can't argue that each OS has something working better than the other. Even though i personally think Win2k sucks, i have to admit some programs, such as partition magic, etc, work much better under windows based environments than they do linux. Probably because the companies havent released a linux version yet. This must be the reason i havent un-installed win98 yet.
When I install linux, I like to pick lots of custom packages. When installing redhat 6.0, it worked fine, everything on 1 cd. With 6.2, i had to download docs seperately, since i hadn't download the docs cd. And with 7, i had to run across the office to burn cd 2 because i had picked some kde packages to install. Why must we suffer so?
I still remember seeing that in a theatre near here...the walls were almost falling in...and the popcorn tasted like styrofoam...but it was a good movie...
I think the only thing that they have shown is not that there is any intelligent life out there, but that the power company probably is now richer than bill gates, andrew carnegie, and john t. rockefeller combined ever were.
Just because there is censorware doesnt mean it has to work. My school has had websense installed for 2 years now, and i have more backdoors through it than i can count. I still find it funny that the biology website used by half the sophomore class was blocked because it had "learning games" in the meta tags. Even funnier that websenses own website was blocked under "Tastless".

I fluently know perl, c, sh, and can probably explain to them more about the inner workings of a computer than than can understand, yet i fail the exam because i never bothered to take a class in java. Yep, sounds _very_ fair to me.

I like the idea of releasing binaries AND source. Some programs, such as gnome or X, i just dont have the patience to compile from scratch, so RPM's are convenient. Other things, such as GAIM, i update from CVS daily. As for screenshots, i like to use those when first downloading a program to see if the program is jsut a gui or is actually filled with a few features. Sometimes they are misleading, but they are good for hooking new users. It's all personal preference.
Ahh a program that can be ported to any platform almost instantaniously. It will work without flaws and bring joy to all gamers. You have reached: nerdvana.
Ok, if computer users want to use DVDs, they need a decrypter. People make open source decryption programs. Why sue the guy that wrote it when you can just hire him for half the cost and make a profit off of it?
I used to be a straight gamer, with all the latest high tech games (now PoS software titles going for $5 in EB). Now im just a simple coder and net user, but i still play the occational game. There will always be a demand for gaming, basically because mankind demands stuff thats fun, and people like to just be lazy and sit in a chair and blow stuff up in Doom. Even at work i occationally have a Quake deathmatch or a descent anarchy game. Life without games is boring, and boring sucks. Gamers may become less of a rampant buyer, but they will always be there.
On a high traffic network, an admin is more likely to go nuts and crash the network to stop the noises than to enjoy them. And god help you if he likes the game "duck hunt".
The theatre staff laughed at me when i went up to the refeshment area and asked for a new sword and some better armor. I will have to destroy them for that later...
Think about it. For any program that uses an internet connection, the "i agree" button can be linked to just about anything. Knowing that most users dont read 90% of the EULA, they could be tricking you into buying from their ISP or long distance service when you buy a copy of ultima online. Someone is probably already doing it.
Honestly, the government information websites should be set up more for like they are for informational purposes than for businesses. A while ago i checked out the web site for the CIA and it looked more like a private investigation firm where i send an email to sales@cia.gov and they stalk someone for the next month and give me all of their information. I can understand the "employment opportunities" sections, but the overall impression of the sites are often misleading.
They are skinning everything these days. From netscape, to the GUI, to the animals shot in the woods. Oh well, at least Wine should still be a functional program when its done, unlike half the programs i rewrite with customizability =)
Isnt one point of having a PDA that you dont NEED a keyboard? I can see that these fold up nicely, but do i want to take it out, unfold it, plug it in, etc, just to type a quick memo to myself while on the bus? Not really. They may work if you keep your pda in the office for a while during the day, and then just take it with you for reference, but then there is no need to not use a normal keyboard...
The average person makes 5 major career changes in their life. I guess the average dot-commer must make 7 major career changes in a week.

One example of why the newest technology is often overrated at first =)
They all wasted their time on 3d graphics, when the market for 4d and 5d will be opening very soon and making many of us rich =)

Sounds like something right out of Niel Stephensons "The Diamond Age". Hopefully we won't have "toner" all over the place.

Finally i'll be able to locate that backpack that i dropped in the Maryanas trench...
Of course, that assumes that FreeBSD, Openbsd, BeOS, Winblows, linux, etc, arent eating up all my available partitions... (stupid partition tables)

Comedy central. Battlebots. My dream machines.

Sounds like a news site such as cnn suing slashdot for linking to their articles and not their ad filled main page.
It's the fight of the century! The winner gets ALL the XML standards! Taking bets on both sides, give your own odds, come on people...
