Nope, I heard: Harry Potter and Operation Meat Hammer (Or How I learned to stop worring and enjoy beating a dead horse until its no longer profitable).
ps: Thanx stephen.
Seriously? By so called hackers? Or was their mail stolen? And where is the hard data on numbers of police investigations resulting from credit fraud vs numbers of police investigations resulting from credit fraud caused by computer malfeasance? As to why you see it on tv, you see a lot of terrorism stuff (only talking about the US here) and that is virtually unheard of. Paranoia is the life blood of our media.
How do you determine if you have permission? What if you users post links to mp3's, does that make the page owner/hosting company/isp/& search engine that lists your page accomplises in the crime? How do you know who will or will not use the ruling? How do you know the law will be changed if that happens? I'd be careful about how much you are taking for granted.
Tv is an issue about culture. There is a reason foreign owned media is verbotten and canadian content encouraged. You might not agree with it, but the issue is a lot deeper then you think. MRI's, sure you have to wait if you want it for free, but you can still pay for one if you really want it now, it just requires a plane ticket. And the 'rain storm' was a once in hundred year dealio, and water filtration IS subject to environmental upheavals. Using that as somekind of reason to slam our country is just stupid. How would a private water company have prevented the 'rain storm' or its effects. (water tx requires sediment tanks and they can be overwhelmed, its just they way the technology works).
...their identity stolen? This computer fear thing smacks of the whole terrorism scam. How many people here inside the US have been or know personally someone who has been the victim of terrorism? The media, for whatever reason, seems to want to amp up the fear quotient of this nation. I bet that stolen wallets/physical mail account for ten thousand times more id fraud than any computer activities, yet that doesn't get headlines. Nor does the fact you are more likely to die from an accident in your bathtub then you are from a terrorist attack. "300 000 000 Million Potential Victims of Wallet Theft!" or "Your Bathtub: Friend or Insturment of Terror!" are a couple of headlines I'd like to see.
You're such a drama queen. And hyperbolizer (boderline slanderer). And, dare I say it, probably a liar.
Who are you talking to where mentioning open source contributions makes the guy wonder if you're the next Kosinski? And can you NAME these supposed hijackers of open source? Didn't think so.
& I have never run into a coder who thinks they're in some kind of holy war or religious struggle. It's people like you spreading bile that casts dispersions on the developers. And if you knew any of these people, you wouldn't be writing such tripe...which leads me to believe you never contributed anything, and if you did you must have been laughed at.
Somebody has a website with some political stuff on it woooo scary stuff, and really quite odd to see something like that on the internet of all places. It must mean all open source coders are jihading commies. dumbass.
what is also illegal is drawings and photoshopped images here in canada. it's a little thought-poilice like. However, I do understand trying to cut off the financial incentives for child abusers to post their stuff.
Really? East Timor? Stalin era Ukraine? Cambodia? Pol Pot? Government can be evil if it is not of the people for the people--which is definiately is not always.
Umm, no. HK is not a democracy therefore the legal system is fucked and HK's system is not a british legal system even if there are some colonials left colleciting their salaries by enfocing fascist laws. It is no better then mainland's, it's just different.
can you imprision for something so stupid and inconsequential. oh, and the u.s. And can anyone actually cite an independent piece of research that shows if file sharing actually hurts the industry, and if so by how much. Everyone just assumes this tech hurts movie/record companies...but as far as I know, no non-industry funded research has shown this. & the tobbacco industry showed us how good industry science can be. Whereas the enron guys devestated peoples lives.
We have created a system that institutionalizes lies and deception and has created universal suspicion. The public relations industry, and thats what this story is really about, reaches into EVERY aspect of our lives. One of its fundamental tenets is that good pr is totally invisible. If the mark knows he is being fed pr sh1t, his defenses go up. It is truly an insidious profession. Anyone remember the Hill & Knowlton Kuwaiti/Iraqi war effort? If not, they invented the story about the iraqi soldiers removing premature babies from incubators and leaving them to die on the cold floor. They even had people testify before congress. It was the single most emotional reson that swung public opinion behind the war. Yet no one went to jail because of it. Then there is pr news stories that are broadcast as news stories, etc etc.
To see how a jounalist dissects a pr movement, you might want to check out the excellent book: Secrets and Lies: The Anatomy of an Anti-Environmental PR Campaign. It is quite sobering.
I'll leave you with a quote from Orwell: "In a time of universal deception, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." And we are currently drowing in bullsh1t.
I'm just taking a stab, but knowing enough about anthropology/archaeology/evolution to reject pseudo-speciation and the fatuous concept of race. And in so doing recognize that separating humanity based on {insert stupid racial categorizations here} is the province of the ignorant and pathetic. You will not kill your neighbour if you see him/her as fully human.
what if your neighbor wants a different wire company with a different ac standard? and your other neighbor is a big DC guy and likes to buy from the company with the cute animie mascott? And then you dont like the tone of the help desk guy from your wire company so you switch?
Free markets are not a panacea.
Like all debates, the definition of terms must be agreed upon. Are you talking about 'artists' as technicians, entertainers, craftsmans, and other low level journeymen-types?
Or are you talking about people with genius and inspiration? You know the view that some people have to follow their muses and engage in overwhelming creation that transcend the banal world of taxes, roi's, backend deals, merchandising rights, etc.?
Nope, I heard: Harry Potter and Operation Meat Hammer (Or How I learned to stop worring and enjoy beating a dead horse until its no longer profitable). ps: Thanx stephen.
You might want to google 'cd rot' and 'dvd rot' before you put too much faith in the 'provides a lifetime of listening pleasure' slogan.

How about if you bumb the maximum wage up to a million? How many workers will be quitting two months into the new year then?

There is none sadder than the willfully blind. Which am talkshow do you host btw?
You are 100% wrong. Read up on anti-trust laws and the case study of Standard Oil's business practises.

Thanks, that was really funny.
