    How can you say that copyright infringement isn't theft? The Word it's self, "copyRIGHT", describes a right that is given to you be law. Copyright is the right to decide when, and how something you write is distributed. When you copy and distribute someone elses work without thier permission you took away thier right to distribute that work in the manner they wanted. By your own deffinition "Theft is defined as depriving someone from the use of something that's rightfully theirs.", you are depriving someone the use of thier rights as defined by the law.

    That's an awful lot of "supposing". You can up with things that will never happen in todays society. No one would put up with changing the number of years of schooling. Why would we want the middle class to stop gaining power? I can hypothisize anything if I "suppose" enough things...

    Suppose that a war breaks out with canada
    Suppose that schools are employed to breed genetically supperiors solders by feeding them special foods for lunch.
    Suppose that after the war these super kids are used as a new police fource to supress everyone in the country.

    See how stupid it can get?

    If you ahve an inury that could have ben prevented had you ben wearing a seatbelt then more people then yourself are hurt. Insurance rates will rise or stay high because of it, ambulance crews will be stressed beyond thier limits when they should be saving other people's lives.

    Not really. The child still has the opertunity to make mistakes, by going to web sites that thier parents don't want them to. They just get to learn that there are consequences when they find out. By giving parents the oppertunity to see what thier kids are up to, will be able to let the kid know they did something that isn't approved of.

    Ummm.. I don't think I qualify as a fudster. I use both linux and windows. At home I dual boot between Linux and windows. At work I use a Mac that boots unto Yellow dog linux (YDL2 will be released in a few days btw), and Mac OS. I managed to get Linux approved for a bunch of computers that were donated to the school I work for. I'm only recounting my experiences as a user of the 3 most popular operating systems, Windows, Linux, and MacOS.

    There si an easy solution. Monitor the teen, if they are being responsable then they shouldn't require thier every move to be tracked. Some kids NEED to be watched every second, it's just the way kids are.

    Parents are legally accountable for the actions of thier children. The parent is in charge of making sure the child goes to school, does thier schoolwork, and is in class. I don't see any reason why the child should have access to that kind of information about thier parent. The child is not accountable for the adult.

    It puts power into the hands of the parents, where it should be. We are always saying that parents need to watch thier kids while they are on the internet, many can't, this will help a little in allowing them to see what thier kids are doing. This could be a bad thing if the records are given to people other then the parents. This data is a gold mine for corperations that want demographics.

    In Windows 2000 professional, to change network properties, I just click control panel, then network, and select a connection to edit.
    Wow, immagine that, network settings being under the network controll panel, I never would have looked there. That's a very intuitive design, placing things that controll the computer inside the controll panels. Compare that to linux where you have to manually edit text files in god-knows-what directory. Figure out how to compile a network driver if I have a non-standard card. Figure out how to load the network module. Edit the startup scripts to load the module on startup. Yeah, that's much more intuitive.

    My boss actually has the TiBook. He's making everyone in the tech deparment drool over it. The display is nice, but I havn't had much of a chance to use it myself, so I don't know how it would work with my eyes. I've used a few of the cinima LCD displays while I was setting up some new G4s for the office staff, they worked pretty well, but still put stress on my eyes. I havn't found anyhting that feels as good to my eyes as a monitor running at a high refresh rate. Maby some day LCDs will work for me, but not yet.

    ahhh, thank you for showing me what I was missing! Although I'll have to add oner con for LCDs. They really bother my eyes when I look at them for long periods of time, even teh high quality ones from Apple.

    I work for a school district so we use almost exclusivly Macs. My laptop provided by the school is a Powerbook G3 with a nice size LCD screen at 1024x768. After spending the entire day looking at this screen my eyes get so tired it almost feels like they are "buzzing". It's easier on my eyes to be at home looking at a monitor set to 1600x1200 at 70mhz, it almost makes my eyes feel better. Also as a school district teh added cost of these LCDs will cause us problems budget wise. It's hard enough for us to get funding for any computer equipment at all, let alone trying to get 60 computers all with LCDs through.

    Just because LCD is the newest technology doesn't mean it's better by default then what we have now. With current monitors you get, IMHO, a much bigger picture, that looks nicer, for much less money. In all of the examples you list there is at least some benifit gained from using the new technology. The only benifit I can see for an LCD screen is the "wow factor". Maby I'm being short sighted, but I just don't see it.

    The web site mentions that the future plans for the device call for the mouse section to be wireless. The strap minght actually be a good idea, but a pin if you have to scratch your nose quick. I could really see people gouging thier eyes out if it's strapped to thier hand when they go to pick thier nose.

    It was even really Beta hardware. What they had going to pretty much a super powered PC running an xbox emulator. Teh graphics chip hasn't even been fabed yet. It's almost understandable that something as complex as teh xbox could crash when it was being run totally as a software emulator.

    Not all software. It would be possible to write a VERY simple program that runs on a computer, possible without an OS that could never fail except for hardware reasons. Immagine a simple loop that does nothing more then print "*" to the screen.

    I don't understand this argument, could you be more specific on how this would help people who design levels? I've tried to make a few levels for half-life, and I'll admit that I'm not that good at it. Maby being able to see through the walls would let me make better levels, but I doubt it.

    When Amazon did it they gave different prices to different people based on thier individual actions within the site based on cookies. This new system for changing the price of computer equipment is based on inventory and many other factors that arn't really related to the user's actions. To me this seems much more fair that what Amazon did.

    I beeive that Apple's drive can only be used to burn movies using Apple's own software. You couldn't use it to say, back up your hard drive, or store MP3s on. I'm not 100% sure of this though.

    A DVD disk does not need to contain video data, it can store just plain old data, like a term paper, or games. The DVD video thing is sut one format of DVD that the movie industry controlls right now. The DVD medium it's self isn't controlled by anyone really. Saying the movie industry controlls DVDs is like saying the music industry controlls CDs.

    The more we use that argument the more we tell them that it's ok for them to take away our rights, because, hey, we have more. It's not ok to just sit back while huge companies roll over us. I don't know what to do about it myself, other then not buying to stuff, but I don't think that will really affect anything, there are enough stupid people in the world who WILL buy it.

    The story says the games will be built in when the system ships. I'm sure there will be ways to add more though, and idiots manage to do that with cell phones, so it shouldn't be too tough.
