EFF's lawyers charged $400,000 for checking to confirm that the video was covered under fair use then writing one letter to that effect? That's not legal advice, that's extortion.
You don't take into account all the time they spent thinking about writing that letter and thinking about thinking about writing the letter and then of course there is the time they spent talking with other lawyers about writing the letter.
We have public health care in Norway and I see far fewer problems than in the US...
Population of Norway: 4.6 to 4.8 million ( I see several different sources with various numbers in that range)--Population of the U.S.: 308 million. I would bloody well hope there are a lot fewer problems in Norway than in the U.S., but is it less than 1.5% of the problems in the U.S.?
(and it is controlled, contrary to what you claim; as you gave an example, you'll be kicked out of the church if not behaving "appropriately"...and also when asking uneasy questions, I can assure you that (I live in a country that's formally 90+ % Catholic)) - in such informal, loosely knit place as the net, how do you even know you're dealing with converts? Heard about/b/?
BTW, Catholics are far from open at this point (which admittedly wasn't the case at the beginning) Why there is a need for secret documents? (notably regarding "revelations" of one kind or another; meantime the faithful are allowed to worship them...) Can you show me any reliable research about content of confessions?
Yes, you would be kicked out of church if not behaving appropriately, please list one public meeting that you won't get kicked out of if you behave inappropriately.
What "secret documents" are you talking about?
The priest is sworn/obligated to keep what he is told in confession a secret, the lay person is quite free to tell anyone anything s/he wants about what happened/is said in confession, so that really doesn't say anything about "controlling the message".
BTW I am not a Catholic.
You see the thing is, a carrier in Finland only has to compete with another carrier in Finland. In the U.S., you have to cover the whole country if you want to compete. Are there any carriers who offer the same level of service for the same price no matter where one goes in Europe?
The classic example is the work of art that the janitor cleaned up and threw away the night after the opening party because s/he thought it was just trash left by the people who were at the opening party.
Many early attempts to break the speed of sound ended in crashes. The reason that Chuck Yeager is credited with breaking the speed of sound is because he and his plane survived the experience.
So, you disagree with those people who think our system should be made more responsive to the will of the people? The less impact a single vote (any single vote) has on the outcome of an election, the less responsive elected officials need and will be to the will of the people.
Under McCain-Feingold there were limits as to how much of my money I could spend to advocate for a particular candidate (or against a particular candidate). As a matter of fact, this case was about a corporation that was formed for the express purpose of putting out a film that was derogatory towards Hillary Clinton.
... is not really what I want people thinking about when I ride a limited-edition experimental craft into the most dangerous place there is. I want them thinking about keeping my ass alive and nothing else.
Right, because it is so profitable to be known as a company that kills your passengers. On another note, who are you recommending to do it then, because it seems that the people at NASA are thinking about covering thier ass, not about keeping the astronauts alive.
Actually, I think they were thinking something along the lines of "Qwerty trumps all the others", but in the process of writing it came out the way it did. And while other people point out that this has apparently become an idiom, it does not to my ears make sense.
You don't understand. The Electoral College increases the value of every vote. The system you propose would reduce the value of individual votes, making your (and everyone else's) vote less significant.
So, you would prefer an election where there is no point in voting because your vote doesn't count?
The Electoral College doesn't make a specific individual vote carry more weight, it makes every individual vote carry more weight. That is, it makes every individual vote more influential.
Except of course, they aren't. They are being paid. Contrary to your post, Open Source Developers are being mainstreamed and getting paid to do it. You mistake "volunteer" for "open source". Volunteer developers are being marginalized, but Open Source Developers are gaining ground all the time.
If there were reasonable caps to contributions, say, $1,000 per person (people) and _no_ corporations were allowed to contribute, then the people get the power back..
So, if I want to spend $2,000 (of my money) to rent an auditorium to stand up and tell everyone who shows up how terrible a particular political candidate is, "Sorry, that's more than $1,000, you can't say that"?
NO, it increases the significance of an individual vote, even in the most populous states. Which is more significant one of approximately 25 million (the population of Texas) or one of approximately 300 million (the population of the US in total)?
No Corporations and Unions are different from Political Parties and Individuals in a specific way. The first two are not organized with a single set of political ideals in mind. Thus you will end up with people who's money or work go towards causes they do not believe in..
Except that the Corporation in this case was organized with a single set of political ideals in mind. The Corporation in this case was Citizen's United. The Corporation was formed to create a film critical of Hillary Clinton.
Now your vote really doesn't count... if it ever did after creation of the electoral college. With unlimited spending the sheep who listen without thinking will just keep electing who they're told and never consider the consequences. Yay...
So, you apparently believe that the votes of individuals have not counted in the U.S. since the ratification of the Constitution. Of course, what you don't seem to understand is that the Electoral College actually increases the weight of an individual vote. I saw an article online several years ago where someone worked through the math to show that by dividing people up to vote for the members of the Electoral College it increased the weight of each vote over a simple majority takes all system.
One thing to keep in mind, the "corporation" in question was a group of people who did not like Hillary and made a movie about her. They attempted to distribute this movie as pay per view in 2008. Lower courts ruled that the movie was a long political ad and therefore should be subject to regulation under the McCain-Feingold bill.
Science fiction writers say screens will go away, replaced by glasses or contacts or other type of worn HUD which can show things in an arbitrarily wide field of vision. It ain't reality yet, of course, but it doesn't really sound all that far-fetched.
They, also, used to say that the keyboard would go away and we would go to voice input. I am pretty sure that for everyday use, some type of worn HUD would show similar problems to voice input.
Oracle is sure to kill or marginalize MySQL. Rest in peace my old friend.
I don't know about that. If I was running Oracle, I would do three things: gradually modify MySQL to make it easier to transition from MySQL to Oracle, market MySQL heavily as a lightweight, easy databse for companies and organizations that can't justify the cost of Oracle for their database needs, develop and market a for pay support structure for MySQL that easily transitions to Oracle if the database gets big and complicated enough to justify the transition (and train the support staff to not transition anybody until they really got significant benefit from the transition.
Simply invert the statistic and state what this new portion represents (usually the opposite). In this case:
A full 44 percent of visitors to Google News scan headlines without accessing newspapers' individual sites
... turns into:
A full 56 percent of visitors to Google News scan headlines and access newspapers' individual sites
Wow, doesn't that sound better? Not only that, but it makes the next step easily seen: how many people scan Google News? What's 55% of that number? How many clicks is that? Isn't that a gigantic portion of a news site's revenue?
But hey, the stat sounds much more evil when you say it the other way around.
The thing is, the way the stat is listed is part of the reason so few people actually read the articles. The news industry has been wording headlines to increase hype so long that they think that the way they have distorted the news to hype it up is the news. I don't know how many times I have looked at an article that looked interesting where the important information was somewhere near the end of the article, if it was included at all. I remember when I was in school being taught that the important stuff, the five W's (although one of them is an H), should be in the first paragraph. OK, so you don't want it in the first paragraph because you want people to read the article, but I still shouldn't have to read the whole article to find out if you ever get around to saying: What, Who, Where, When, and How.
or not. Obama or not, remember that Hollywood greases Republican and Democrat pockets alike..
That is patently false. If you look at political donations from Hollywood, it overwhelmingly favors Democrats. If one looks at executives of RIAA and MPAA companies the imbalance is even greater.
So, the story about ACORN giving advice to a couple about how to import underage girls to work as prostitutes and avoid paying income taxes on it is "irrelevant political rumor"? Or the story about Obama firing an Inspector General (in violation of a law that Obama sponsored as a Senator) for investigating one of Obama's politcal allies is "celebrity gossip"? There were several other stories that broke on the web that were barely covered by the NYT, but that are of significant importance to political discussion in this country (no matter what you think of the stories).
Run this by me again.
EFF's lawyers charged $400,000 for checking to confirm that the video was covered under fair use then writing one letter to that effect? That's not legal advice, that's extortion.

I was wondering that as well, considering that the first airplanes that exceeded the speed of sound broke apart due to the stresses.

market MySQL heavily as a lightweight, easy databse for companies and organizations that can't justify the cost of Oracle for their database needs
Oracle has already a free (as in beer) database : Oracle Express. It was tailored to replace MySQL, a few years before this buy out.
Has it had any success at market penetration?
Oracle is sure to kill or marginalize MySQL. Rest in peace my old friend.

Obama taught, was editor of the Harvard Law Review, and graduated top of his class. .
Upon what do you base the assertion that he graduated "top of his class"? I was unaware of any of his college transcripts being released to date.
