Indeed, do you intend to announce anything that has previously been kept a secret, or do you just want to make a big proper press conference to give the media the relevant info as a package? Because I don't get the impression you're going to announce info that is new for anyone who has been following the progress of your (awesome!) company.
On many sites, there is no way to disable supplying a hidden question and answer. Which is why I always input a random sequence of characters for both with the maximum length allowed, and I can safely forget about that attack vector.
I disabled the ads, but only because the most of the times I am logged in is when I'm browsing from my phone (or I want to post), to get a version of the Slashdot layout that is light on bandwidth. The prices for mobile Internet access here are atrocious.
> Should someone win, they get to keep the drive. They also will receive $500.00 USD and the title "King (or Queen) of Data Recovery".
Oh my, some schmuck on the internet is offering to send us a used hard drive and promises to give us $500 (in another place on the same site, $40). Our company must definitely do this!
I don't give a fuck what they do with their stupid OS, what I care is if I payed the MS tax, I want to be able to run stupid MS apps when I have no choice.
Hm, ok, I may have misunderstood you point, but only because it doens't make much sense. What matters here is whether the price difference would be compensated for from power bills over their lifetime.
I know noone reads TFA, but it's worse when someone skims the summary but doesn't pay attention to it.
You should have read the following sentence: "A set-up including 21 individual nodes draws a maximum of just 85 watts under real-world conditions." ratehr than skimming through it.
It orbits closely around its star once every 20 hours, [...]
That's why they were able to detect it, and all other planets we have found, the bigger oens make the star wobble by their gravity and this orbits so closely that it makes a visible dark spot on the star. But it is true of course that in the near future some good gizmos are going operational that will help. But we can't be sure what we'll see. I am optimistic, though.
Our technology as of now is not good enough to detect earth-sized planets at any distance. The discoveries we have made have been due to said planets having specific rare properties of their orbits. So of course, we still have no way to tell how common solar systems like ours are, although we do know it's not almost all of them, quite a few are different, most of the ones we've been able to discover. But we don't know anything about the rest.
I prefer CLI and ncurses apps, because they are designed for a keyboard interface. I have found console-based apps for all my needs, and the only thing I run most of the time I run a screen session in urxvt and forefox with vimperator, which also saves me form having to reach for a touchpad/mouse. This is of course doable also with ratpoison, xmonad, and others, but in GUI apps ease of control exclusively form the keyboard is not usually a big priority.
Firefox has had fine-tuning for this, but it's buried in about:config. Opera is better and Chome has arrived at the almost perfect solution. I don't have time now to go into details right now though, sorry. But basically Chrome lets you pick the languages in which you want domains displayed without warning and otherwise it warns you.
I remember reading about this decades ago in a book by Stanislaw Lem.
I would love to run somethign like Contiki on it.

That's actually the reason I created a profile, the default preferences got intolerable.
The primary reason I log in, personally, is to have sensible interface preferences.
Didn't they make this kind of experiment in Primer? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primer_(film)) Decreasing gravity with superconductors?
Dammit, I'm still half asleep. That's 3.3^(1/3) g, which is 1.5 g. And is still the correct value.
Assuming an equal density to that of Earth, the surface gravity would not be 3.3 g. It would be 3.3^(2/3) g, or approximately 1.5 g.
Did you even read the GP comment? He was refering to what the policemen claim in their testimony. And you were even modded up.
>Gender equality is not the same as having a 50/50 male/female split in every field.
I think it is you who should explain why anything but a 50/50 split would be natural.
This is one of the funniest posts I have ever seen here.

Here, I found it: "Ten emerging technologies 2008"
I'm confused, shouldn't the GP post be the one modded troll?

This is the first time I have laughed at a Yakov Smirnov style joke. Truly, now that Obama is president the world is a better place.
To those who modded this insightful, I'm not entirely convinced he was being sarcastic.
