  1. We are The Borg. on Using Technology to Enhance Humans · · Score: 5, Interesting
I dont' know about you but I find this thrilling. If you do not want such technology to "enhance" humans I don't care but don't stop me from improving my abilities.

I have always been fascinated by the notion of hive mind and I truly wish that one day, humans will have their brains connected to the net by wifi or something. Each time we have a question, instead of thinking we could access the net of minds. We could have one big hive mind with all of the knowledge or have a distributed system where the knowledge is distributed among our brains. Also, only the most advanced researchers could access the core to change the official knowledge database. We could always have a core that works like the current Wikipedia too. Who knows what's the best way to manage a hive mind?

I'm already answering tons of queries in my job thanks to Wikipedia and Google. I just wish we could go one step further...

  3. It's called Aquarius on Another Small Step Before the Giant Leap · · Score: 1
Aquarius is an underwater ocean laboratory located in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The laboratory is deployed three and half miles offshore, at a depth of 60 feet, next to spectacular coral reefs. Scientists live in Aquarius during ten-day missions using saturation diving to study and explore our coastal ocean. Aquarius is owned by NOAA and is operated by the NOAA Undersea Research Program's (NURP) Undersea Research Center at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

  4. Thinking this through on UK Wants To Ban Computer-Generated Child Porn · · Score: 1

Ok so they want to forbid drawings made on a computer in which kids are doing it with adults. Since the real thing is already illegal and since it doesn't stop the more dangerous pedophiles to trick kids into posing for them or to simply kidnap them, how is this law supposed to bring fear to these persons ? Also I prefer that these persons get off from virtual pictures that look real than from real pictures where child were molested. In other words, this is a stupid and useless law that is only on the table to trick the public into liking the government. Instead of thinking about votes, could you think of the children ?

  5. Violence on German Minister Seeks Jail Time For FPS Players · · Score: 1

I'd like to see the scientific studies pointing to the causality studies. Oh right, all the studies are only CORRELATIONS! See who's to say that violent people wouldn't prefer violent games ? So blaming the industry is something completely stupid. Also if they plan to ban violent games I suppose they'll ban violent entertainment. So no more horror movies I suppose ? When is the ban on paintball ? I dare the government to define "violent" because most cartoons are full of violent acts. Also, does it mean they'll sue people making firstperson shooters like deerhunter? Come on...
