SCO's attempts to corner the market of just about every Open Source product becoming annoying. I agree with the post that IBM should print it all out, every version and send them the resulting documents........ but can we do it in that really small font that Oxford uses for the Oxford Dictionary. Oh and send only one magnifying glass with it so only one person can read it at a time.
For extra kicks remove all the comments to cut back on paper usage. Let the code speak for its self!
It might be important to note that the sory of Atlantis could and is most likly just that a story. Plato like Homer was a great story teller, he was also had an great impact on many Academic Disciplines.
While Homers story of The Illiad was based on the real war that happened in Troy, we have no conclusive prof that an island of Atlantis existed. This discovery may provide evidence of the fabled city, but I won't hold my breath just yet.
Evolution - while quite nice - does not intergrate your document editor with your mail and for home applications does not allow you to access your Hotmail like a pop account.
This was my big reason for upgrading to MS OfficeXP. I could access my eternal hotmail with a mail client instead of that horrid web interface.
After - quickly - scanning their website they are missing one very important business application. Outlook.
MS Office comes with Outlook, the eternal scurge of mail clients. Though for all its problems it has many useful features like the journal, calendar, note, and the intergration with the exchange server system.
Sorry EIOffice lacks this support and is unlikely to gain much in the way of a business application. For business applications, the killer app will be email and it's intergrated "tools" such as the ones I listed.
Oh the lost art of code review's. It seems to me that every time a program - or in this case a protocol - is written. Someone finds a hole in it. What ever happened to taking your code to someone with more experience and asking "hey, is there anything wrong with this"
code, review, fix bugs, review again, fix more bugs and review again....
Actually most security firms who announce these flaws inform the company first to allow them to fix the bug/flaw before it can be used as a tool for harm.
I don't see how this kind of response is so hard to believe from a company who develops and supports mission critical systems.
After working Nortel's 3rd level support for 2 years this kind of response is what TRUE customer support is. You call an 800 number and instantly get a person who KNOW'S what he/she is doing, and will Login and work on your hardware/software issues.
This is not your Mom and pop ISP were talking about, this is Cisco, they do RTOS's for Telephony and Datacom, they have a whole department of people who are in the office 24/7 for just this kind of thing. They more than likely also have a 2nd/3rd level group with someone on call, in case the problem is beyond the ability of the 1st level guy (I.E. A Software patch needed, or product specific problem)
When it comes to customer support, I think a big lesson can be learned from the big 4 (Cisco, Nortel, Alcatel, Lucent) they have refined customer support, so when your switch (weather it be Datacom or Telephony) goes down, you get to talk to someone RIGHT AWAY, Now that's service.
I just finished reading the orignal posting, and find it very disturbing. I am aware that Hotmail has it's own Terms of Use, and many people has pointed that fact out, but in a quick search I found this line in the Terms of Use for Hotmail.
"Some MSN Sites/Services automatically provide you with a Microsoft Passport account when you open an account (e.g. Hotmail, MSN Explorer), to learn more about what a Microsoft Passport is
please visit the Passport web site at www.passport.com "
I belive this answers the orignal posters question as to weather or not Hotmail is affected, but how does it affect Explorer? How can a Online portal's TOS affect a application? Since I am not a M$ Guru, I am only assumeing that Explorer is refering to the application.
Well, to comment on the customer support from the professional side of things.
I work in a major high tech company in a customer support role. I do things like Patch writing, problem analysis, and outage recovery. One thing I have noticed about my company, and my group is that we will go out of our way to try to assist a customer if the problem is with another product, weather it be another product from within our company or another product from a competitor. Also, we will also try to assist when the customer is running an unsupported config.
The idea is to place our customer service above the rest. Taking that extra step ensures they will come back and buy more.
Ok, I just had to reply after reading all the useless flame I saw. How will the courts view "intentionally", will the law go after the code writer, or the person who does the most damage? How about when it was a accident? Or if your are like me and the address book everone in my company uses has everyone else on it? (Company address book == User address book) there are a lot of questions raised over this. Also, what happens when the virus comes from out of the state? We can draw simple lines in the sand, but the courts will use a microscope to draw thouse lines. -Ghost
How will Pinkerton work around the possibility that a revengeful student may target someone based on that very fact "revenge"? This could cause some serious issues, since an after effect could be harassment and not identifying a potionaly dangerous person. The whole system smells of control and restriction of personal expression as oppose to targeting dangerous and harmful students to help them. Another issue is what role will the local guidance Councilors have? The principal? PTA? Pinkerton also has to becareful in how they handle the person identified. Finger pointing (weather it is public or private) could cause a "normal" student to become reactionary and possible harmful to the themselves or the people around him/her

But writing a code for a standard should!

Eventually you have a solid, stable product.

Can you see it now, the world according to the US Government? Have we all lost our minds? So much for the internet being about freedom of information!
