If your reading a good story in a few hours, I would suggest slowing down, savouring it, have a glass of wine (a pint of beer, have a pipe, whatever gets you relaxed) and relax, let your mind process what you have just taken in.
Its not a contest, there is no champion.
Just reading and enjoying it is the way to win.
In regards to having that many books 'on hand', yes, if he was an author having reference material and some good dictionaries can be a great boon, but personally (and I have written some short stories, mostly crap) I don't need more than two to three books a fortnight to keep me entertained, and if I do, there are plenty of book stores scattered about the landscape.
I can bury myself in a book a week if its a good read, one a day if its a great read and yet, am still trying to read book ten of the wheel of time...
Not to put too fine a point on it, but I find most trips require no more than two to three books, if it requires more, I will visit a book store when I arrive.
Well, and keep this hush hush its new tech, there's these things called books, they are an analogue hard-copy format, the best part of them is, there is no link up to the cloud and no company has the rights to remotely disable your copy.
Yeah, the guy has never seemed much more than a sensationalist to me, but ponying up like this raises him a few notches in my estimation.
ANY person or organisation could have done this, the journalists who gladly eat up the data wikileaks is releasing, countries opposed to the united states' policy in regard to silencing him.
You think that's bad? Aussie dollar has been buying more than 1USD for a while now, but our top end smart-phones still cost $900+, our market has gone insane, it used to use the excuse that our dollar was bad to excuse the cost of items, now there's no excuse and they still charge this outrageous price.
Best example of this is http://www.steamprices.com/au/topripoffs , it shows the prices some publishers are demanding valve charge for their games in different regions. Remember, this is for a digital download that steam doesn't even have to worry about in Australia, the big telcos are running the steam content servers here as a service for customers.
And people go on paying the prices because that's how it has always been.
Shh, don't ruin their fragile little world, I said something about Symbian based phones a few threads up and got three death threats and someone threw a brick through my front window... A bricked Iphone that is.
I wanted a phone that could take calls and text, I wanted to be able to use it for music and a little web browsing and required 802.11. Everyone said "get an Iphone". I then said I didn't want to pay more than $300 outright for the thing and they all laughed and told me no phone exists that can do all that for that price.
My little, slightly older model, Nokia Extreme music 5800 is built for this purpose, throw in a copy of SymSMB and it can now talk windows networking over the wireless lan.
I have looked at Iphones and different droids, but the cost is my biggest turn off factor with them, I just can't justify spending that much on something that will be thrown in the bin in 2-3 years anyway.
Then what we need is to speed up development of flying cars, it would be perfect for this, you have the landing deck and timed parking underneath.
OR you could use some of those cheap cruise missiles that chap from New Zealand chap was building as delivery systems, online order and your product arrives at your lat/long within the hour, just, uh, try and stand clear of the 'target area'.
Lets see who is laughing five years into the 'new age', when the apocalypse comes I will still be able to read my books.

As for monetary value, my insurer wanted to know how much my book collection would cost to replace before they would let me put it on my policy.
YES!
Uh, you can perform simple binary math and remember long strings of numbers right? If not we may need to limit functionality a little.
You need to work on your throwing arm, or you don't get nasty big march flies that bite where you live.
Either or.
You, sir, have a great understanding of a books worth.
They are more than their contents, they are more than the words. They are a physical manifestation of a human idea.
Or at least a useful way to keep the broken telly leg level.

Is that lbs or £? ;)
If the former, hazzah for you, if the latter, I suggest a visit to at least three bookshops.

There is nothing digital that compares with sitting in front of a nice open fire reading a book, turning the pages is tactile bliss.
Oh hang on, my psych doctor is on the phone, says I need to book an appointment in regards to my bibliomania...
Sir your post proved my lack a farce.
If you but paste "ezekiel 23 20" into yon google search matrix it will, upon your feeling of luck, give the answer thus.
Aww, there are so many more awesome ones to ban the bible for, ezekiel 23:20 is one of the best ones ;)

Bacteria? Hell in my day we were lucky to have an atom!
Get off my lawn!
Yeah, talked to a few long time players, almost makes me want to sign up... almost.
/me bows, accepting any and all praise.
For my next trick, I will pull an insightful comment out a this Anonymous Coward... PRESTO!
And you wouldn't believe the hate about spelling it iphone or Iphone and not iPhone.
To any and all marketing people, I speak English, and as such adhere to rules of grammar and spelling.

Having more sexual partners doesn't mean more sex.
It just means if you have an Iphone you have a greater chance of getting STDs :)
+1

Oh, so she got a Nokia symbian based phone then?
Yes, I see that, they would not dare shoot down a missile that has a US citizen inside it :)
