Anyway, once Prime comes out, I'm fairly certain it's control scheme will becomce the defacto standard for FPS WII games. It's be nice to play an FPS (Ok, Ok, so MP3 is technically an FPA) on the Wii with a decent control scheme; this bounding box crap just isn't cutting it.
Also, I think that half the reason they haven't shown anyone anything about Prime 3 in the last 6 months or so is because they're doing a graphical overhaul. If there's one thing that Nintendo deserately needs, it's a game that takes full advantage of the increased graphical power of the Wii. It only makes sense to do this with Prime 3; which isn't a casual game by any means. Also, at no point in Metroid Prime 3 do I want to have to "waggle" the Wii-Mote. Waggle != Gameplay
it deserves, which is none. Apparently, it's now up to publishers and developers to police their own games and make sure that stores don't sell their inventory to kids. How many stores are going to carry Halo 3? Sounds like M$ needs to get some hiring done to get every Wal-Mart stocked with an employee who's sole job is to check ID's.
Seriously, WTF is this crap? It's up to the stores who sell the game to police it (If such a thing was required by law), not publishers. The STORES make the decision on if they want the game in THEIR stock, therefore it would (hypothetically) be THEIR responsibility. Porn stores work the same way.
I use large ships with an assload of Gyro Destabilizers myself. Whatever the class below Doomstar is, I load them up with as many Gyro Des. as I can. A fleet of about 12 of these has NO problem taking down the Guardian very early in the game. If you're fast enough, you can usually clear out about half the galaxy with this type of fleet before their ships start getting too strong for this tactic to work. It gives you a nice advantage as the ships are relatively cheap, so you can focus on getting your research up to par with the cheating computer. It's completely useless against the Antareans though.
Stupidity of this level makes my head hurt. I understand that he could be released at any time for any reason as a contractor; but they chose THIS TIME AND THIS REASON; which is complete bullshit. It sucks that he has no legal recourse; but outright stupidity like this really needs to be brought to light (as a lawsuit would no doubt do) to the rest of the world.
Can I please move to where you are located? I'm getting quite sick of everyone around these parts trying to shove FF down my throat. Whenever I'm playing any RPG and my friends come over it's always "FF this and FF that". It's like the RPG world is built only by Square round these parts and everything else is blasphemey.
I'll go ahead and add to that by saying that 90% of the FF are wildly overrated. There's just something about not changing your base gameplay until the 12th iteration that seems insanely wrong. That and all the fake "depth" that keeps bloating FF. Don't get me wrong, they're decent games; just not as spectacular as FF fanboys would have you believe; especially if you've experience true depth in any number of PC based RPG's. (Will these two [PC/Console RPG's] EVER LEARN from each other?)
I love me some Tactics though! Can't wait for the DS FFXII: Revenant Wings to get my strategin's on.
Not surprising, especially since the RIAA RECCOMMENDS that college students DROP OUT of school to pay their fines. At least the US government seems to be getting sick of the RIAA finally; hopefully we'll see the end to this type of crap from the RIAA soon when judges keep throwing their cases out of court.
About 5 years ago. While it's true that there's no one stop solution, with some poking around sourceforge you can easily replace every app that MS Office comes with (Save for PowerPoint; there may be some PP alternatives out there, but I never use PP anymore, Flash is much more effective for presentations at the expense of it taking slightly longer). Open source stuff is a little bit harder to come by than just normal freeware, though if you keep on digging you'll eventually hit gold.
"Sports titles and FPS's are two genres which I feel have never really taken off on handheld platforms, and the PSP has proven it can execute in these genres."
Is this guy smoking crack? FPS's are terrible on the PSP, which can be fully attributed to the lack of a second analog stick. Hell, even if they had just moved it to the other side of the machine it would have worked.
The only decent full aiming FPS I've played on a handheld was Metroid Prime Hunters; and that game wasn't spectacular by any means. Coded Arms wasn't horrible; until you factored in the control scheme. Same problem with CoD and MoH.
Adding a second analog stick would make me SO happy that'd I'd actually go out and buy a PSP (Been needing a portable movie player). Though adding a touchscreen too (Dare I wish?) would clinche it for me. Imagine! Browsing the net in a non retarded way on a Sony system!
Heh, that's intersting, as I love the S-type controllers. I could never hit just the black or white button on the old ones, and usually managed to mash both buttons at once. I actually found the older ones to be a bit uncomfortable after a long period of time (Unlike the SP and DC which was almost immediate).
Adulthood Maturity
Especially when one starts comparing the gameplay of one system to the graphics of another. Anyway, the most important aspect of a games system to me is "What games are fun?". Advance Wars DS, Age of Empires, and counteless other Strat games have kept me glued to my DS for months and months. If someone would just port MOO2 over to it, the world would never see me again.
I love FPS games as well, and I'm not willing to used bastardized PSP controls to play one. Pressing buttons to Aim up and down went out with the N64. It is NOT an acceptable replacement for an analog stick. While the analog emulation on the DS isn't perfect; it's better than acceptable, and makes FPS (IMO) far superior on the DS versus the Psp; regardless of graphics.
I already have a PS2, and besides 2 or 3 games that don't really interest me; most of the games on the PSP are ports of PS2 games that I already don't play. Though I'm sure a Front Mission game on the PSP would convince me to purchase one.
More likely the person in question has large hands. As much as I wanted the SP, I found I couldn't play it for more than a half an hour or so without some massive hand cramps, from clawing my huge paws around the tiny system. So I kept my original GBA. I had the same problem with the Dreamcast, though that was due to the extremely awkward trigger buttons (And D Pad)
Now that I think about it, I'm glad I never tried a GB Micro.
The DS-Lite fits in my mits perfectly, thankfully.
I say we do away with this terrible organization once and for all. They keep on screwing up over and over again, then point the finger squarely in the opposite direction. They (Meaning the suits at the ERSB) support those who are down on the gaming industry; and in essence helping keep the industry stifled. The ERSB likes to blame developers for what are very clearly PARENTAL CONTROL issues (There is NO reason you should buy your kid GTA. My parents only played solitare; but they knew enough to not let me play Doom or Mortal Kombat as a young 'un. This was before the ERSB existed by the way; and PC games had a FAR better rating system.)
Getting to my "ERSB Ratings Suck" rant; anyone remember the olde' Thermometer rating system that was featured on such classics as Duke 3D? Rating of 1-4 in the categories of; Drug Use, Sex & Nudity, Violence, and one or two others. Provided right next to the Rating (1 being Gratutious Violence or Sex, 4 Being Bikini's and Papercuts) was a breif description of WHY it had this rating. It was a thing of beauty. It had standards. (Unlike the MPAA's ratings which the ERSB ratings are based on; which seem to change year to year. [Full Frontal nudity in a Pg-13? Never though that would happen, then lo and behold, the MPAA changes it's standards{has to have Graphic Sex for R}])
Of course, the first step to doing all this (Making the ERSB mean something; cause it's a good idea, I'm not for censorship but rating something serves a purpose) is to actually get some people who know what the fuck they're doing. If they screw up, then they should take the blame, instead of shovelling it off on the developers.
Uh yeah; where were these "New Schools" of thought 8 years ago when the original GB was outselling (Even outsold the PS2; 118 million to 115 Million) everything? Portable systems outselling consoles isn't a new trend by any means. If there's anything to be surprised about, it should be that the GBA only sold about half the amount (69 mill) of the original GB. Granted the time between GB/GBA (GBC was a market test for the GBA) and the GBA/DS was roughly twice as long as well. There wasn't much growth in the handheld market (only about 5% if you do the figures).
The DS on the other hand, is making the handheld market EXPLODE. (New customer base! Hurrah!). I wouldn't be surprised
The DS has ALREADY sold more unit than the ENTIRE "Next Generation" (Aimed at the linked article in the/. post)
http://www.profane-justice.org/ Jesus! Just reading her site makes me think she suffers from MASSIVE Bi-Polar disorder. It's clearly biased crap (albeit about a good issue). The fact that she's attempting to sue archive.org is hilarious as well; considering you are technically required to ACCEPT the contract before you even see it.
Gold digging. Pure and simple; this bitch is pissed at the world; and apparently thinks the world owes her a great debt. Her "legal notice" looks suspiciously copy/pasted/edited as well. I wonder if she'll pay the person she stole it from $250,000 for using it. Of course, I'm afraid to quote her hilarious tag line for her contract; as I may get sued because I'm sure once she's seen how much we're ragging on her she's going to retaliate. She also lives in a world where email apparently never get lost either; and if it does, you have to pay again! Or if you contest the charges on your card after not recieving the mail; she demands DOUBLE the initial price. HILARIOUS!
Just cause I don't have a firewall doesn't mean I just let it go to hell. Besides, my ancient desktop is used for one thing, and one thing only. Playing games. If hackers want to steal my savegames or screw with the tiny HD, well I don't really care that much. All my good equipment is behind both software and hardware protection.
I still use 2K, so am I basically screwed on getting the DST right on my system? Or will there be a free patch for end users? I'm sure if I asked someone at M$ that, I'd get the response "Upgrade to VISTA"; which is NOT going to happen; my system doesn't need to be any slower thank you, it's already 5 years old.
I'm not too concerned (Hell, I don't even keep a firewall active on my home system; but that's) cause I don't do ANYTHING of value on it. Just wondering.
MIDDLEWARE my friend. Anyone who wants to use Havok on the Wii can, because Nintendo liscensed it as MIDDLEWARE. It's there, all you have to do is turn it on. No additional cost to the devs because it's part of the dev kit.
If that isn't built in, then I don't know what it is (Besides a physical physics co-processor, but we're still a year off from that.)

You must be using a broken internet or something, this is from page 1 of my google search. Or maybe it's because you misspelled HAVOK. Either way. Your "Stats" for the Xbox, Ps2, and GC are laughable as well. The Ps2 was the underdog in terms of power in the last generation. Deal with it; it's what happens when there's a delay of a year between competeing consoles. Obviously it didn't hurt as the PS2 easily kicked everyone elses ass in sales.
The Wii is only 1.5 to 2 times more "powerful" (The WORST term EVER BTW) than the game cube, which puts it at about 2 - 2.5x more "powerful" than the Ps2; which this is apparently being ported to (Unless that's a typo, but with the horrible PS3 sales, I wouldn't be surprised if they snubbed the Ps3 this time around and decided to do the Ps2 route.)
Are we also forgettting that Havok 3.0 also comes BUILT-IN to the Wii? No one gives it enough credit; true, it's not overpowered (I also need to remind you that just dialing up the quality to Hi-Def requires roughly 4 times the processing power that non hi def needs; not all that power is "for the games", alot of it is completely unusable to the developer, per se [can't be utilized by the dev as it's pre ordained for something else.]) But it's not 3 LED's hooked up to 2 AA's either. I STILL don't get why people think the Wii is only as "powerful" as a crappy toaster.
I read that wrong at first, I thought Fallout had been banned in the UK, which would make me sad.
Well, we could pull out the good old gemetically altered spuds.
Yeah, nice linking to an old article there.
