    The nice thing about a hybrid drive is that failure is graceful if the NAND dies, since it only holds copies of the data on the spinny disk. Other then that it is standard MTBF for spinnies.

    They dont blow. My momentus XT boots much quicker then a normal HDD. THey were a good idea if everyone had ran with it during this stop gap period. NOw the end is in sight.

    Nice to see someone actually leveraging the SSD for its strengths instead of lamenting its weaknesses. Who cares if they burn out faster, its totally worth it.

    Why do you need to store ALL your Steam games? Valve makes backing up and reloading games trivial.

    Thats what Network Storage is for. SSDs are meant to be treated like a hot rod. Hot and fast, but burns out faster. Still worth it.

    There are public safety issues at play in a device you carry with you at all times,devices that will live in our walls, our appliances, everything. Open Source is the cement, the steel beams that will hold up future information society, dont be so dismissive of its true importance. How are we ever going have a galactic computer if we allow art to determine what can and cant be done on a computer? We should get it right and not sell out for movies.

    I just hate how the entire open source-ness of google's stance revolves around commercial video. Its disgusting ot see how much of computing is being sold out for copyright. Abolishment is the only possible rational course from here on out.;

    People dont give a shit how a structurally sound a bridge is constructed either, only a tiny tiny % of its users do.. Just because only a few know enough to care doesnt change the argument. Very often it is the unpopular ideas that are correct.

    It shouldnt have been ever put in the pocket computer to begin with. If I want alerts on my POCKET COMPUTER, i will sign up for them. I swear to god everyone forgot all the stuff we learned in the 90s about computer security.

    I dont care about someone's missing kid in a world of SEVEN BILLION PEOPLE. Its jsut not a concern of mine at all. If it was, i would add notifications to my phone. That is the point, dont recruit me AND MY PROPERTY, i will come to you if the need arises.

    EXTREME over-reaching for the goal. The Amber alert crap should have never been put in the phone in the first place. If i want specific notifications, I WILL ADD THEM MYSELF using standard web services. The entire premise of this sort of system is to keep deep hooks into the phone that they can manipulate. I saw the alerts on the highway as I drove home last night, no need to override my pocket computer.

    Yes i realize that of course. Here is some clarification. Does it nag you because you dont have internet hooked up? Can you NOT see the links to the web services if you jsut use the TV normally or is it in your face?

    Its too easy to flip the script and call them lazy for not doing Android because its hard, and rightfully so. At PBS's level they can afford to find a design that works. Its is a little silly that PUBLIC BROADCASTING spends the most of its mobile development dollars on a locked platform.
