There is a vast difference between paying our government's bills and allowing them access to every transaction ever made. The method we have now is why we are trillions of dollars in debt and spend absurd money on the military.
I cant prevent Mint or Ubuntu from blanking the screen (shutting off the monitor) using the GUI. It requires several commands at the CLI for several programs and still doesn't work right. There is no way to change the behavior of the power button in GUI as well. These are just the roadblocks I ran into recently.
Try to make it so your screen wont blank using GUI tools.....go on, ill wait. Simple shit like that is what prevents me from using Linux as a desktop. The control panel is missing well over 50 elements compared to win or mac.
It is socially desirable because the plain fact is, the Federal government SHOULD NOT BE INVOLVED IN EVERY TRANSACTION. Every time money moves, the government gets a cut? WHY?
The ads on my PS3 NEVER played audio like the ones on 360 does. FURTHER, the only ads are from Sony themselves for GAMES. Xbox tried selling me old spice and red bull with ads that would blare if you happened to navigate over the element.
This argument no longer works. The time for reckoning is here. You cant shout NATIONAL SECURITY forever and expect a self-governing populace to put up with it.
Because you shouldnt have users doing things on what is essentially a server. Believe me, i tried it for YEARS. You dont want to have to reboot the machine because the UI hung while in the middle of a recording or conversion. My HTPC certainly has the hardware to do a ton of stuff, but running a user interface is not one of them.
I too prefer an x86 box as a media player. After I gave up on Tivo for being WAY overpriced for its functions, i built 3 x86 MCE boxes for my TVs. Still came out WAY cheaper then 3 Tivos, and no monthly fee.
Antec ISK 90 case with a Asus P8H61 mobo and a Celeron 1610 (Ivy Bridge). Works AWESOME. I have an i5 in the 'main' box for video conversion.
I have tried everything from Raspberry Pi to Boxee to Android crapsticks. NOTHING works as well or is as powerful as a Windows MCE box. Its the Rolls-Royce of media players. I know, because i tried everything else first.
Logic dictates that the government is my SERVANT, and we are its MASTER. Are you ok with other people deciding its ok to gather information about the populace without restriction? Because that is what is happening. Who is 'the government?' Is it not us?

Come back when you can pay taxes with it.
There are many cases of people having assets seized, found not guilty and they get nothing back.

At 40 I still run circles around most people, younger and older. I never understand the 'young tech' thing.
Who among the Founding Fathers would have argued that the King has the right to read everyone's correspondence?
Microsoft is not Valve. Lets not pretend they are even close to the same league of companies.

Your statement is exactly why i think we are gods.
Here is the thing. You dont want to record on the same device you WATCH on. I have learned this through 13 years of HTPC.
XBMC runs on ARM too........ The official XBMC 'device' is a Pivos android box.

Intel NUC is 4x4" and can do all that........The Haswell NUCS are going to be even better.
Your link doesnt address the 51% total CPU power flaw at all, which is what i was referring to.
Its exactly why i included the term. If I had the capital to do it, i might try to break bitcoin for funsies. I know I cant be the only one.

And your dismissal does not refute the underlying thought.
With enough CPU power and malice, i could destroy Bitcoin in its current incarnation.
They can see who he communicated with, they cant see WHAT he communicated. Thats the best you can possibly expect from public infrastructure.
Do i really need to explain how the 4th should be preventing the USPS from turning over logging records EN MASSE to law enforcement?
