You keep mentioning the software stack. MOST people with computers dont have $1000's invested in windows software (games being the notable exception). We have seen the end of windows as the de facto standard, its time you start realizing it.
Why would a desktop replace a mainframe? They fill very different roles and are only related by being computers. We dont replace Semis with Toyota Corollas
I fundamentally disagree. People want a computer that works. Ever increasing power is a dead end. Average people have no use for the supercomputers we have under our desks NOW. Dual core processor in the consumer space is because the chip companies couldnt go faster so they went wider, not for pent up demand for more power from the average joe.
I would hardly call 80 stream processors in Bobcat a huge leap in graphics. Call me when they pack 300 or more stream processors on die. The latest video cards have over 2000 stream processors.
Caps lock is worthless, context key i never use and I remove the windows key so I dont hit it while playing games. Since i refuse to pay $100+ (again) for a keyboard that includes a switch to turn the key off.
Just buy a USB number pad and call it a day. They cost $30 for wireless ones, i have one i used forever as a macro keypad for WoW rather then drop $100+ on the G15 keyboard.
There are LOTs of things that people could pay me for that I wont do. Windows 8 is now one of them. ITs the first MS OS that I dont feel compelled to learn because it will no longer be the absolute de facto standard in the future. The age of a windows only world is over, all they have left is inertia.
WRONG. Some people just do NOT parse differing interfaces. They learn what buttons they need to know and thats it. He recognizes the web browser icon and the Word icon and thats about it. He NEVER understands the interface in front of him, he just hunts for the familiar. He has no interest in learning the UI, only in accomplishing what he wants to get done.
To take is a bit further. We have arrived at the 'great enough' stage of computing. For most practical uses the differences between the HP and apple machine are truly minimal. Raw performance is ALMOST a secondary concern now.
I hate to point this out, but WE are the government. I really despise people who talk about government like its this disconnected entity. We THE PEOPLE, make up the government, it is your FELLOW MAN who seeks to enslave you, not some faceless 'government'.
The problem is, technically, only Apple makes compatible hardware. It takes tweaking even with almost exactly matching hardware to get OSX to run on non-apple gear.. ANd then you are never sure taht Apple is going to break your hackintosh in an update. Its alot of work to save a few bucks for the avg user. The only real use case for hackintoshes is using hardware that puts mac pros to shame.
Its sad that you defend the right to tell people what to do with information they purchased. At least Psystar pushed the envelope, what have you done to try and push back against unconscionable EULA terms?
Any idiot could mock this up, and hes using matlab instead of embedding everything. The turrets move when the 'real' portal turrets swivel at the base. In short this is a shitty turret tracking system with some bullshit plastic cutouts that look like ass to give the impression its a portal 2 turret. I was expecting something like the turret they have in Valve's office. What I got was a college pet project that looks like ass and functions worse.
The entirety of this argument rests on the word 'adequately'. It completely qualifies the rest of the sentence and makes the OPs point moot.
Obviously you dont understand the saying. People are far more often stupid vs malefic

"No bucks, no Buck Rogers."
'Unforeseen Consequences'. Get it right or I'll beat you with this crowbar.

Broken is the wrong word, it was intentionally crippled because of the media cartels.
I always disable the windows key or straight up remove it from the keyboard along with the context click button and caps lock.

This is wrong on its face. The people and the police are not of equal stature.

No the true and utter failure of G+ is that THEY REQUIRE YOU TO HAVE A GMAIL ACCOUNT. NO other social service forces you into a secondary email.
The law ITSELF is based on racist (and classist) moors.
" They no longer ship shrinkwrapped upgrades of OSX. You now have to buy it on the App Store and download it."
is wrong
