I use apple gear every day in my line of work (mostly the mobile stuff). They may be stylish, but they also PERFORM. So many of you marketing haters forget that their gear actually fucking performs, esp. in the hands of a skilled user. I hand built my own (very high performance) computers for over 15 years, yet im typing this on a store bought mac (screaming fast PC right next to it)...... Techies wouldnt buy the stuff if it didnt do work for them.
I totally agree. We have 2 PhDs in our family and I'm smarter then both of them combined. Great guys, good at what they do, but fucking shite for lateral thinking.
Do you not get that people like to fuck? Its an enjoyable pastime and can be used for good and ill. DO you think it logical to force another sentient being to bear a child it does not want? Further, where does your authority on this matter derive from? Im not talking about society's Im talking about YOU personally. Who in the fuck are you to make reproductive decisions for other sentient human beings?
Why? Its a fucking health service. Why should birth control be special from antibiotics when it comes to healthcare. Its a religious objection, flat out.
You do realize that 'cloud' is not synonymous with 'full backup procedure right'? Its main strength for backups is that it is OFFSITE. Cloud backup is an augmentation of an existing physical backup plan.
The problem is Apple rightly recognizes that your solution doesnt scale. When we all have 10,000 mp3s and 1000 movies in multiple resolutions , flat folder navigation just doesnt work.
Sort of true. If you want music that is part of the library on the device then yes, you are stuck with itunes, but thats not the only way to get media on a stock iOS device. I use a Synology Diskstation and their app and can load anything that is on the NAS onto my iOS device, the caveat being that all that data is only accesible by the DiskStation app (with the appropriate hooks for the built in apple media player). Even does Airplay no problem.
Im sorry you see the Library of Alexandria at your fingertips to be a mere source of entertainment. I live in the reality of my time, internet is VITAL to surviving in the modern era. Cant even file your taxes in the U.S. except online now. We arent talking about hypothetical post apocalyptic eras. Im fully aware of the PRIORITY SHIFTING that would occur if we entered a mad max scenario. Even then id be working on long range radio, re-establishing packetized data transfer, and start work on a library that can be easily shared as soon as more basic survival needs were met.
I qualified it with 'modern age' and prefaced it with implied shelter and then dashed it with bit of hyperbole. I didnt outright say it was a survival item but after heat, shelter, food, and love nothing else comes close.
Actually yes it is a big deal. After heat, internet is #1 need in the modern age. You can run a workstation, router and modem easily from solar. Maybe not all day, but enough to get a day of schooling in. I dont think you understand the importance of the internet in every home. EVERY HOUSE should have the option for affordable or free internet, its that important.
I think Tivo screwed the pooch by not including LOCAL streaming to its device. Im dumping my Tivo soon and switching to Xbox/MCE with CableCARD. No monthly fee($2 card rental), WAY better video conversion (Tivo 'highest' conversion setting is a crappy ipad resolution.) and streaming for everything. (with transcoding if needed). If they had jsut been able to make it stream to and from the device, I would own it forever, but all the nice streaming service integration on the Tivo is for naught if I cant also inject my own streams.
You pay overage or find another solution, is this I.T. 101? What does google do when they have overage? Or startup company X? No matter what you think you were sold, what you were actually sold remains at the discretion of your provider and can change at any time unless you have something other then a consumer grade connection. While i certainly dont agree, this is the reality we are now faced with. I can transfer 10 GB of TV a day from my in-laws house (we swap surveillance vids), all of it in-network on the same ISP, yet it still counts against my cap and theirs. I have to live with it and compress down to 4 GB a day.
Set a bandwidth quota at the router? manage your data at the source better? Allocate resources as needed? This isnt rocket science. You have a specific amount of X to use, meter accordingly.
I hate to break this to you, but all that is missing for apple to roll their own 'console' is controllers. AppleTV + ipad 2/3 or iphone 4s = apple gaming console NOW. Steam + Apple would be a hardcore stab at MS.
Im talking about real evil deeds MS did to strangle the competition and stifle innovation at a time when there was no choice at all in business. You are talking about things Google hasnt even done. MS is a convicted monopolist, google doesn't even HAVE a monopoly in the legal sense, even in search. Microsoft had over 90% of the world's computer running its OS at one point in time and no viable competition. Google barely has 2/3 of the search market and the competition is poised to consume them if they falter in the slightest. But keep on beating that 'google is da debil' drum.
Even scientific belief is faith. I dont go out and measure the sun myself, i dont know for sure that its nuclear powered. I have faith that science is telling the truth.

all words are made up. Muggle is a valid word. It will be in the dictionary someday because people use it.

Stop waiting and just plain dont use DLNA. It is totally useless.

Ahem....you do know the 3.5" floppy standard design was referenced from the Sony design right?
If someone handed me LOTR and said direct it, Id probably do the work now and sue later too.

You were doing so well too, right until you slid off the edge at the end.
Nothing 'proto' about it. My wife simply doesnt understand why i wont subject myself to it.
