I can see how you might mod this troll if you hate hippies, but really, you're not supposed to mod down just because you like Glenn Beck. In all fairness, it's a pretty accurate description of most of Beck's logical fallacies.
That's true, but they could, in theory, dump a significant portion of those bonds onto the open market at any time, thereby devaluing them (and the dollar) greatly, possibly to the point of collapse. Of course, this would cause their own economy as much harm as the US's, so this version of "calling in the loan" seems unlikely.
He said it costs Nike $5.30 to make it, not that Nike charges $5.30 + tax when they sell it. Do you see Air Jordans going for $5.30 in the US?
His point was that because of the high import tax, the exchange rate, and low income of the average citizen, it costs much much more in real money in Brazil to buy a Nike sneaker than it does in the USA.
He thought the summary said "Obama announced on August 31st...." - thereby making it seem like slashdot is reporting a quote that has yet to happen. But as he said, he missed the word "that".
It's just hard to take your prediction seriously when your last prediction went something like this:
"Doesn't really matter the iPad is an iKaboom, it just wont work. All the sales, marketing and forum hype (could apple trolls be considered maggots) are not gonna get that platform moving. Likely the iPad will just end up damaging the 'i'Apple branding, remind everyone of overbearing iDRM and iClosed, rather than being an open and flexible device. I can't help but feel the iPad will be Jobs, iSwan song. "
I think you're confusing the GP's "technophobe" with "technophile". A technophobe would certainly use Sirius XM - it's extremely user-friendly these days, and although it may not be CD-quality, it certainly sounds better than FM, which is good enough for 95% of the population.
I think it was quite clear that he was satirizing the OP that said we shouldn't let everyone vote, since shooting (killing) the person who holds that opinion would clearly take away their ability to vote.
Yes, I would gladly let every youtube commenter and conservative radio host speak to everyone in exchange for the callers into conservative radio shows not being allowed handguns and automatic weapons.
While that's true, it has nothing do with the OP's equivalency of Android and the iPhone software. He didn't even say iPhone, he said Apple's "made some good decisions in the past decade, especially with regard to simplifying their product lines." Which is true. The fact that Apple put their software on just an iPhone and and iPod Touch has been a winning strategy for them. You being able to put their software on other devices is kind of irrelevant; in fact, one could argue it would confuse consumers more and make the iPhone software MORE like Android.... which, as the original point goes, is available on a vast variety of different phones and that could end up working against it.
I respectfully request that you support your statement that "people keep moving there because they can actually afford to live in the South" by making yourself one of those people.
I went to Burning Man in 99 and 2000. At the time, a bunch of people were complaining that "Man, Burning Man today isn't what it was. Now it's all corporate and shit."
Actually the DMV in NJ is really fast now; has been since they overhauled it about 6,7 years ago. I also remember that when I first got my license it really sucked, but that doesn't mean it can't be run well. Obviously there's at least one state's DMV that figured out how to make things run more efficiently. If your state's isn't as smooth, maybe you should elect a new governor.
My point is, just because the government's going to run universal healthcare, doesn't automatically mean it's going to suck.
and at least 10 different local companies (who also sell built to spec PCs, sans OS if I want).
Not exactly. I'm casual friends with a guy who co-owns one of those local shops. They do sell built-to-spec PCs. They're basically forced to sign a contract with MS that states that if they sell PCs with Windows on them, than EVERY pc they sell will have Windows on it. In other words, they're not allowed to sell PCs with no OS or with only Linux pre-installed. Micrsoft says "You wanna sell PCs with no OS? No problem. But you won't be getting OEM copies of Windows from us. Good luck."
I'm just saying, if you're a local shop that plays by Microsoft's rules, it's not as easy as you think to get people PCs with any alternatives. Sure, you could blow off that particular rule, at your own peril.
Why isn't this modded funny?
Hilarious. Mods take my advice and mod up the GP from Troll to Insightful.... and another mods me Troll.
Sometimes I wonder about my fellow Slashdot readers. Then I realize that's a complete waste of time.

Troll??? C'mon, he was obviously trying to be funny. I chuckled. Get a sense of humor, mods.
Easy to fix! Let's take away cars from 5/6 of our population, and we'll be right there with China!
In more ways than one.

Actually I get Verizon DSL (without the usually-attached phone line) for $15/month. They call it bare-bones service or something like that.

Yeah, that oil in the US and Alaska should last us at least, what, 5 years or so? Plenty.
On a side note, I hadn't realized that Alaska finally seceded. Thank god for your knowledge of foreign and domestic issues.

Are all of them really thinking of switching to iPhone? That's hard to believe.
Is it?

You said that 6 months ago. Good call!

Pisanos?
I'm suddenly reminded of something about wireless nomads, and the word "lame", but I can't quite put my finger on it.....

It's better than the 5-10s of action for 90 minutes of the closest thing to inaction.
And that's if you're lucky enough to not be watching a 0-0 game.
