No, when I enter into an agreement with AOL, I agree to pay a certain amount of $/unit of time in exchange for access to their network. I do not agree to be bombarded with bandwith hogging ads, especially when they cut into my time and hinder me from surfing somewhere else all the while being charged time to view the ads.
Napster is getting worse and worse as the days go by. Now, I understand that they are a business and theat they must protect themselves legally (Metallica/Dr.Dre) and their marketing image and trademarks, but to sue someone "on their side" is insane. They are just pissing off everyone, fans, RIAA, Bands. Who's going to be left to want to use their product when Napster begins charging for their service, which I know is comming up soon. Mark my words.
To be fair and give them the benefit of the doubt, perhps they asked The Offspring to stop and they refused. Anyways, GNUtella will get the same job done and you will never have any problems with a corporation behind it.
Come on. Keep dreaming. Linux is a horrible choice for the average office worker unles he/she is a programmer or other type developer. And Star Office is no better in terms of usability, etc.
The military would need to use an American product for national security reasons. Wouldn't want rouge programmers creating all sorts of trojans, backdoors and other viruses that could shut down the networks, especially during a war. This is not to say it could happen right now...
I think that it is a good move on Canada's part. MS is a succesful company which would bring untold amounts of cash into the local economies and great revenue into their tax system. If the US is going to abuse and pick on a company, then I feel that a company should up and leave if it so chooses. I like MS, they have some good products, and even though I don't agree with some of it's business practices, feel that they should go somewhere where they are appreciated. I bet though, that it you were to conduct a study into the cost of relocating a company as large as MS, it would be astronomical (near a google dollars), and which is why MS will remain in Redmond.

If this dosen't work, I'm a real jackass and i won't release a v4.0 comment.
I'll be the fist to admit it. I like getting my music, software, etc for free. Who dosen't? Although it was a brave thing for Metallica to try and stand up to Napster, they alienated their fans and will not stop the MP3 movement. I don't care if record sales are hurt.
I do believe that MP3's must be hurting sales numbers, but I don't buy into the fact that for every MP3 downloaded = lost revenue becuase there are a ton of MP3's that I have that I have downloaded that I wouldn't have bought if I didn't DL the MP3.
Although it's interesting to see an academic body offer a lot of cash to solve these problems, they're asking the wrong crowd. The people who have a shot at solving these problems are probably the same people who are offering the cash. If they can't do it, how could the non-mathematicians do it? There are no Will Hunting's out here.
Turn it into an embedded internet OS. Turn it into a seperate cross-platform/archeticture OS. Sell it to the sperate OS manufacturers (which will re-ignite the browser market). There are so many opportunities.
The CEO of Sun once said to Congress that there's only one things he'd like to own other than Windows- the English language. Well, I'd be happy to own either of those, or one other- IE.
But officially appealing to Napster involved giving out your true name, home address, etc., and that's more than I need them to know without them doing a little digging to get it. Besides ,according to copyright law according to copyright law, even though Napster had to remove the users, if the user appealed, Napster has to give Metalica your info, and Metallica has to sue you (and every other user) individually. If by the end of 10 days Metallica does not sue you, the Napster must reinstate you.
Or if you could quickly boot into an MP3-only player, or a DVD-only player. I would love a quick boot up time for when I just want to watch a movie or listen to some music.
It's this simple- the biggest challenge to getting major companies to produce games on Linux is.. MORE LINUX DESKTOPS! That's it.
As a game company, I'm creating games to make money, and since there are WAY more Windows machines out there, that's where the money is and is going to be made for the forseeable future. Until Linux captures a huge portion of the home market, and as of right now, that's not going to happen, we will continue to play our future Quake 4's 5's, etc on future Windows desktops like Windows ME.
Unless you can show Joe Homeuser that Linux will be a great gaming platform and will offer such and such and advantage over Windows, there is no incentive for Joe Homeuser to switch to Linux, and hence, no reason for game publishers to spit out he games.
Plus, you need the hardware manufacturers to support Linux also, which should be easier to do, reducing the chicken and egg problem you have right now.
They DON'T let copyright infringers use their service. As soon as a user is identified as a violator (a la Metallica and Dr. Dre) they pull you off.
I think it's hilarious

It's not his fault that he got DDOS'ed. I'm sure that he didn't plan on it, and yes it sucks that he got DDos'ed, but it's not right to be punished.
MSN's homepage and Hotmail. Both suck unless you have VB turned on.
There is a link below that say's "this is more informative"
Do not click it as it will auto-post itself to this page and it is very annoying. I see like 20 posts already.
I only put this up here becasue it is a prominent place on the page and hopefully you will see this before you click on the link.

there's no law that says that I must protect my data. I checked.
