I was a mouse-gesture user for quite some time. But since the Firefox implementation caused some serious memory leaks I had to abandon using them. I don't know if they fixed it yet.
LG needs a license to manufacture dual-standard equipment. Sony thus far has a firm grip on Blueray unwilling to let it go. So we probably won't see dual-standard for quite some time.
Software in this case probably means Firmware.
As discussed previously firmware is a much cheaper alternative to specialised hardware. Besides it is more flexible than hardware.
