It would be similar if Hondas: 1. cost money while Toyotas were free 2. crashed and/or made wrong turns more often than any other cars 3. had a declining monopoly on the market 4. Honda and Hyundai were two of the three largest companies on Earth.
Linux is the only platform with really one click installation. Just open the package manager and click on the application you want to install.
Windows, on the other hand, requires you to first find the website, download the installer, and click "Next" and "Accept" several times. I still don't understand why people consider this an advantage on the Windows side.
But is that the correct thing to do? So we should just ignore Google's blatant violation of GPL?
The correct thing to do is respect the opinion of the people who have the copyright. If they say it's OK, then it's OK. It's as much a violation as entering a house after its owner allows you in.
The desktop should not be a widget, gadget, or any other form of "app" because it's the desktop. It's supposed to take priority.
And by "the desktop" you probably mean "a folder". I don't know about you, but my real wooden desktop doesn't look like a folder at all. Instead, it's filled with post-it notes, pencils, sometimes a notebook, a computer, a phone, a lamp and a Rubik cube. In short, it's filled with gadgets.
Privatize the profits, socialize the losses. Isn't that the USA's motto?
It's not a loss when the money goes to human beings. It's only a loss when the money goes to corporations.
People are worth government spending.
Still, consider the two scenarios: 1. The student pays his debts. The bank makes a profit. 2. The student doesn't pay his debt. The government takes the loss. In any sane system, the same entity should carry the profit and the possibility of loss. However, in this case, (private) banks only get the profit, without having to risk anything. In other words, they are being paid for nothing. And from what I read in this thread, they are being paid quite well.
And if you are lucky, you live somewhere in Europe, get quality education for free while earning money during the summer, and finish school with no debt.
If all the US American soldiers will go, who will search for WMD? And who will implement democracy in the Iraq? I thought you guys attacked the Iraq because they had WMD and besides that you wanted democracy for the poor people of the Iraq.
If that's a "marketing trick", every show is a "marketing trick".
And what did you think all those shows were?
I'm allergic to giving money to corporations that sponsor bills like SOPA.
Do you have a reference for that?
You want a doctor's note? Or would a violent unexpected sneeze be enough?
May not have been much of a movie, but it seems it got many predictions right.

In every case, the lawyer is the only person who could possibly win!

I think (or at least hope) that GP was joking, he's trying to say that SaaS is the same as webapps, only buzzword compliant.
And turtles.

I now own the concept of showing an eggplant on the back of a camel.
Great Steve, when did you come back?
Yeah and software are pretty much like ideas too, so lets go and patent ideas. Ideas can be reduced to a mathematical algorithm for sure ;P
Ideas are more powerful than software. We would not let the 99% have software, why should we let them have ideas?

Why should banks make a profit on student loans. If the government can guarantee them, then they can just hold the loans themselves .

Correct Fact: People in metric countries actually talk in km/h.
Slashdot article readers and Slashdot article commenters are two disjoint groups. However, this does not imply that the first group must be empty.
You don't have to, unless you're from South Carolina yourself.
