No you are considered employed because you are employed. Which you are.

There is so much ignorance in regards to how unemployment is tabulated on Slashdot it's pretty astounding (generally, the ignorance of Slashdot is pretty astounding altogether).

But anywho, yes if you're a 90k executive and you get layed off and get a 10/hour cashier job, you're considered employed. However, that doesn't mean that your drop in pay won't be noted. The BLS does other surveys, such as wage and salary survey, and monthly they put out a wage gain/loss statistic along with unemployment.

  4. Re:Get a Democratic President on Tech Employment Drops Sharply In 2004 · · Score: 1

The president is only one branch of government, it's the legislature which by design has more impact on policies.

There are so many external factors when it comes to employment and the economy that trying to draw a correlation between any two pretty much just shows your own ignorance.

  5. Please don't ruin Craiglist. on Craigslist Eyed for Possible Future IPO · · Score: 3, Interesting

Craigslist has pretty much made moving to a new city bearable, and I didn't have to put up with the commericial bullshit on other sites. If Craigslist dies (which it would were this to happen), I would be willing to invest my time in creating a new non-commercial craigslist-ian type site so I could give back what it gave to me.

I'm not kidding either, I got my current job through Craigslist and my apartment. I didn't get any responses from any of the crappy commercial job posting sites and the apartment results sucked from other sites.

Anyone willing to make a new craigslist when (it's only a matter of time, let's be realistic) craigslist either dies or kills itself (IPO).

I dunno about anyone else, but I got pretty worried when they expanded to new cities, I figured the more exposure it got, the chances of it becoming commercial became greater and greater.
