I have had 3 blackouts in my neighborhood since the summer. The first one was the big blackout, the other two were due to highway construction hitting underground power cables. On the other hand we've had several big wind storms and haven't lost power. Just an anecdote but YMMV.
Well also, outsourcing doesn't mean offshoring. It simply means hiring another company to do work that your company used to do for itself. They could be located anywhere.
Well, you shouldn't expect Congressmen to be experts about the internet, really. Although seeing as they're passing laws about it they should at least know something.
Well, I partially agree with you. The US is a nation of excess and we have a hard time living within our means, this is why we have such a nasty trade deficet.
On the other hand it's very, very difficult to save up enough money so you can last for even a few months, especially if you consider the cost of getting sick.
So I agree with your premise but disagree that getting rid of the safety net is a good idea.
I think public schools are a mess and could use a lot more competition. I do like public lands, and I think "the safety net" is relatively silly.I agree with you on public schools however I don't find the safety net silly, seeing as how I might have to depend on it if I get laid off.
With their hysteria I think that the central message gets deluded... that this is a bit of a conflict of interest. There is proof of any wrongdoing but yes it is a conflict of interest, but Slashdotters continually make themselves look stupid.
I think this is one of our strongest (and most secret) strengths... the decentralization of power. Imagine trying to run the affairs of 300 million from DC? Plus it makes it much harder for one single party to gain power. However, even decentralization has it's problem and since that constitution guarantees that each state must be a republic, I would say that the federal government has some oversight powers per the constitution.
-Libertarians believe that public school is socialism. -Libertarians don't seem to like public parks (or public anything) -Libertarians want to get rid of the safety net. -They're just k00ks in general.
You figure, if you could get a company to deny all traffic from a specific country... maybe they'd be more willing to hire domestic folks. Or, even better, threaten to ruin companies if they offshore.
The US education system is underfunded? We spend twice on it as we do on defense, and that's just federal expenditures. We spend more than just about any nation out there, with the exception of Korea I think, and get mediocre results. Check you facts before you post ignorance.
The whole point with the electoral college is that there is *no* contest after an election, which guarantees a speedy election. The president is whoever the elector votes for, end of story. 2000 went against the constitution.
Paper trail... we need a paper trail. I mean I hate to sound like the collective mindless Slashdot hoard but the paper trail is essential. It doesn't guarantee an absence of voting fraud but it just makes it harder.
Your logic is flawed. Time magazine runs quite a few negative article about Bush and his administration, why would they pull just this one? And it isn't news that Bush the Elder didn't want to go into Iraq, he even said in his book that he didn't want to face an insurgency etc. etc.
By everyone do you mean countries? 'Cause personally I censor things I don't like on the internet all the time. I put people on 'ignore' in IRC, I killphile obnoxious USENET posters, I have a slashdot limit on -1 posts.
Self-censorship makes it easier for us not to enact censorship by the government.
Well things are done differently here. We have truth in advertising standards here, but you actually have to take the initiative in filing suit. How many truth in advertising lawsuits are successfully litigated here I dunno.
People always want the government to be their mommy and do all the work for them.

The 21st century is only 3 years old, give it a little time.

You comment proves my sig. :)

-Libertarians don't seem to like public parks (or public anything)

Buying bonds is not foreign aid. Go read up on civics.
National debt? We have public debt which is owned by anyone who wants to buy it. We have consumer debt which is owned by banks.

The US doesn't receive any foreign aid to my knowledge.
No, as a matter of fact we often let illegal immigrants vote here.

Be careful because they are bringing in (or trying to) electronic voting machines into CT. I think Southington was the first town to use them.
Well, you have to bring up charges. The government cannot check every single ad that exists.

Folks, not every move by a (liberal) magazine such as Time is because of the Bush cabal and their black helicopter enforcers.
Well... no one here in the US is facing jail over downloaded music to my knowledge. Not that litigation is much better.
