  1. You had me at Amazon Discounts books on Android, Chromecast To Get HBO Now · · Score: 1

Seriously, so very glad I bothered to read GoT and complete the main books rather than committing to the HBO series. Those silly fucktarts are going off in all sorts of directions with the story and none of that shit is going to correspond to any of the novels. Plus Emilia Clarke doesn't want to show her boobs anymore or do any of the sexy in-book story lines, so HBO can give away their service for free, I'll save my time for reading. When I want to watch a movie, I have all my favorites in my own online lib and cheap media players already. Why is there even an HBO to bother me? Because they fund the shows? I'll pay directly to the producers for a good show and cut out the middle-man content barons. HBO doesn't make shows, people do. And sometimes we don't like a show, but we have to pay for it anyway with the fucking TV package "deals" where I get 90% shit channels and 10%(or less typically) I bother to put in my custom guide. All online, direct access media channels that I get to pick and choose myself and ignorant asshole don't make decisions about the level of maturity and bad taste within said shows? I'm all in for that! It cannot happen to quickly. Fuck Dish and Concrap and HBO and NBC and Dice and CBS and that guy who hates video games and Emilia Clarke and Verizon you too fuckers and AT&T and Hulu and Netflix and the rest! I will beat all of your execs to bloody piles of pulp and bone fragments with my largest dictionary or other suitable hard-bound volume of written works!!1!

  2. Apparently not. There was a recent article about some kind of medical pump with a network connection for "ease of use" but it was a huge security hole with direct root access to the device. And with the unknown quantity of the local hospital's IT staff, who the hell knows what kind of security nightmare is brewing in there?!

No, the medial community is blissfully unconcerned with real-world Internet and Intranet security when it comes to "new," "fancy," ultra-modern equipment that will jack up the fucking medical charges they can apply to unwitting(all) patients. HIPPA merely protects personal medical info, it does not protect life in case of a network-connected medical device error or breach. Possibly covered under the normal medical practices guidelines, but then how do these types of aforementioned devices get inside a hospital in the first place? Probably expensive kick-backs, freebies, or vacations for the hospital execs and administrators to "try this new device!" People usually end up dying before the facts and procedures are examined in detail and rectified.

  3. Exactly!

Ever try and get AT&T or any other big carrier to listen to you while you explain in detail how their "bullet-proof service" is down and needs to be fixed? They have no fucking clue! How about if the PO has a problem and they think you're trying to get free data connections? No, nothing short of home-running a private, extendable to 24,000 miles, "bullet-proof", tamper-proof, Ethernet cable with an infinite:1 s/n ratio will be good enough for me. Thanks, but I'll go with the local surgeon for now. Let the early-adopters try this out.

Did he need to discover some comets or asteroids and get them named after him to reach the "high bar" in your own mind?

Get reading some science books and DO something with your fucking life other than to bitch about a great nation that is filled with cool services that you probably do not take advantage of, or better yet claim "those other people are stealing your benefits!" Fucking grow the fuck up, take responsibility for the fucking mess that is your life and read some fucking books other than the bible for once in your miserable existence. You are not fit to smell NDGT's shit. You fucking ignorant asswipe.

Fucking science deniers are the cancer of our great nation and our world. Fucking backwards dipshits with zero info want to rework science to fit their fucked up views. What a sad bunch of assholes. Proper science is self-correcting and reproducible via peer studies. Fake science is easily discounted. But don't tell these asshats that. You have some reasonable skills. I'll second the guy who said to learn Python. Shell and Perl are awesome and get the job done, but Python is super nice to work with and has a ton of features and less-ugly syntax. Anyway, management is an option as described above, but if you're like me you like to build stuff and make the solutions happen. Freshen up your resume, copy the style of other "hipster" applicants, to a certain degree, you know what I mean. Then market yourself with multiple resumes in the fields you are sharp in; web app management, sys admin, Linux. I'll bet you know enough about securing a web app to become a web-centric security person, and those security jobs are going to get hot, if you don't mind the risk involved. Yeah you could be a software dev, a web admin, a manager of all that, Linux admin, you probably know enough about networking to be a senior net admin. Don't even fret about the no college or no certs. Both of those are nice to have, but better to have the real skills to do the real work.

Personally, I'm at the top of my field and can basically ignore job come-on and target big players directly. But don't be afraid to do some contracting. There are TONS of contracting companies out there, and most of them are desperate to get anybody to work for them. Just make sure the fit is right for you. Name your salary, NEVER low-ball yourself. You have the skills to pay the bills, as the kids say. I look way younger then I am, but I don't hide my wealth of old-school knowledge. I routinely outclass much younger applicants and take the job. Usually with one interview. Take your skills and become the star that you are.

BTW, you owe me $15 for this session. See you next week! ;)
