  1. Too logical... on WV Voters Say Machines Are Switching Votes · · Score: 1, Troll

That's because computers can't tell the difference. Terrorcrat 1 or terrorcrat 2 makes no difference to the voting machine. Losses abound either way.

  2. Re:Indubitably, morons on Openmoko's Open Source Phone Goes Mass-Market · · Score: 1

Actually, the devices HAVE begun shipping to the EU resellers. Linux Devices has pulled their article because it was incorrect regarding the processor speed and screensize. The physical devices are in transit, the red tape and contracts have been done for a while. :)

  3. Re:'Merica on Openmoko's Open Source Phone Goes Mass-Market · · Score: 3, Informative

Right now, Openmoko is shipping devices to the Eu resellers. By the time the resellers get the devices, the American shipping hub in Fremont, CA should be stocked. You'll then be able to buy the Freerunner from direct.openmoko.com. There's no official date, but so far it's looking like the first week of July.

  4. No surprise there... on US Lags World In Broadband Access · · Score: 1

The only thing shocking about this articles is that people still believe America is the best at ANYTHING. The dollar gets stomped by the pound, Canada has a much higher level of homeownership, the EU has a higher rate of education among citizens... Note, when I say this, I've been an American citizen, born of American citizens, all my life. The problem with America is our politicians forget that they're voted in by people, not corporations, but they cater to them almost exclusivly when passing laws. Lack of competition, lack of interest for investment and lack of social pressure is exactly why fibre is JUST taking a hold here. Nations like Japan and Korea have had fibre for a long time. Something else that this study may or may not take in to account is the term "broadband" or "high-speed". In the US, anything faster than dial-up (56K) is "broadband" where Canada considers 1.5 symetrical to be that. If we were to use that measurement, the US would rank even lower.

  5. Law Enforcement on Is DRM Intrinsically Distasteful? · · Score: 1

Quite simply, there is no such thing as tasteful DRM. Even IF it prevented ONLY illegal copies, that is still a freedom that is being taken away from the user. I'm an American, often criticized for my stance on gun ownership by my international friends. To me, it has nothing to do with guns themselves, but rights. Even a stupid right is still a right, and I am appauled when they're threatened, or simply trampled over. The same with DRM. It is the place of law enforcement, NOT media corporations, to enforce the penalties for violation of the law. If people were being detained in Wal-Mart by the blue vested employees because they have hands and "could commit theft against us", that would raise alarms that would set the most conservative people aflame. The **AA has no right to restrict me or anyone else, in any way shape or form, even IF I should choose to violate the law. And not until there is proof I've comitted a crime, and I've been given due process of the law, should my rights be taken from me.
