  1. Puppy Linux on Ask Slashdot: Easiest Linux Distro For a Newbie · · Score: 1

My favorite has always been Puppy Linux. Great for the beginner. puppylinux.org.

  2. Re:Terrorist Group? on Lighthearted Facebook Friends Could Make You Join NAMBLA Group · · Score: 1

You need to work on your abstract reasoning: Just because the example of shenanigans happing IRL is of NAMBLA, doesn't mean that the NAMBLA group is the only one in all of facebook that allows your friends forcing you into groups. In fact, they all do. Including all of the fake terrorist groups people make as a "joke".

I was not confused, I said the summary could be misleading/confusing. Since you seemed to miss it, here goes - #sarcasm. +1 for pendants. I was in the 97th percentile on the verbal section of the GRE. Was that clear enough of a statement for you?

  3. Terrorist Group? on Lighthearted Facebook Friends Could Make You Join NAMBLA Group · · Score: 1

I admit that wanting to molest pre-pubescent boys is reprehensible, but how is it terrorism? The summary is misleading. That being said, even if they fix this problem, another will come up. Every time you think you have idiot-proofed a system, someone builds a better idiot.

I was going to suggest this. The example in wikipedia may be distracting, but then if you are printing your email in a 72pt font, you have issues anyways. I have used ecofont, and at the 12pt, you can not see the holes.

  5. Re:Save your money on Any Suggestions For a Meaningful Geeky Wedding Band? · · Score: 1

I love my titanium ring. In addition to being a geek, I am a motorhead with scars on every knuckle. Of all the rings I have owned over they years, this is the only one that is still round. If you are looking for a great meaning, titanium is flexible but maintains its integrity when repeatedly tested. It is also inexpensive, so you can afford to spend your money on her ring. Right now, Iridium is $450 an ounce. Then you have to find someone willing to work with it and pay them handsomely for it. This is no abstraction, since due to its extreme hardness and brittleness, iridium is difficult to machine, form, or work. Once you have it made, getting your hand slammed in a door might make it break rather than bend. This might be good for your finger, but makes your effort for naught. A good titanium ring will set you back less than $200, and still be in good enough shape for your grandkid to wear when he get married. If you have a little extra cash laying around, have a custom diamond made with some of your own carbon (your hair, please don't have yourself creamated) by a place like LifeGem, Phoenix Diamonds, or Algordanza. Prices start around $4,000. When I got engaged, I used a diamond I had inherited for her ring. I was surprised at how relatively inexpensive very nice settings were when you brought your own diamond to have set in it.

  6. Gcomprix, Xubuntu, and Puppy on What To Do With Old Laptops? · · Score: 1

I have done three things with old laptops. One I loaded Xubuntu (xubuntu.com) on for my kids to play with. They are too young to realize that it is really slow. Another is I downloaded Gcomprix, which is a live CD of the educational suite Gcompris. Gcomprix will run on dang near anything, and again, the kids love it. (http://nathguil.free.fr/gcomprix.iso) The last thing I have done is loaded Puppy Linux (puppylinux.com)on it. Puppy is a live CD that is less than 100MB, so it can run in RAM in most old machines. Puppy will run from PC cards, CF cards, flash drives, and Zip drives. You can also do a HD install with it. I have resurrected computers that others have written off. Puppy is awesomely fast and easy to use. It has every program the basic user would use.
