  1. Nothing Special on Top Student Charged With Fixing Grades For Cash · · Score: 1

At least not in my opinion. My buddy did the same thing when we were in high school about 6 or 7 years ago. Booted up in Linux, copied the SAM file over, cracked it at home. Did it a few times until we found one that the administrator account had logged into. He was never caught until the end of the year because we decided to pull a prank and change the standard wallpaper for all the student accounts to this http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/7629/gib.png. He was caught because as it turns out, the system was setup to capture screenshots of anyone logged in every 10 seconds, combined with the fact that he signed in to the library to use the computer, they were able to catch him. I don't think they ever found out about changing some grades, but I'm not sure about that.

  2. I guess I'm a minority on DRM-Free Game Suffers 90% Piracy, Offers Amnesty · · Score: 1

I actually bought both Machinarium and World of Goo. Good games, kinda makes me sad to read this article though.

ps3 games arent on piratebay because noone has figured how to break the ps3 encription yet, not because sony got anything right in their sales model. In fact MS was first with the DLC and minigames thing.

I would also argue that PS3 using BluRay for their games would have an impact on that as well, even if the encryption were broken. Speaking on behalf of myself anyways, burning dvds would be far cheaper and more convenient.

  4. Re:The End of this Format War? on Paramount to Drop Blu-Ray for HD-DVD · · Score: 1

The end result is obvious: eventually every player is going to be pushing drives that handle both high-capacity/high-def formats as well as DVD and CD, much like we saw with DVD-R vs. DVD+R. I agree though: this has been the only good news on HD-DVD's side in a while. Don't forget built in USB port, card reader, on board hard drive for tivo, network access for streaming, and an RF remote so I can walk out of the room and change tracks if I need to. Did I miss anything?
  5. Re:I smell a new market on Voice Chat Can Really Kill the Mood · · Score: 1

No one used the Xbox voice masking because it quite frankly sucked. Half the time you either couldn't understand the person, or as stated above, it became annoying very quickly. If developers actually made one that didn't sound so fake and cheesy, younger people, and frightened old ladies might actually use it and not be shunned for it.

  6. Starting from scratch? on Vista Upgrades Require Presence of Old OS · · Score: 1

So, say I want to build my own computer from scratch. Am I going to have to buy a copy of XP and Vista, just so i can install Vista? Or am I going to have to wait for them to eventually release versions of Vista that can be installed without an existing OS present?

  7. Re:Canada. on How Can We Convert the US to the Metric System? · · Score: 1

As many people have pointed out, we Canadians use both systems despite being metric.

Example: I use feet to measure my height or short distance, but i use kilometers for long distances

Most of it was picked up from my parents, who were taught in the Imperial system. But that's been mentioned several times I'm sure, so i won't get too far into that. I did, however, want to mention industry, as I am currently working my towards becoming an electrician. I have already been told that I will have to get used to converting between the two systems because, our friends and neighbours to the south use Imperial. We buy materials in feet and inches, yet all our laws and building codes use metres and centimetres. We use both systems just fine, but I'm sure if the US converted, we would most likely see Imperial measurements slowly phase out.

While were at it though, what about spelling?

i.e. meter vs metre, grey vs. gray? :)
