I worked with a guy in the 80's who had a side business making diamond grinding compounds for customers in the bay area - he would pre-load his secret mixture into grease-guns he bought at Sears. They were single use, he told me. I don't remember why, something about screwing up the seals, or maybe a used grease gun put contaminates in the grinding goop... anyhow he made really good money at it for some reason, there must have been more to it than meets the eye. He was a retired nuclear physicist, so he knew what he was doing, when it came to small particles. Dude! I know this guy, you and I have so totally worked in the same meth lab!
I believe the existence of Microsoft may have helped Google become successful. Do you think the slogan "Don't be evil" would have even been thought up if a company like Microsoft was not the market leader?
Further Microsoft helped by doing a horrible job whith their own web services, like hotmail and the rest of the MSN network.
Let me tell you 'bout my friend in Holland. And, no, I don't mean Holland, Michigan. I mean Holland, Holland.
He pays some ridiculous amount of money monthly, 10 or 20 Euros, and gets high speed broadband, TV (including the porn channels) and phone. His mortgage is 3.8%. Sex of any kind is not against the law and he can travel to any country in the EU without even slowing down as he drives across the border. At the risk of going off topic, do I need to add that health care and education are free.
Could it be that there's something not quite right here in America? Maybe that could that explain the somewhat puzzling behavior manifested by about 30% of the americans I talked to while traveling the US. They asked where I was from, I answered and then, with a dreamy look in their eyes they asked med how close to Amsterdam that was, never Holland or the Netherlands, just Amsterdam.
It was as if they believed it was a place good people went when they died.
Second, warrantless wiretaps are and will always be legal (and constitutional) when both ends of the communication are outside the United States, not American citizens, and no part of the communication is routed electronically through the territorial US What about the violating the laws of the countries where these wiretaps are made?
Or does the US always request the required warrants from the local courts before they go about their business?
As a citizen under the star circled banner, I'm not crazy about the idea of being monitored by your loonie government only because unwarranted wiretaps happen legal in your country.
If you look at every other Youtube clone site that claims to be uncensored, they all have a small but faithful psycho/pedo/wierdo/crying-bald-eagle89 user base, which means no sane human being will ever go there twice.
But the wireless internet is tubeless, like a river or an ocean. If we don't stop it now, our poor children will all be washed away in a monstrous tsunami of goatse!
Next thing we'll see a linux distro that supports the new Human BrainTM architecture, I'm guessing it will be a even bigger pain than usual to make the video drivers work with this one.
The SNES turning yellow was a huge technological leap for Nintendo. My old NES just decomposed - I kept it in the attic for a couple of years, but the day i went up there to get it, there was nothing nothing left but a pile of dirt. The only thing unaffected by the decay was the golden finish on my Zelda 2 cartridge.
I'm told that the wii has nuclear decay, now that's progress.
It's a tough choice, I don't think one of the two alternatives is better than the other.
In theory, that is.
In a perfect society both alternatives would work just fine, in the real world however, none of them do. As I'm sure many of you Americans have noticed over the last few years, to let your government decide the truth is not a very good idea. But if you let the (unrestrained) free market decide, you will eventually end up with an increasingly narrow perspective of the truth, since truth hurts and that's bad for business. Most people don't want to be bothered with the complex details of a story. The ones who screamed "F*ck yeah! We'll turn Iraq into a parking lot, and make those bastards pay for 9/11!" back in 2003 probably did so because they had been sold a product, advertised like any other with boobs, beer and explosions.

They also had unproportionally long legs for their body size. Ever see a midget with long legs? Except for Arnold Schwarzenegger that is.

1. The FCC's definition of fairness.
2. The free market's definition of fairness.
