I have kobo books and mobipoket installed on my Blackberry Torch and the convenience is amazing. If I'm waiting in line at the post office I can read a few pages of any number of books. I always have my phone but would never carry a seperate ebook reader or paper copy. I don't have the same aversion to a glowing screen as some people have. After all most of us stare at a computer screen all day and don't complain about it.
However, ebooks are still WAY overpriced. As much as the convenience is higher for the ebooks, there are some serious disadvantages to most of them. DRM, lack of portability, inability to share etc. If the price would come down on ebooks I would buy a lot more of them. As it stands now I feel dirty paying the same amount for the ebook as I could for the paper copy and as a result I've only actually paid for two ebooks.
I'm in Canada and in all my years of school I never had a snow day. Their policy was that they had to keep the school open in case any kids showed up so they didn't get locked outside and freeze to death. Of course, if we had snow days the school would have been closed a lot. So everyone else can suck it up and go to school.
I'm no expert but all of the things you guys are talking about happen with real currency. The only reason a dollar bill has value is because everyone has agreed that it has value. If there was a zombiepocalypse tomorrow cash currency would become worthless next to things like shotguns or flamethrowers. Furthermore, currency's value IS adjusted to suit some agenda via the government set interest rates.
One place the tablet is useful is for people that already can't type. For them it doesn't matter that the keyboard sucks, because they only ever use 2 fingers anyway.
Facebook is starting to become a 'chokepoint for internet freedom' as well. What ever happened to just putting the information about your product on the internet? Now a lot of companies are putting their stuff on facebook.com/stupidproduct, and often times you can't get to the page unless you log into facebook. I don't have a facebook account so it cuts me off from seeing it.
I doubt it will happen but it would suck if in the future you'd have to first log into facebook or it's future equivalent to access the new closed off version of the internet.
My idea is to remove the airbag and seatbelts from the drivers side of the car and place a sharp metal spike pointing at the heart of the driver. That way they will stop driving so recklessly. Or maybe that's a bad idea...
Divide the 6.5 billion amongst all of the problems you list and you'll see how insignificant it is. That's like saying you should not buy that big screen TV because there are people in the world that are starving to death right now. Sure, it may be true that there are people starving to death, but not buying that big screen tv is not going to save them. It is a bigger issue.
Well my macbook pro running Windows 7 with a Core 2 Duo 2.17ghz with 3 gigs of ram and a Radeon x1600 has a hard time on anything but a short draw distance.
My HTPC which is also Win7 but has 3 gigs of ram, AMD 64 x2 4200+ and a Radeon HD 5700 has no problems maxed out.

Casinos make money when you gamble.
Fixed.

True, I lived within walking distance; didn't have to take a bus. I'm from Edmonton.

Not telling is not lying.
Pretty sure I still have some beenz somewhere too...
What if you're at the top of the bottom 99%? Might be awkward showing up at your neighbors house with a pitchfork!
Well all you need to do is write a program that siphons off the half cents from each transaction and deposits that amount in a foreign bank account...

This is what I would use for sure.

It also fits perfectly convincingly into a network jack port.
I do this too. Then they don't get to use their expensive waste of money.

That's funny, I thought fear response was controlled by Fox News.
You are....strange.

Didn't Nasa teach us anything? 5000 mile and 1000 meter? Pick a unit and stick with it!
I have shaw extreme in Edmonton Alberta and don't have any of the problems you describe. But also my download speed is about 1800kb/s (15 megabit).

Yeah, you do need a massive computer to be able to turn the draw distance up at all.
Just hope a creeper doesn't come and blow up your 386, then who knows where you'll end up!
