The keys are stored in protected memory. This memory is not accessable under normal conditions, as the gatekeeper chip disallows access to this. When the Wii is used in GC mode, this chip is disabled, but so is addressing to the upper regions of memory, so you still can't address it properly. BUT if you use a small peice of metal and join some of the address bus lines, in order to address higher addresses, these keys can be recovered.

    Watch the video, very interesting.

I think that what you are experencing is directly related to your torrent traffic. Both byself, and a buddy of mine, who are avid downloaders, have this same issue. I am 99.9% sure that the issue with slugish performance is no fault of Shaw's.

There are some things that you may be able to do to improve your performance while downloading torrents.

    1. Download at night, when you are not using the connection actively
    2. Make sure that your router has the latest firmware version
    3. If you router supports QoS, configure it so that your BT has low QoS and your important apps have high (VoIP, Games, ETC)
    4. Limit the max upload speed to something smaller then your theroetical max for your connection. (A good setting for a 1Mbps upload with shaw is 110K when internet is not being used for anything else, and 35-65K when it is).

Whith the above config, my internet runs smoothly while downloading, VoIP has good quality, and games have little latency. As a side note, my buddy has a linksys 4 port wireless router/AP (WRT54G?) which seems to need resetting quite often with bittorrent. My router (4 port linksys with no wireless and VPN tunnel capibility, works better. I haven't rebooted the router since configruing it 1 year ago, after the previous router blew a cap.

As a further aside, I've transcoded a few ephemeral TV shows recorded the night previously on my Myth box via a custom job so as to be able to watch them on the way into work. That's quite handy, and means I don't have to spend 30 minutes of my at-home time watching it.

I find it more handy to just download the program from the torrent sites the next day. It's likely better quality, commercial free, and required no transcoding. Hell, it's faster to download a movie than it is to transcode it. Azureus will even allow you to use RSS feeds to download content so that it's waiting for you on your desktop the morning after the show airs.

The content industries need to realize that they are competing with "Free and illigal". Free is very attractive, especially when the free version is better than the non-free version, due to it's lack of restrictions. I think that the content industry needs to make thier content more accessable and cheaper. Movies should be $1.00 (maybe 2.00 for new releases) to buy. Here's my idea:
Have a video vending machine that will allow you to select a number of movies and after you pay for them, it will transfer them to your USB drive, which you can take home and play on your computer, or on your Xbox360, PS3, Modded xbox, Apple TV, whatever. The low cost will allow people to buy more movies then they did before, and having people provide thier own media, keeps the costs down, and profits up. The money that get's lost by the lower price tag, would be recovered by higher sales (because of the lower cost) and the higher profit margin (100% - cost of electricity to run the kiosk).
