  1. Ugh on Can IP Masquerading Handle L2TP Connections? · · Score: 1

Ok, I'm going to make a correction.

Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol, is basicly a revamped version of pptp w/o microsoft extentions by Cisco.

It it NOT IPSec. Nor is it tipiclly used with IPSec. It is one of the two options to create a tunnel between two windows boxes talking using IPSec in Windows 2000.

The ip_masq_pptp patch (witch I beleave is intergrated into the kernel now) basiclly allows for the masquerading of GRE tunnel traffic.

FreeS/WAN will not help you with this, unless you can convince the admins to let you connect using pptp w/o MS encryption and Authenication, Hidden inside IPSec encryption. Beleave it or not, I'm setting it up now so some remote offices of the company I work for can just power up pgpnet ( a free windows ipsec implementation) and then just create a pptp tunnel.

Hope this clears up a few things.

Voicemail is another story, we dont really change somebody's voicemail password till somebody moves into that cubical. Now, with other Offices, Its another story. Most local dialup isps will charge you at most an additional 5 bucks a month. But still, Think about the intial price for an isp to start up with ipv6.

BTW, i never said it was piracy, its just tooo high of an inital price for most isps. Arin is just trying to get as much money as possible while they think people will still pay them a little bit. They are greedy. Just remember how many ipv6 addys are theoreticly avilable.

I guess its possible to be done in the kenrel with a driver. But I personally think it would be better if it was done in userspace with a tool. Kinda like winzip. Still, maybe you could write a driver for the kernel that a userspace app could plug into to access files in a compressed archive.

I'm sure if its thought out and done right, it could be done read only, but read write access probily would be harder to do. I bet there are some restrictions on archive file structure. That could be gotten around by just rewriting the file All together.

It wouldn/t be too hard to do, some cron jobs for every 2-3 minutes and shell scripts could do it with no problems.

    BTW:
perhaps multiple scsi busses for more hard drives... and have the IP-Over-SCSI go up and make sure that when a server goes back, that its all ok, and that its not needed immeaditly.

Also, A File system such as EXT3 would be best for the hard drives... perhaps Raid5 between multiple 50 gig SCSI drives.
