So what do we do? Threaten to sue. Threaten a boycott. Good work guys, TV companies really don't have the right to put out the shows they want.

You know there was this article a few days back about the show "The West Wing" and the producer or whatever was so happy that they got blacks and other minorities in some parts(at the last minute because of NAACP pressure).

It was hysterical, the guy was like "You don't see any blacks yet, but guess what? You haven't met the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and you haven't met the National Security Adviser, and you haven't met etc. etc. Guess what? They're almost all minorities!"

I was like, too bad for those white men who had the jobs for those roles before the NAACP came in. It's too bad that they had to be fired, but I guess they deserved it since they're white and male.

... and I'm a member of the white middle-class and really have nothing in my ethnicity that would make me the topic of insults.

    It just pisses me off.

It's like last year I had a class and the teacher was asking what everyone was(e.g. German, Irish, Italian, etc.). I guess I have some French, German, etc. I haven't ever really cared.

I doubt in France they ask you if you're English or German if your ancestors have lived in the country for 200 years.

Do Americans have a problem just being Americans? I can understand people who grew up in another country, or whose parents did saying they're Swedish American or whatever. But if you have ancestors that have fought in the civil war, I think you've been here long enough. You are American, like it or not.

And I agree with the other poster that not all blacks come from Africa, and if you come from Jamaica you probably wouldn't like being called African American. And if you are a white from South Africa, you wouldn't be called African American.

So basically it's just YA way of describing someone who's skin is a dark brown to black color. So why not just say black? And I really wish whoever the hell chooses these things(probably our friends at the NAACP) would settle on one.

I mean, what was so bad with "Negro"? Now it sounds like some dirty word, but AFAIK it just means black in some other language(I know it does in Spanish). MLK called blacks Negros in his speeches. But no, now it's demeaning.

But now no one will ever be able to use that word again. So why don't they just find one they like and say this is the pc term now, and keep it.

If it has an LCD screen(which actually is vey possible, Apple didn't spend $100 million of Samsung for nothing), then is it still going to be an AIO(all-in-one?).

I know a lot of the people they market the iMac to like the fact that there are very few wires. But most AIOs w/ LCD screens look ugly(e.g. Monorail), though there are nice ones(e.g. 20th anniversary Mac).

    Other features:
    Airport is almost definite.
    FireWire is almost definite.
    DVD is very likely.
    New colors are a must.

Other things: it should have an AGP slot. It doesn't need PCI, but just an AGP slot would be very nice so the iMac users can upgrade to a better video card(I feel sad for those poor iMac users stuck with a Rage Pro, I hope they all get the Voodoo2 upgrade).

Another rumor is that iMacs will have 350MHz G4s. That would be sweet, but unlikely IMHO.

I also hope iMac II has:

But when I look around at the presidential scene, I don't really see even 1 canidate from the major parties that I like. Anyone else have Democrat or Republican they like, or a canidate from another party?

The only ideas I've seen from what I get fed by the mainstream press that interest me at all are those of the reform party. Jesse Ventura has been on TV a bunch of times basically saying that the government should stay out of social issues. That is a big "+" in my book. Of course, the guy also sounds pretty unintelligent(maybe he's not good on TV).

  20. And another thing... on 'Citizenship' not Censorship · · Score: 2

The article is right where it talks about how subjective the ratings are. I think that at least the MPAA has been good about taking each one case by case.

For instance, "Saving Private Ryan", and IIRC Shindler's List also, would probably have been rated NC-17 if they were different movies(in terms of what they were depicting). However, Saving Private Ryan was not showing violence for the sake of violence, it was realistic. Same with th nudity in Schindler's List.

Because of that, the MPAA gave Spielberg a break, and put on R ratings(it was also because the films could be viewed as educational, and an NC-17 would've made sure no kids could see the movies).

What it comes down to is that Blue G3 owners(like me) are extremely mad. We have been hearing daily about the amazing things some developers are going to be doing w/ the G4 and AltiVec and we want in.

Apple got a lot of the early buyers(like me) to install a ROM update that was advertised as improving PCI performance(and probably did) that disabled G4 support. Apple did not tell us this and still has not admitted it.

Many Blue G3 owners have already said they will never buy a Mac again, others are looking at legal alternatives(class action suit because Apple removed a feature that was in our machines when we bought them w/o our knowledge).

Basically, Apple is in deep shit. If they don't know it by now, they've gotta be brain dead.

Apple had better put out an explanation and a fix real fast.

The G4 sawtooth machines can actually take 2GB of RAM, but the MacOS can only handle up to 1.5GB, so they list the max as 1.5gig. But if you put LinuxPPC on there, you could probably go to the full 2 gigs. Woohoo.

MacOS X better support more than 1.5GB, because soon everyone will need more to run Unreal 3 or whatever.
