  1. Layman's interpretation on Blizzard Seeks to Block User Rights, Privacy · · Score: 1
Let's look at this from a layman's perspective. Say, hypothetically, you have a camera pointed at the monitor that used image recognition software to control a robotic hand gripped around a joystick. Well, this is obviously not copyright infringement because the game software is being used as it was intended to be used. The only possible argument you could make is that the game isn't actually being played by the account holder, which isn't against the EULA either, and again isn't copyright infringement.

Isn't this comparable to a software which "looks" at the data in memory, does not change or modify it, and issues commands to the game in the same way you use your keyboard to do the same?

I really don't see how this case could possible hold water as a copyright infringement case, besides getting a smooth talking lawyer to confuse and dazzle a judge into making uneducated decisions. But from my perspective, it's a much simpler debate.

I understand Blizzard wanting to keep the game fair and balanced, but I'm afraid they're just going to have to put in the effort to make that buck instead of falling back on the legal system in this one.

On his website he claims the subject of a photograph should have copyright of it, that using the image should require written consent, and that abusers should pay $50-1,500 in fines.

Suppose you put an online family photo album up. You would never dream of asking your family for written consent, in fact that would sound insulting. Then your cousin gets pissed at you and decides to sue so that you get fined.

This guy's a frigging genius. With laws like this, you might as well use that new digital camera as a bookend.

  3. Possible Government Consipiracy? on Scientists Threatened For "Climate Denial" · · Score: 1
While it cannot be argued against whatsoever that fossil fuels are detrimental to the environment, and that finding clean energy alternatives can do nothing but benefit us, this argument is also irrelevant to the question being asked.

The question is whether or not global warming is a man made phenomena? And indeed it's true that this question is emotionally and politically charged. Whenever this question is asked though, I hear very few relevant responses. Indeed, it's as if this has become a religious debate, with the only answers being the same circular type that we're used to hearing in nearly all religious debates.

Look, I'm with you guys, lets clean up the environment. Lets rid our oil dependency. But what if global warming actually is a natural phenomena?

I hear the typical argument "better safe than sorry". Well, if global warming is indeed being caused by the sun, which also seems to be warming Mars, then where will your argument get us if we focus our resources on energy only to find out that there's nothing we can do about it? The question must be answered before it can be solved!

If this is a natural, irreversible phenomena, then we're all screwed unless we figure out ways to protect ourselves from a potential extinction level event. And laughing at the skeptics while we focus narrow mindedly on prevention might just get me and my two children killed in the long run. And for what? To prove you're right? C'mon, this is science for crying out loud, we're never right, and that's kind of the point! You can't sweep the questions under the rug and call it science!

And here's a long shot for everyone who believes our government can do no evil... If you knew the world was doomed, would it benefit you to tell the people? Think riots, mass hysteria, war, etc. Would it not be better to save as many people as you can, while still keeping things quiet? And do you think the people would accept the notion that you're using OUR resources to save, well of course, your own ass, family, and friends? You simply couldn't tell everyone that global warming is irreversible, instead you would need a smoke screen. A smoke screen that hides your intentions, while giving people a sense of hope at the same time would be ideal. And c'mon, public lotteries to determine who lives is for the movies!

Indeed, this is a horrible thought, and you may think yourself better than to resort to this type of plan, but do you really think your neighbor, guy down the street, or public officials would give a rat's ass about you if it meant saving their own necks? Sadly, this is a plan that I myself might think of if it meant my own survival. If you think there's any, possible, even somewhat slim chance that something like this might be going on, then It might cause you to question the true motives behind the miles and miles of underground government top secret compounds that exist in almost every state in this country. If you don't think they're hiding anything, then you might instead question what they're hiding from?

And one final tidbit to chew on... Obviously the government wants to protect it's own ass, so if they're really so worried about preventing global warming, then why are they spending so little on science and energy? And what are they spending the rest of that federal money on? http://www.truemajority.org/csba/priorities.php

Please, I know it's not normally allowed, but please mod the parent up to a 6. It gave me chills reading that last little tidbit of information.

Not enough consideration is given towards the younger community in the respect that they will be the future voters who allow these treasons to go unchecked. It is simply a fact of reality that 85%, or likely far more, of this population has never even read the constitution and does not know the rights and limitations it affords. When the word "constitution" is uttered, it is a fact that most of these future voters are only aware and concerned with the Bill of Rights. If We the People are to truly ensure this country's future, as our enlightened fore fathers intended, we MUST bring these issues into the spotlight.

Our government, as much as we'd like not to believe it, is a separate entity from the people it was formed to protect. We, on the other hand, are the working class, the backbone of society, and it is up to us to stand up and guarantee the government hears our voice in order to protect our children's futures. This might sound like a mindless rant, but I ensure you this issue is as serious as a heart attack. And if it's not truly understood, then our country will assuredly be sleep walking into a police state. This simple concept I've imparted either will or will not be our children's future, our choice (no, your choice).

Colbert! If you're listening! Cover this issue thoroughly. We know you care about these issues. And according to statistics, there is definite merit is stating that you are the voice of our future, both literally and figuratively. Young minds need to know. Don't let us down.

And while you're at it, mod ganjadude's reply up to 5. Not everyone agrees on the topic of marijuana, but I think he nailed it from a legal standpoint.
