Seriously though, SuSE 7.0's release wasn't ever posted on /. I did some checking and some of the SuSE pages went up the 7th, yet no mention anywhere on /. Why? Why does it seem like the majority of "release stories" I see are Red Hat and Debian? I have no beef with Red Hat, SuSE was just what my friends used and introduced me to. But I think things like Braille support are pretty cool and worth mentioning (and knowing about). USB is important too, no doubt, but every distro will have USB support. Braille? Now that's cool. I'm willing to pay a little more to help the little guys out, but when I get 37% off at Bookpool, minus shipping comes to 25% off, its still really hard for me to justify buying at Softpro. Because he has somebody to call and bitch to when something's broke. If anything, I'm sick of valid arguments being moderated DOWN because they are pro MS. I feel that I have to disagree with the reviewer on this point. I LOVE this book and bought the first edition earlier this year before it was announced that the 2nd edition was coming out. I found even that one, though outdated, extremely useful for setting up my home LAN (only my main machine and my gateway/firewall).

The HOW-TOs were useful as well, but without a notebook computer, HOW-TOs don't really travel on a plane well. I do feel that some of the stuff in the book is irrelevant (setting up dial up services) but that it ONLY because it doesn't apply to me setting up my DSL/Cable modem LAN at home. I'm sure it would be very useful to somebody else.

One thing I was disappointed in was the lack of coverage of DHCP. Having recently moved to a new apartment and switching from static IP-DSL to DHCP-cable modem, this book wasn't all that helpful getting me hooked up to the Net. It helped in getting my internal LAN up, but New Riders Linux Firewalls is much better for dealing with DHCP. My $.02.

Bottom Line: A few MINOR flaws, but anyone that uses two or more Linux machines should have this book.
