Its possibly is market hype, Space on silicon is extremely costly, by doing somthing like pipelining and parallelism they would be wasting precious silicon real estate, I think that the Cell processor (an no I am not an IBM fanboi), is closer to what you should expect from even the GPU's of tomorrow, and personally, I think (hope, even though I am a VLSI designer) that silicon would be obsolete in a couple of decades or so.
For Gawd's sakes please there is nothing wiereder than hearing self proclaimed "nerds, geeks", call diamond a metal dude its made of carbon, a NON METAL and thus cannot be a metal please. I know this might be redundant but then constant repetition is required to get the point accross it seems.
I wonder if it would be possible to change it so that it harnesses motion of the molecules/atoms themselves for generating power. That would be a much truer approximation of zero point energy than what current research into it leads to wouldnt it ?
In Cosmos, Carl Sagan has described such beings(hypothetical beings - if you want to nitpick), consider them to be similar to large gas bags, that feed on carbon matter in the atmosphere. If you consider it that flying whales post might actually describe them pretty well
also - Such creatures were used by Arthur C. Clarke in one of his oddesy series books (forget which one), he even described a predator of sorts for them, interestingly for another descrpition (although not at all based on science or facts ) there is a similar set of creatures in Dan Dare (Yes, the same Dan Dare where venusians were large green things, and you could breathe on Venus)
Well here in India we have viva's not only for papers (which resemble the spanish inquisition) but also for the labs that we perform, have been having it since the 10th grade for our lab work.

ermm.. dont mean to flamebait or anything but mathematics started out as nothing more than a tool using which you can understand the physical world better, of course over the years it has grown to be a subject in its own right but at the moment unfortunately it doesnt have any greater importance to the mainstream public than as a plot device in Numb3r's (I think some one already made a joke on that). Mathematics (the number theory kind) unfortunately is very abstract at levels and doesnt SEEM to produce any physical result for the public to find it all glamorous (unlike say --- ??? nuclear fusion research ? )
