  1. Re:I'm sick of this attitude. on CDDB Shutting Down Media Jukebox · · Score: 1

If I enter 1 CD or 1000, it makes no difference: the fact that cddb accepts info from their users means it should made freely available. If they want to take the time to enter the data in themselves and then charge for it, fine. But don't you dare take the data I freely gave and slap your "license" on it. Your arguement rests on the thinking that 1 or 2 contributions are inconsequential. Thats pure BS. Lets assume for a second that I only enter in 2 CDs....but then 3000 people do the same thing. Thats 6000 CDs they didn't have to do!!

My biggest gripe is that when cddb first started going, I thought it was a "no-strings attached" database...now I reget ever adding my CDs to them. To cddb: STOP being so greedy.

Why not let the readers decide that a story is "lame."

The readers are free to decided if it is lame or not NO MATTER WHAT TACO SAYS. So what if he puts his two cents in, you have a brain and should be able to reach your own conclusions. The author has every right to add their comments...they already have shown bias by choosing that story over other ones, a little comment on it doesnt hurt me any.

And I will not "relax", thank you very much, because I HAVE HAD IT with people whining about Slashdot "reporting bias" That's the format, you should be used it by now. *sigh*, I already explained this in the first post, can't you see it?

So Taco posting his opinion renders you unable to formulate your own opinion?? Give me a break. Judging by your User #, you've been here a while and I would have thought you'd have figured it out. Slashdot, BY DEFINITION, is editoral. Authors post stories and sometime add their two cents to it. SO WHAT?? It's his web page and he's free to add whatever. But here's the beauty of it -- you are free to think for yourself and post your own comments. Nice, huh? This is not the NYT where "unbiased" reporting is the first commandment. This is Slashdot where there are no breaking stories being reported. It's 100% pure opinions on other places doing the reporting.

My point is that as it stands right now everyone gets paid, but I would like to see the artists have the *choice* to not go with a major label and still be able to distribute their music effectively. Having that alternative could be the motivitation for the music industry to reform and be less evil.

  16. Sorry, but you don't have a clue. on Napster Aftermath: Fan Vs. Corporate Rights · · Score: 2

Have you ever been involved in the making of a CD? Doesn't seem like it. Lets assume there is an unsigned band called Kepano Green. They have 12 songs they want to record, so they head over to a recording studio. Guess what? They have to pay the studio *before* they sell any CDs. So all those "other workers" have already been paid. Janitors, security guards? What are you talking about?? They are paid already, too (and what kind of place has "security" unless it's some big shot label?) And they pay up front for the 5000 CDs they have made. They go to local record stores/bookstores and try to work out a distribution deal. The record label comes in and says "Ohh, let us take care of all those expenses for you". But in the end, it's a deal with the devil because they milk you dry for all youre worth. No, I would rather my money go directly to the artist and let THEM decide how to use it, than have the RIAA leech and suck the musician dry.

Do you understand what Public Domain is?...You cannot alter that content and republish it under the author's name, unless the orrignal is so well known and the alterations so severe that the entire thing is clearly satire.

I'm afraid you aren't making the point you think you are. Letters to the editor can be edited without your permission. I will take an example from one of my favorite magazines, MaximumPC:

Editorial policy: MaximumPC invites letters to the editor. Just send them to commport@maximumpc.com. Please include your full name, home town, and telephone. Letters may be edited for space and clarity. Due to the vast amount of email we receive, we cannot personally respond to each letter

This is just one example, I've seen many other publications say similar things. When you send in a letter, you don't have control over it, sorry.
