  1. what are we looking for? on Delaying Our Visit To The Last Planet · · Score: 1

Well, whenever I go to Pluto, I'm looking for Captain Fwiffo's crashed Spathi ship. Usually it shoots my lander, but then I can get him to join my Precursor ship and become part of my fleet. Then I can hunt down the Ur-Quan and free the Earth from the Heirarchy!

You got through the text adventure HHGttG without any hints?

    That's amazing. I congratulate you. :)

  3. coleridge on English Researchers Find Extra-Terrestrial Water · · Score: 1
Sorry to nitpick, but my English teacher drilled this into us. The quote from Rime of the Ancient Mariner is :
    Water, water, everywhere,
    nor any drop to drink
... not "but not a drop to drink" as the "dept" thing says.

  4. Calvin and Hobbes on No Logo: Taking Aim At The Brand Bullies · · Score: 2
There was a C&H comic that talked about this.. I don't remember it exactly, but Calvin said "Look, I'm so wrapped up in what I buy that I pay the company to advertise its products!" and then he said "Endorsing products is the American way to express individuality."

I wish I could remember the entire thing though, Hobbes made a couple of funny comments.

  5. My two cents on New Ender Sequel · · Score: 2
Ender's Game is, IMO, one of the best SF books ever. Obviously no sequel could live up to that. But I read all the rest of them anyway.

Ender's Shadow is the most like Ender's Game. If you liked Game, then read Shadow. DON'T read Shadow first, as it spoils the whole point of Game. I assume the new one will be a lot like Shadow. I haven't read the chapters on the website yet, but I had heard that this one will still be from Bean's perspective, but will follow Bean "shadowing" Peter, Ender's brother, instead of Bean shadowing Ender.

As for the rest, well, Speaker for the Dead was pretty good. Nothing at all like Ender's Game, so if you're expecting more like that, don't get it. Xenocide and Children of the Mind were a lot like Speaker, only not as good. If you liked Speaker a lot, go ahead and read them, but otherwise just stop there.

  6. Ask Skippy on Quickies 2:Electric Bugaloo · · Score: 1

If you go back from the optical illusion page, the main "page of niftyness" has a section called "Ask Skippy"... it's one of the funniest things I've ever read.

A bit of advice: "Remind people who make a big deal about proper grammar and punctuation that, while e e cummings is famous, they're not."
