Just as long as they improve the music, oh please let them improve the music. Even as a kid the english version concert episodes made me want to clap my hands to my ears and roll on the floor in agony.
Sure early Alzheimer's must be a bit frustrating for the sufferer, but this is tempered by a loss of cognitive function (ie. you don't necessarily realise that you have the condition).
That is not true! They do know what is happening to them and it's horrific to feel your mind slip away. It's even worse for people who's pride and self image is based on their sharp intelligence. My grandfather yearned for death long before his body weakened too.
It's also not entirely a result of keeping people alive longer. Every single male in my direct paternal line has suffered from Alzheimer's for at least three generations back. (granted they all lived well into their 70's)
I sincerely hope that this breakthrough works out and makes it into human medication within the next ten years. I don't want my father to ever look at me with trapped eyes and ask for death.
The laptop was not equipped with an encryption card. The poor guy's password-generator card for checking his work email was with the laptop and was also stolen. It's the same sort of card used by business everywhere, and is only export controlled because the US government has really really strange rules about encryption.
This is just another example of sensationalist news reporting by 'journalists' who can't be bothered to do research beyond a bit of googling!!
You're all paranoid. "Government documents of a sensitive nature" could just have easily been:
a) the guy's own non-classified research
b) His address book with the phone numbers of his Lab buddies
c) Something with his social security number on it
All those things qualify as a government document of a sensitive nature, plus they're a heck of alot more likely than Iraqi convoy information.
Let's not forget the Spaceport! If you're looking for the best presidential candidate for geeks, you've just got to go with the guy who is trying to turn his state into the center for commercial space flight!
On a more serious note he's created a lot of high tech jobs as Governor of NM. He has also funded stem cell research and jointly funded a SuperComputer with Intel.
So, out of all the people actually running for president, Bill Richardson has the best geek creds.:)
Is it possible that they just don't realize that they're asking you to do something that is illegal and could have some nasty repercussions? They may see it as not a big deal and don't understand why you're putting up such a fuss. Unless they're techies, It probably never occurred to them that they could get into actual legal trouble. We all know that a single Microsoft office license gets passed around in a family like a incestuous std!
Assuming they realize that this is a real 'go to court' illegal act could result in some miscommunication. I'd include in the email something about how copying office and using it without the proper license could result in an investigation, having to appear in court, and fines. Or something like that.
CC'ing it to the legal department would be helpful but could come off as overly combative. Hmmm, maybe you could poke your head into legal and ask them to politely explain that this is a rotten idea?
