    Do you have money? Power? That matters. And as long as the powers to be want software patents, that's what you'll have, the way it is right now.

    Is this going to be cheaper than SSD? The price point for solid state finally reached where platter drives were about ten years ago (a dollar or less a gig) and I installed one on my system just last week as my OS drive. Also, are these going to be significantly faster than the standard five platter density drives? Frankly, weight only matters in tablets, phones, and laptops. I'm not aware of any crushing weight problems in the steel server racks...

    Amazon.com doesn't ship 99.999% of the items (and amazon.de and amazon.co.uk don't ship 70% of the items) to Finland, a bona fide EU member. I imagine Amazon gives even less of a shit about some Asian country.

    Welp, that was easy enough to debunk.

    So, let's see: your LeapPad2 costs $100, does not have access to a vast array of applications (it is walled in a very tiny garden), has a 5" screen and to top it all off, it doesn't come with rechargeable batteries.

    And you wonder "why this one (the Tabeo) is interesting"? Compared to that LeapPad, even a turd with a touchscreen would be interesting.

    This whole Android vs. Apple situation reminds me of the beginning of the (Intel) PC vs. Apple Macs. MS DOS was ubiquitous, any manufacturer could use it, and so was Windows 3.1. Sure, they were uglish, but anyone who was ready to pay Microsoft, was free to load them on their PCs, be it workstations or laptops. And while Macs had an early advantage, they pretty soon became a niche player.

    It seems like Android is becoming as ubiquitous as DOS+Windows were back in the early to mid 90's.

    This is explained in the article. Each rocket launch is considered a "mission". Each satellite placed in orbit is considered a "mission". So if a rocket is launched with two satellites on board, that counts as three "missions".

    Maybe this mission counting system was devised by some ex-Arthur Andersen accountants.

    Or maybe some of the people who worked at my previous employer, brought back with them the awesome ideas about software metrics we used :/

    That's strange; I thought it was Timothy Ray Brown the only man to be officially declared cured from AIDS. Apparently, he was cured 3 years ago as a result of a bone marrow transplant (to cure leukemia) from a donor with a rare genetic mutation that makes him/her immune to HIV. Brown was declared cured last July.

    "Global warming" as the term is generally used is not science. It's a political program. It's true that measured temperatures are higher than the last hundred years or so. That's a fact. But the "why it's happening" is not science, it's conjecture (I deliberately don't use the word theory, because I respect theory).

    In other words, you disrespect 97% of the scientists - that's the proportion of those who consider man-made CO2 emissions as the most likely cause (or strongest forcing mechanism) for global warming. Since you hold such an extraordinary position, I would be very interested to read the scientific basis of it.

    The fact is most of the things Icaza complained about were things where he had a say or actually caused them but did not do anything at the time and now he starts harping on how Linus is responsible for the behavior he had for things he himself created. For example his complaint about different desktops. Had he never founded GNOME then KDE would probably be the dominant desktop. He caused the split. If his only issue was the Qt license he could have started his own implementation of Qt rather than making a whole new desktop based on GTK+. The API incompatibilities in GNOME could have been mitigated. Even GTK+ at least had a stable API since 2.0 was released so I don't get why the GNOME folks need to be constantly breaking compatibility for their bits.

    Then when things had settled with KDE and GNOME he started pushing C# as a development language. Thankfully most people ignored him and his pro-Microsoft agenda.

    Quoted for truth. This piece of history should be remembered, or else it will be repeated.

    Actually Samsung and LG do very little (almost none) of their manufacturing in Korea. It's too expensive. The majority of their mass productions lines are in China and eastern Europe (for the euro market)

    Actually, that's just a fancy soundbite but it's not true: the majority of Samsung's production is done in South Korea. They'll open a few more plants in PRC next year, and are about to open a large facility in Texas, but even then, most of the production will be in Korea.

    Maybe you should visit Samsung's production facilities in Korea - pretty breathtaking.
