There is nothing as simple and robust on Linux, and OpenGL is garbage compared to XNA + D3D (the D3D is hidden by the XNA layer).
That might be so, but if you ever want to get more sales you wouldn't write your game in XNA because it makes it impossible to port over to anything non-microsoft related. Even Mono has been abandoned on linux making C# microsoft only language. Writing your game in C++ and openGL you can possibly get away at porting it to xbox, windows, osx, linux, PS3, Wii, android (via NDK), iOS and i'm sure there are more.
If you look at portable game engines that already exist such as the open source MIT licensed OGRE 3D engine it completely abstracts away direct calls to openGL and D3D allowing you to be extremely portable. You can choose at run time if you wish to use openGL or D3D or you can force it in code to pick one. You can even implement your own renderer if support isn't there for it already in one of it's render plugins.
My point with this is, you don't have to implement your own 3D engine and complain that openGL is hard. Others have already done the hard work for you, all you need to do is stand on their shoulders and make some cool games which give you the freedom to port to other platforms if you so desire.
I think you're getting confused here. Bethesda Game Studios that makes Fallout and Oblivion isn't Bethesda Softworks that bought Id software.
Bethesda Softworks is a game publisher. Bethesda Game Studios is a game studio. Both are separate companies that share a similar name, so although Bethesda Softworks may license their technology out to Bethesda Game Studios they didn't purchase Id software to give to Bethesda Game Studios it's technology.
For example, you cannot change location in Nautilus without using magic keyboard shortcut such as Ctrl + L. But you can see location just fine, just you can't change it.
You can, but you need to enable the "location" something or other in the gconf. Once you tick the right box in that you get the ability to type in the location back.
It's an attempt to create FUD to stop people using it. Microsoft did the same thing to linux years back with it's "256 patents in linux" announcements which eventually melted down to 13 patents that they refused to tell anyone which ones exactly.
It's because as a consumer it's a safe bet. You enjoyed game Y 3, so you know game Y 4 will be good too. As a consumer you have never played game X so you have no idea if you're going to like it or not. There is a risk in departing with your cash.
their gaming experience is still where it was 15 years ago
You've obviously not seen anything about their latest game rage to make a comment like that. Also you're missing the point. Carmack is saying you don't always need to innovate, seeming as they're still in business doing the same gaming experience you seem to have proven his point.
Doom 3 is not their most recent game from ID, it's not even their latest FPS game. There have been many many titles since Doom 3 was released in 2004. Quake 4, Enemy Territory and 'Orcs and Elves' come to mind straight away.
I think it still makes sense for applications, for example incompatible save files, client / server communication, etc. There's still some stuff out there that makes it valid for application use.
The wikipedia page you linked to not only says that conception rates are lower then previous years it also says that abortion rates are higher. I fail to see the problem there apart from the fact that the poor are uneducated (who'd guessed!).
You realise companies such as intel re-write software all the time in linux to work around patents right? In fact linux is probably better protected then HURD ever will be because if anyone sues over patent usage in linux everyone involved would come down on that company. I only know this because Eben Moglen the FSF's lawyer talked about it in some video.
So what happens if someone sues over patent usage in HURD? No one uses it, no one would care apart from the developers.
Please stop damaging the reputation and continuing the stereotype that linux users care if they have proprietary software on their systems. I don't go around telling everyone what you do or don't think, have the same courtesy for myself and others like me.
Extremely poor example. Israeli airport security has no full body scanners or full pat downs. In fact i'm sure the head guy there said that the way america does airport security is all wrong.
Non-American here. I've never been patted down at airports (outside the US) and I've internationally flown to more then 10 locations in the last 4 years, so no I wouldn't be expecting that. With that said, I never visit the US because of this reason, too stressful, not worth it.
They're all wealthy. There's not a single person running in the election that isn't rich.
The supporters are rural and poor however the Shinawatra family that represents them in the election were born with a silver spoon in their mouth. They own billions including one of the largest telecommunication companies (AIS). To pretend that they have no means of providing a proper election campaign is ridiculous to say the least.
They've already won the election with a huge campaign which cost millions, it's up to them now to see if they're actually going to bother doing anything for those rural poor supporters or if it's yet another power struggle between billionaires. This will be the third member of the Shinawatra family to become prime minister in Thailand.

Consensus is that sitting on a couch with friends to play a video game is still possible with a PC and that it's a lame excuse to use.
FTFY

Maybe he didn't like the fact that any bug report against gnome 2 would be replied with "it's deprecated, try gnome 3 instead".
At the time Microsoft where trying to sell patent license agreements.

I'd rather see it funded through taxation then have parts of my body owned by companies
Without it TF2 would have died long ago.
Good luck flogging that dead horse. No one is interested in your windows phones.
You need to look up what a GUID is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globally_unique_identifier

Just commercial nuclear fusion power stations to go.

Only in the US. I've never seen this happen in any other airport in the world (hence why I never visit the US anymore).
yeah, I guess that's why it's not be used in movie productions and stuff.. oh wait.. (no i won't google it for you)

Last I heard everyone in SK uses activeX on their websites. You could start by removing that and forcing everyone to upgrade their OS + Browser.
